We sent a message ahead to make sure we could get into to the camping site due to the flooding there. He said no one ever got stuck, obviously he was not up to date on the areas flooding. Upon arrival we were absolutely not going to attempt the Muddy road in to park. I told him we couldn’t get in . The man has continued to razz me. Also he lives in Montana and had no idea about the rain!

Private, serine and great dark sky view. Closest and quickest public camping site I could find near Painted Desert /Petrified Forest National Park. I highly recommend it. 💯

This was just a quick stop over for me on the way across the country, so I was in late and out early.
It was fairly easy to find from the coordinates in maps and not too much noise.

Beautiful scenery and plenty of room for our group. We got two spaces, which was perfect for our vehicles. The only negative feedback is that the markers for each site was not very visible and you couldn't tell one site from the next. We were the only ones there, so we took two at the end and hoped no one else came. Some of the solar lights had been knocked over. Luckily, we got to camp in the daylight so we had no problems finding where to park.

It was dark when we arrived and I was unable to find the spot so we didn’t stay. The next morning coming out of the area we did spot the turn in. I looked like a great spot though!

This site stated that it would accommodate tent camping but it should absolutely not. 1. There is not enough flat ground to place my 2-man tent. The a ground and plants are rough/irregular and there is no gravel pad as stated. Dried cow patties add a sense of rustic country to this pasture . We've completed a lot of privative camping these last 3 weeks including BLM but never seen such rough, undeveloped land as this. 2. Upon arrival & survey of the open pasture land, we Googled wildlife near I-40 in that county & learned there are javelina, black bear, scorpions, skunks and other wildlife in the vicinity. Again, this is totally unsuitable for tent camping much less cooking on my camp stove. Glad we did not have any small pets with us! We ate cold food inside the car instead. 3. The entrance is very rough and bumpy - no gravel to support vehicles climbing in and out. Our AWD car got in and out okay but an RV would get stuck after any rain and by the wheel ruts in the dirt, it appears this occurred previously.

Quiet place to sleep. Beautiful stars at night. No other people there. Solar lights lit the drive to the campsite.
