This secluded meadow has sweeping views, including a stunning shot of Mount Rainier on clear days. Surrounded by forested land including a park preserve, the land is quiet and private. A great place to watch birds, access multiple park trails by foot, or just enjoy being outside in nature. There are old fruit trees on the land that give plentiful fruit (most years) starting in August, and depending on the time of year you'll also find blackberries, huckleberries and salal berries. Additional tent sites are tucked into the trees. Serving all is an outdoor/covered compost toilet tucked into the trees a couple minutes walk from the meadow. There is also a spigot with hose where you can rinse off gear etc. A public swimming hole on Lake Florence is a short drive way, along with beaches. Check back with us in the future as well, because we have big plans for additional amenities.

Set up your tent(s) on the edge of a private mystic meadow encircled by fir trees and a vista of Tahoma/Mt. Rainier. This private meadow has been intact for at least 100 years and includes some seasonal wetland and springs (in winter) and lots of cherished native plants. Look out over sunny fields of grasses, wild roses, nesting birds and grazing deer. A great place to enjoy sunrise or the 'golden hour' at sunset. Miles of public trails accessible on foot. A hip composting toilet onsite is just a minute or two walk from the campsites, along with car parking. The walk does include some slightly hilly terrain and trip hazards. We provide a wagon for carting your gear (upon request) and in some cases you can drive up to drop off your gear and then return car to parking area. Other than bird calls, the area is usually quiet, although every once in awhile a distant neighbor does some target practice. Please note, we do have well water you can use to wash off gear, but because filtration is not complete, we still recommend bringing your potable water. We will be adding more amenities including a camping cabin, filtered water, propane fire pit, shower and outdoor cooking area in the near future so feel free to save our listing and check back for what's coming soon! You can walk to multiple trails from our land, or take a short drive to the lake's public swimming hole. We do not have water access from our land, but we highly recommend the hike to Andy’s marine park for a day at the beach!

Enjoy pretty views of pasture and distant bay with your van parked between some fir trees on the lower portion of our land, near a rustic windmill and 100 year old cabin. Choose from two marked sites: Overlook or Nestledown. Van camping guests will be parked in a separate portion of the land that is not visible from the tent camping meadow. Please note this site is near where guests of our Madrona Meadow camp site will be parking their vehicle(s). So there may be some interaction between campers in the space around the parking area. Van and tent guests also share access to the privately situated compost toilet tucked in the woods up a small hill from the van site. PLEASE NOTE: We cannot accommodate RV's in our van site even though the description category of the site reads Tent/RV. We welcome tent or van here.

Beautiful Property!

We really enjoyed our weekend here. We spent time exploring the site and picking berries, walking on the nearby island trails, and even experienced a thunderstorm! We also found a cute dog park to let our dog run around. Note that some trails/parks did not allow dogs, but we were able to find some that did. The hosts were quick to communicate when we had any questions. Overall a lovely time!

Sara and co. are excellent stewards of this beautiful land. We had a wonderful stay enjoying the quiet beauty of Anderson Island and of the meadow specifically. Can’t wait to come back!

It was great! We had the place all to ourselves and wore the dog out throwing the frisbee. Had a great time sliding and splashing g at the idyllic swimming hole, too (no dogs allowed there, unfortunately) and stargazing at night. Had fun exploring the trails and feasting on fresh-picked blackberries for breakfsat. An excellent adventure, wonderful memories made, just a quick ferry ride from the city. (Arrive quire early for the ferry, they do overload and run infrequently.) Highly recommended this spot, especially if you have a dog who likes to run.

Beautiful campsite with views of Mt. Rainier and a small bay. Outhouse is good. Plenty of space for two cars and a roof tent. Night time noise from I-5, the ferry, and the nearby base aren't too bothersome, though earplugs wouldn't hurt.

Beautiful place on quiet Anderson Island. Camping here was the highlight of my trip. I loved the maze of curving mowed paths to explore the meadow and the attention given to building the health of the ecosystem and increasing biodiversity on the land. It was a treat to wake up to bird calls in the morning. My bird ID app identified 15 birds, including some rare and semi-rare ones. The host was very communicative over the app, but we felt like we had the place to ourselves. Our dogs loved being off leash in this private space!

Very peaceful spot on Anderson Island, I'm grateful for the opportunity to stay on the island! There is plenty of space for tents and hammocks. Tons of flowers were in bloom when we were there in early June. Host's directions were super clear. It is very close to Jacobs park for a nice walk through the woods. It was super convenient to drive into the campsite and unload everything and park just down the hill. It's a bare bones site - bring your own table for cooking/eating/playing games. Didn't see a fire pit, but there was a burn ban on the island anyway. The (very well maintained) toilet is a bit far away and up a hill so probably wouldn't recommend for folks with mobility issues.

Great property. Such a nice quiet place. Great for the dogs too. Maintained nicely. Even the potty was cool! And creative! Really fun adventure from taking the little ferry to the beautiful place to stay. Thanks so much!

Van Campsite with Farm + Bay Views
Sara created this site on her beautiful property because I was traveling in my van and all the tent camp sites were taken. I appreciate her willingness to do this and the special listing was up the next day. Even though I had to rearrange my plans, Sara went above and beyond to get me a partial refund. I plan to rebook so I don't miss enjoying this very special place with a big open meadow, farm and bay views, nature and quiet. Sara is an amazing host!

The Perfect Camping Spot for Us!

What a magical place! My kid, dog, and I had such a peaceful camping trip at the Meadow. Sara and her family were welcoming and kind. It was wonderful to walk the property multiple times a day and get a feel for the character of the place. By the end of our trip, we felt such an affinity for this spot! My dog can be barky/reactive and the Meadow was the perfect spot for him to run around being a goofball without the worries of seeing other dogs or people. We will be back!

We had a larger group and had never been to the Island before. Not only is the island itself super lovely, but the meadows were even more beautiful than we expected. It was very secluded! There was a crazy lightning storm that evening and Sara was able to help keep us dry which was above and beyond.

We absolutely loved camping on Sara’s property - best hipcamp experience to date! The land is very well tended to, with clear pathways/trails to get around. We had a large space for our tent that overlooks a massive field of wildflowers, and just behind it was an alcove of trees that had a clear view of Mt. Rainier (I believe) which was very comfortable in the heat of the day. Also, the outhouse was thoughtfully located, clean and private. Our main reason for choosing this campsite was for our 3 herding dogs to be able to run around off leash without worrying about coming into contact with other dogs. They had sooo much space to run, play and explore safely, we have seldom seen them so happy. Word to the wise, give yourself an hour or more of buffer for the ferry ride, possibly two hours if you’re traveling on a holiday. The website is not helpful, nor are the signs. Sara and her husband were incredibly accommodating and communicative helping us get a lay of the land and having a great weekend. New favorite spot! Will be booking again!

Such a beautiful spot! We appreciated the shady side meadow to set up camp in and keep cool, and the view of Rainier was amazing - we absolutely loved watching all the sunrises and sunsets! The place was easy to get to, and the composting toilet was actually a really nice setup. Loved all the native plants on the property, and hearing birds, frogs, coyotes.

I loved tent camping on Sara’s land! The meadow is beautiful and there is lots of animals to watch ( deer and birds). The sunrise views of Mt. Tahoma are spectacular! There are hiking trails and a small pond with some tadpole's. The walk from the parking area to the meadow is pretty easy and there is a toilet near the parking area. The flowers in the meadow/on the property are gorgeous.

From the moment we turned up the long gravel drive of Sara and Michael's land, we were mesmerized by the serene beauty! They both met us upon arrival and gave us a quick tour and then gave us privacy to enjoy the gorgeous meadow. The kids and our pup enjoyed running the mowed paths through the meadow, listening to coyotes chatter, and following asleep to the sound of rain and wildlife. We highly recommend pitching a tent for a night or two in the meadow!

Madrona Meadow was the perfect destination for our family’s first camping trip with our two-year-old and newborn baby. The location was close to the ferry but secluded and peaceful. The view of Mt Rainier was majestic, and the host was super responsive. Five star accommodations super close to home. Book this today. We will be back.
