Deer and occasional coyotes roam the property, but rest assured, they are apprehensive of us and pose no threat. We derive great pleasure from spending time outdoors, so you may frequently observe us engaged in fieldwork, construction, or simply relaxing in our stargazing hammock circle. We are always available to provide you with space or invite you to join us. We derive immense satisfaction from meeting new individuals and have numerous recommendations for Whidbey Island, including the delectable blueberry stand in Freeland and the Mutiny Bay Blues, a venue that we can either recommend or provide directions to. We eagerly anticipate your visit. Fern Gully is conveniently located just a two-minute drive from the charming Greenbank Pantry. Welcome to The Landing at Index - located on the South Fork Skykomish River, in the western foothills of the Cascade Mountains, off of Highway 2. With 16 acres of beautiful, private woods and breathtaking views of Mt. Index, this is a wonderful getaway to kick back and relax after your day of adventures, or just to escape the city rush. This is a gated property, protected with a code, which you will be sent 24 hours before your arrival. Please be sure to read arrival instructions! The campsites are at the bottom of a long logging road so an SUV or AWD vehicle are preferable , especially during the wetter seasons. When the property was logged approximately 100 years ago they scooped out gravel from the river to make their roads in the area thus creating the back eddy pool along the beach. A rather peaceful setting, including the rushing sound of the river and the occasional whistle of a train. You will feel refreshed and rejuvenated after you stay at The Landing. Pets are welcome, there are private outhouses at each campsite. These outhouses are protected with a code, which is sent to you 24 hours before your arrival. Campfires are allowed (when burn bans are not in place).

But if you are a fan of the western genre and lifestyle, you might also know it as a place to go to hang out with like minded folks and experience the Cowboy lifestyle. This includes all people, men and women alike, as the term "Cowboy" is largely generic and not gender oriented. A taste of that lifestyle is what we are offering here at our Cowboy Camp. As part of your cowboy camp experience you can sign up for a horsemanship lesson involving handling and grooming horses and time spent working with the horse in the round pen. ACTIVITIES: Local hikes in forest: 1/4 mile Fort Worden: 5 mile Beach : 3 miles Our beautiful piece of property is comprised of 11 acres situated on the northeast tip of the Olympic Peninsula just outside the quaint Victorian seaport town of Port Townsend. It lies approximately 4 miles from downtown with its many art galleries, restaurants, shops, boat harbor, farmer's market and the historic Rose theater. The horses are excluded from camping areas during your visit. No need to worry about curious horses coming into your campsite to say hello. We have created a walking trail through the forest around the land that is full of the sounds of life and birds. A pileated woodpecker makes its home in the back corner and two pairs of barred owls also inhabit the nearby Douglas firs. An important note for the walking explorer, please be aware that many areas of the farm are in their natural state. This means you might encounter prickly plants such as star thistle, nettles and tansy ragwort. We are happy to identify these for you if you are unfamiliar with them. Please be aware and dress in long pants and long sleeves while hiking. There are no poisonous snakes present in this region. Side note : Due to the presence of horses, chickens and various wildlife on the property, we do not allow outside dogs at this time. Thank you for your understanding.

Great communication and easy to find. We stayed at site 2 with easy access to the meadow, which was really beautiful and peaceful, being able to chill in the meadow and play ball with the dog. Not completely private from site 1 but lots of space between the two sites that made them feel separate enough. The river access was good and easy, too.

My dog and I stayed in the cabin, it was a wonderful night! The directions from Dave were very clear, had no problem finding it. I felt very safe here, as there are 2 gates to go through, had the best sleep in a long time! It's a very big, beautiful property with so many hiking trails to explore, We loved it! The cabin was perfect, nice to have running water!

Site 1 is big with lots of open, flat area! Big enough to pitch a few tents and still throw around a football. Surrounded by trees and mostly/fully shaded.

We really enjoyed staying at Shawn's land and we would stay here again! It was private and beautiful with amazing birds to view at the river. Shawn was very helpful and provided us with a propane tank plus the propane fire pit for us to have smores. I loved that it was camping but with way less sites than a traditional campground. Highly recommend!

Generous space for tenting at Popcorn Pond. Far enough for minimal mosquitoes. Perfect spots to view the large pond from hammocks. Access to the road and trails for venturing. The rock face mountain is a real treat. The stave chapel was quaint. Definitely would love to try the A-Frame cabin some time. Dave’s communication was excellent. A true gem for getting peace and quiet. And not too far from Granite Falls for pizza or breakfast at Stilly’s in Arlington. Perfect all around.

We had such a great time at the campsite! The RV was nicely stocked, the campsites were really large, clean porta potties, and we saw deer! There was a communal gas fire pit (we weren’t guaranteed propane so we brought some), plenty of games, a sink with dish soap and sponge. It would’ve been nice to have a dumpster instead of having to take our garbage with us but Teresa’s videos were very helpful for check in and she was very quick to respond with questions.

Wow! Wow! Wow! We stayed in the Hytte, and it was truly incredible. It is so quiet and beautiful back there, and you truly feel like you have your own campground. The Hytte is picturesque and comfortable. Having a running sink, your own toilet, and a hot outdoor shower, all just really seals the deal. Dave was very responsive when I had questions, and sent us very clear and timely info for the trip. We live a long ways away, but are already scheming how to get back out to Valhalla again.

This campsite is very clean and spacious! They had multiple clean porta potties and even a shower for us to use. There was a communal fire pit place and our own bench in our area. I will definitely come back here again!

2 nights at Glamping at the Gateway

Passed through on a motorcycle trip. It was the perfect place to stop for a couple of days to explore the area. Teresa was a fantastic host and the camp was exactly what we were hoping for. The shower was hot and the porta-potties were clean. The shared fire pit area was nice to use after a long day. The camp was quiet and very relaxing. We will definitely stay here again next time we pass through.

1 night at Shadow Mountain RV & Campground

Not a bad spot for a quick overnight in the car. While there was a lot of light and noise from the road, a good eye cover and earplugs will work just fine. I didn't need either and slept well. I was surprised by how clean and organized everything was. Close to the bathroom (with lights strung to guide the path), clean toilets, showers, and trash cans. I would definitely stay again!
