Come stay in our cabin at the estuary on Turners Bay where wildlife is abundant and easy to see. The Bamboo cabin is very private and has everything you need to just hang out. Saltgrass's location allows for many fun outdoor activities such as hiking at Anacortes Washington Park or Kukutali Preserve State Park crabbing, fishing, birding, bicycling and, the beach, my kids actually found a bottle with a message inside years ago.
Alternatively, you could explore the many little shops in the towns of La Conner and Anacortes. There are multiple activities available, I would suggest calling ahead in order to book kayaking, rock climbing, whale watching, or a sailing charter. You could easily take a day trip to the San Juan Islands by taking a ferry ride out of Anacortes, walk on or book ahead if you are taking your car. Also, the Swinomish Casino and golf course are within two miles.
While you're here you may meet our pup Turner, we also have two cats and several chickens. On the property are your hosts Jeri and Nancy, as well as our handyman Sean, Saltgrass boasts beautiful flowers, vegetable gardens, fruit trees, and yes, the Bay. We try to live harmoniously with the land. We would love to share our space with you! . We thank you all for visiting our place and hope we meet your expectations.

Bayview Alpacas is located on 10 privately-gated acres across the street from Padilla Bay, a National Estuarine Research Reserve. The Reserve protects one of the largest beds of eelgrass in the contiguous United States - nearly 8,000 acres.
Habitats found here support herring, smelt, salmon, flatfish, Dungeness crab, ducks, eagles, shorebirds, and peregrine falcons. Mammals found in Padilla bay include harbor seals and river otters. Located in the northern reaches of greater Puget Sound, at the saltwater edge of the large delta of the Skagit River in the Salish Sea, the reserve is eight miles long and three miles across.
The Padilla Bay Reserve is one of 29 areas in the National Estuarine Research Reserve System. The 11,966 acres-site is protected for long-term research, water quality monitoring, education, and coastal stewardship.

The Guemes North Homestead is ten acres of gorgeous tall trees, clearings, homestead buildings, pond, trails, renewable energy gear, and more, set in the middle of the north end of Guemes Island (a 7-minute ferry from downtown Anacortes), at the end of a 1/3-mile dead-end driveway. It has nature, quiet, and privacy. It includes a 30-year-old orchard, a developed garden with fine soil, a pond with rope swing and waterslide, several solar and wind energy systems, and multiple buildings. It's about a mile in two directions from the Pacific Ocean beach, and is surrounded by wooded acreage that is criss-crossed with trails and friendly neighbors, on an island with about 700 year-round residents and an active weekend/summer population.
Homestead owner Ian Woofenden is an expert in renewable energy systems. He's lived off-grid at the homestead for 40-plus years, where he raised his large family and managed several small businesses. He now consults, sells, writes, and teaches about renewable energy in the U.S. and in Central America.
If your idea of a great getaway is to help out and do physical work, just ask Ian. There's always something going on at the homestead, including garden and orchard work, trail building, wood cutting, construction, sawmilling, and more. Ian built this place, and has a broad knowledge of lots of homestead and sustainability topics. He loves sharing his knowledge and experience with guest, students, and interns.

This land has passed through many families but was first "managed" by Salish Indians who burned the prairie and harvested native plants for food, medicine, clothing, charms and more for 10,000 years. When European settlers arrived in the 1850s, burning the prairie all but ceased and that, along with the introduction of many new exotic species of animals, crop plants and weeds, began the degradation of the landscape. Over time our site was used to graze sheep and then raise pheasants (from 1944-1999). It was slated for housing development but several citizens rose up and prevented that from happening. Now the Pacific Rim Institute, a private nonprofit organization is the steward of this precious jewel of central Whidbey and the Pacific Northwest. We have a five-acre remnant prairie with over 80 species of native plants - critical to the restoration of degraded lands throughout the Salish Sea region.
We have over two miles of walking trails for you. They traverse our prairie, savannas and forests. The land is full of color when the native wildflowers bloom from early spring through early autumn. We have a Native Plant Center where we grow up to 50 species of rare native plants. Ask us for a tour.

Almost 20 years ago, Shelley and Casey moved back to the beautiful Skagit Valley farm Shelley grew up on. Her family has farmed in the valley for five generations. Casey had studied permaculture in the San Juan Islands and they immediately began planting edible and useful plants throughout the property. They started a small Community Supported Agriculture program growing vegetables and fruit for several families. New Van Camping Site in 2023: We have a new gravel pad van site next to an 18 acre farm field with a wonderful sunset view. We do not allow fires at the site. But you would be welcome to have a campfire in our firepit a short walk from your van site. Please note, we are not currently offering firewood. But it is available at the Shell station less than 5 minutes from our farm.
Tent Site: Pitch your tent in a private corner of our little organic farm in the beautiful Skagit Valley. You will be surrounded by gorgeous edible landscaping and a stunning view of Mount Baker. Take a stroll through our gardens, graze on some fruit in season. A 10 minute walk or quick bike ride to the Skagit River offering great swimming in the warmer months.
Our farm is surrounded by many flat scenic farm roads very popular for cyclists and photographers. There are two restaurants and several antique shops less than a mile away in the cute little town of Conway. The Conway Muse is a funky music venue and restaurant hosting great live music on weekends throughout the year.

The Navy OLF is nearby. It is recommended you check the flight schedule for dates and times the jets will be flying. Depending on the direction they happen to be flying that night, it can get quite loud. In those instances, ear protection is recommended. About a third of summer weekdays the OLF is used. The jets do not fly on weekends and holidays. Having said all of this, most campers enjoy the airshow, as it is a unique opportunity.
The camp site is approximately 6 acres located in a quiet secluded forest area near highway 525. A fire pit is provided on non-burn ban days. A flat grassy area is big enough to enjoy your recreation activity of choice. Bring your binoculars and check out all the different kinds of birds. Nearby wetlands provide lots of food for birds, bats, and dragonflies. Other wildlife you may see are deer, bunnies, owls, quail, butterflies, garter snakes, and raccoons. Lots of native flora can be identified with your plant identification app or book. The beach is about a mile away where you can hunt for sea glass and enjoy the waves or build yourself a shelter out of driftwood.
The mostly flat gravel road can accommodate any size RV.

Beth was very accommodating for a very last minute reservation for a family of 5 with a dog. The yurt was spacious & spotless… cleaner than many hotels we’ve stayed at. A great intro to camping for our city kids... and their parents who haven’t camped in over a decade! Flush toilets and access to a hot shower were very nice to have. Very peaceful setting & the bullfrogs sang us to sleep. We look forward to another stay in the future.

This was my first time using Hipcamp and it went wonderfully! I stayed in site #6 and #3, one night each. Everything was as described in the listing. With exception of highway noise (died down towards the later part of the night) the property was very quiet! The sites are well spaced and neighbors were also quiet on the two nights I stayed.
Be sure to read the instructions for using the toilet. Someone during my stay wasn't sure what to do and this could cause problems for the rest of the guests if done improperly.
I'll keep this location in mind for future visits to the area. Thank you Ena!

This is my second time camping here, it is a peaceful spot and the hosts are always so friendly and welcoming. I like that other campers bring their dogs and they can play with my dogs on the property off leash. I stayed at the Wilderness #1 spot this time and it has a secluded feel with the tall grasses around three sides of the site. Helpful to be able to drive right to the site and have a nice porta potty nearby. It’s a great spot to stop on the way to Anacortes and Deception Pass!

Great space with open field and areas of shade in birch trees. Easy in and out, close to all the outdoor activities in the PNW, and a short drive for any services. Hosts are welcoming, and keep the land in great shape. Great hardwall bathroom set up with flush toilet and shower they keep clean. My new go to for moutain biking base camp near Seattle.

We had a fantastic stay and would absolutely come back! Beth and Matt were wonderful hosts. One evening, Matt showed us the fish feeding, which was a highlight for our 3-year-old.
The facilities were excellent - the toilets were spotless, the shower was warm, and we loved being able to use the paddle boards on the pond. Our campsite was spacious with plenty of room between neighbouring sites, so it felt peaceful and private. The bell tents also looked beautiful.
The location was perfect for exploring. We enjoyed visiting Edison, spent a day on Camano Island, and enjoyed a lake day at Mount Baker National Forest. We also highly recommend the BBQ spot in Sedro-Woolley.
Overall, a relaxing, family-friendly campground with thoughtful hosts and a great base for exploring the area. We’d happily stay here again.

We had a lovely time at Ian’s Homestead. 3 days was not enough to explore the many nooks and crannies on the property. The pond was intimidating at first, but a welcome soak after steaming the afternoon away in the sauna. Fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, great company, and easygoing hospitality—we will definitely be returning.

Our stay was absolutely lovely. Tucked away in a very thoughtfully constructed oasis. A lot of love was put into the landscaping with hellebore and ferns growing everywhere, the cedar throne smelling magnificent, and the deck inviting you to enjoy your morning cup of coffee. Thank you for such a lovely location!
One thing to note, not an issue, but there are trains running often and late nearby. We are hyper aware of this as one of our dogs has a deathly fear of trains (lol) so she had a sleepless night. And there is a little bit of road noise but nothing unexpected of camping!

This place is wonderful and Beth is so friendly and inviting. They have several camp spots to choose from, all are good size and easy to access. This location is a perfect jumping off point for taking the ferry to the islands or visiting the surrounding areas such as the Skagit Valley. The bathrooms are clean. The pond is nice and there is room to play sports or ride bikes or just sit by the fire… if you get the chance to, GO here!

About
On the coast of Northwest Washington, Deception Pass doesn't deceive you on views or fun things to do. Walk along the sea cliffs or feel the sand under your toes in the dunes. Rosario Beach is a great place for kite flying or playing in the surf.
More than 30 miles of hiking trails make this park easy to explore. You can bring your horse and ride on the six miles of horse trails. Bike riders have their own trails.
Spread around the park, you find 172 tent campsites and 134 partial hookup sites for RVs. If you prefer hiking or biking to your accommodations, there are five primitive campsites. Keep clean in one of the 10 restrooms with showers spread throughout the park.
Want a little more comfort? Cornet Bay offers a lodge with all the comforts of home. You can retreat to one of the 16 cabins for some privacy. Enjoy stunning views of Puget Sound and Mount Baker from the Ben Ure Cabin. The only way to reach it is by non-motorized watercraft.

Earplugs are a must! The nearby naval air station runs maneuvers frequently... those jets are LOUD. I was fortunate to not have many jets fly over in the middle of the night, but the evening was intense.

Check the naval base training schedule. The two days we camped we -- and this is no exaggeration -- we could not speak across a picnic table for the 4 hours (until 1am) that the jets were overhead.

Deception pass is one of the most incredible spots in greater Seattle area. The camping was very private and quiet. I wouldn't recommend this site for people looking to swim and get sun. But I highly recommend this site for a gorgeous, PNW treasure in a private, wooded camping ground.

1.5 hrs from Seattle. Bowman Bay was my childhood family's favorite campground, and for good reason. Set in old growth forest with water-view campsites, it's one of Washington's most pristine, tranquil parks. With only 20 campsites it always feels intimate even when full. Hot showers are in the clean bathrooms.
Relaxing trails take off on either side of the bay. One of which goes to Rosario Beach, where the picture at the top of this page was taken, not Bowman Bay. The cabins in the picture are nowhere near the campground. It's a .7 mile hike, perfect to watch the sunset and return before nightfall.
Cons: Sometimes jets from the Whidbey Island Airbase fly over at night. Locals call it the Sound of Freedom. Reservations a must.

Beware the proximity to the Naval Airstation: you may be startled by very loud engine noise periodically, which sometimes last a while (repeated take off & landing practice). Growler airplanes are LOUD!
