Our unique location is close to Bend city limits and right next to Horse Ridge Mountain Biking Trails. BLM land surrounds the area, and is even accessible from the upper part of our property. Come out and enjoy the high desert and explore the juniper forest.
We have tent camping sites and one tipi.
We are currently in the process of still building out our glamping pods. However in the mean time you can currently book a stay at those sites for tent camping.
The tent sites offer a comfortable setting for your tent in the sandy dirt.

Come enjoy wandering the juniper forest and sage brush in Central Oregon’s high desert. We are next to 100’s of acres of BLM land, including the Horse Ridge Mountain Biking Trail System. There is hiking, biking, horse trails and ATV trails all nearby. Our open skies are great for daydreaming and stargazing. Come see how bright the milky way is out here Sage Ridge.

TOM'S REST was created by Tom's wife Cheryl in an effort to carry out their plans to provide respite for those in need. Tom Edwards worked tirelessly for years to clear this wild recreation space where he planned to live while helping others. Tom suddenly and unexpectedly passed February 2, 2015 while in the process of making his move to Sisters with his High School sweetheart of 45 years. Cheryl continued his passion and their dream to make this a place for those in need as a way to honor the most giving man she ever knew. This process has brought some healing and it is our hope to continue that healing for others in need from life's many trials.
Anyone experiencing grief, widows/widowers, can enjoy a respite visit to refuel and support during tough times.
Those that come to enjoy Tom's Rest will hopefully gain some needed respite. Most feel they are pretty much 'on their own' in this retreat area with the option for seclusion OR mingling if so desired.
My deepest thanks to all who have stood alongside through this journey and continue to do so.

Hi and welcome to Picknik Place LLC!
This campsite is situated on a 20-acre farm, so it feels remote and removed from the primary residents. With this spot, you are nestled under a juniper tree that provides ample shade with a lava rock backdrop, and can watch the sun dip below the Three Sisters volcanoes in the distance. This spot is very simple and tucked away, perfect for stargazing at night with limited light pollution. There is a picnic table, swing, and fire pit (please make sure the fire ban is off for this). There is no water, electricity, septic, or wifi. You do have cell service.
Please remember, you may encounter wildlife. This can include, but not limited to, deer, coyotes, snakes, spiders, etc. I have seen many bull snakes around that mimic rattlesnakes but are harmless. As long as you do not aggravate any animals, they should leave you alone. Also, please remember if you have pets, to keep them under control and be aware that cheat grass in the summer months can get stuck in their paws, ears, etc.
While feeling remote and removed from the Bend tourism, it only takes 15 minutes to get downtown Bend, where there are ample restaurants, shops, coffeehouses, the Deschutes River, etc. It takes 7 minutes to get to Trader Joe's and Home Depot, and 10 minutes to get to St. Charles Hospital. We are perfectly situated between Smith Rock State Park (25 minutes) and the High Desert Museum (17 minutes).
Heads up: as many places in central Oregon, Picknik Place gets pretty dusty, dry, and hot in the summer months. You may also encounter minimal road noise. Enjoy this private spot with all of the surrounding natural beauty!

Or head west through 120+ acres of forest that connects straight to the Deschutes River Trail (about 4 minutes away). From there, it’s all about the outdoors—fishing, bouldering, biking, swimming, rafting…you name it.

This 320 acre plot of land on which you can hike anywhere has been in our family since 1993.
Large, graveled spot for tents or two vehicles with excellent view for miles and miles and night star gazing. Primitive outhouse. Juniper forest with sage brush... basically high desert vegetation. We only allow one reservation per night. You can arrange vehicles or tents to not be in view or block any view from house way above. 320 acres to hike and roam. Mitchell is 10 miles away with well stocked grocery and feed store, restaurants, small brewery, and tire shop. We give directions fairly quickly. Road is wide, but steep at top. 4 wheel drive is recommended. Very close to the Painted Hills Unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National monument, Ochoco National Forest is seven miles. John Day River for swimming, rafting about 20 minutes. If you can book, it means you can drive on up with out contacting us. As you drive in if at night, you will see a light on the outhouse.

We are close enough to Bend where if you need something you are not far, but far enough out that you have dark star filled nights with full view of the milky way.
We have our local honey available on the ranch in both pints and 1/2 pints!

Cabin on the Rim is a beautiful and quiet off the grid getaway. A studio cabin overlooking the Crooked River Canyon. It is nestled into the cliff side on the back end of a 110 acre working horse ranch.

We loved our stay here. Wish we had more time to visit but we would definitely come back again. Amazing view, very quiet, and can’t beat how close it is to sisters and bend. Host was very kind and the whole process of arriving and leaving was very smooth.

Great campsite for all sorts of camping- i was car camping for the weekend and needed a last minute spot and this could not have been more perfect. The yurts look comfy!
The whole campground is very accessible and the bathrooms are beautiful. Scott was an awesome host and very friendly ☺️

We had a great time at Road House Ranch. We stayed behind the main house which was perfect. There was grass and shade, two nice things to have with kiddos in Bend during the month of August. The bathrooms were clean and a shower was so nice to have after a dusty ride! Thank you Scott!

What a lovely place to escape the city. Its rustic but extremely private and gorgeous night skies.
Even with the nearby fires and smoke, the entire milkyway was visible from our site.
Painted hills are very close and a great place to see and refill drinking water.
I even got some cell service occasionally on top of the hill at the site.
Some goats came to visit us one day. They didnt bother us though. Just sniffed us and made goat noises at us.
It was so quiet and peaceful. Would recommend.

I was hoping for a safe, easy, affordable, no frills spot to park for the night to star/meteor gaze and this fit the bill perfectly! The property is clean and well laid out. I didn't need the kitchen area but imagine that could be handy for multiple night stays. The porta-pottie was clean, too. I did go for a hike up Horse Ridge as the trailhead is behind the property on Old 20 Hwy.

At first glance, I had thought I was only going to be sleeping outside in a hammock. I knew there were showeres and bsthrooms, which was a plus! That's what I had been expecting, and I was not upset about the potential arrangement.
When I actually got there, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I was quite incorrect. There were not only hammocks, bathrooms, and showere, but multiple options for food and beverages! Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. I should note, too, there *were* beds and rooms to rent, but i had not attempted to rent one.
The facilities were clean and well maintained, the food was quite tasty, the people lovely, and drinks, cold. Also: VERY close to the little downtown area (which had MANY food and drink spots and options, too).
Overall, I am glad I made the choice to stop in for the night that I was there, and do not regret staying in the least. I felt like it was money well spent.

Super convenient to Bend, if you want to visit the area. I loved the Gazebo at the back of the property. In the hot summer months, it is a game changed. The bathrooms/showers were clean and a welcome retreat after going without for a few days. More hooks in the bathrooms would be nice when showering. Sites are not all equal in size or shade, so try to pick one that meets your needs. Great facility and location overall.

3 nights at Sage Ridge
This was our second time staying at Sage Ridge with Sandy & Tim. As with last time they are the most gracious hosts, and are such kind people.
The land is breathtaking. The junipers are a perfect introduction to the Oregon Outback.
The sky though?? The sky is why we come out. The Perseid Meteor Shower is the highlight of our year, and the night sky is pristine. The shots I took of the cosmos are beautiful.
It’s unfathomable that a place as dark as Sage Ridge is ~25 minutes from Bend. That convenience is bonkers. We highly recommend staying in ANY of their sites.
We stayed in the Island site last year, and this year decided to utilize the Tipi on Coyote Hill site. So worth it.
The tipi is comfortable, and fits four people Easily. We brought our tent just in case, but didn’t need at once, (obviously).
Thank you so much Tim & Sandy for being amazing hosts, and for the recommendation of some Cascade Lakes to chill at during the blisteringly hot days.

This is a fantastic cabin in a beautiful location. Colby and April went above and beyond with their communication and hospitality. So glad we chose this place and would recommend it to anyone interested in staying in the area. It was clean, well equipped and comfortable, with intentional details and a stunning view. We were sad to leave!

This was a great spot to camp while visiting Bend. The bathrooms with showers were new and clean. The gazebo with gas fire pit and games was a great hangout spot - and it had misters during the day when it was hot! The trail to an amazing sunset viewing spot was fun, and we spotted several lizards in the rocks. My family loved our stay and would come here again!
