Serene setting, but loud ambience.
For the first few days of our family camping trip we were staying at one of Whidbey's state parks. Unfortunately, due to the long weekend, we were not able to secure a campsite for the last few days. So we changed to a HipCamp spot, staying in site number 3.
The site was very private; we did not hear other campers at all, and only briefly spoke with them while returning from the porta potty. Getting into the campsite was easy, although we did have to deal with a few wayward branches that were extending into the access lane. Trees surrounded the tent site, making it very shady and cool during the day.
Those were the positives. On the downside, we must have arrived on a training day for the local naval airbase. While setting up the tents it was a series of planes taking off, one after another. It was LOUD! Now, for many of you reading this the thrill of jets taking off might seem exciting. We have three small children who were unsettled, plus a dog. It necessitated a trip to the hardware store to buy $50 worth of ear protection. In fairness, days two and three were much more calm in terms of jet noise, and we have since heard from a friend of a friend that the aircraft do not fly on weekends. So, again it may be an issue, or it may be a thrill, depending on one's bent. We most likely simply timed it wrong.
One more positive, communicating with the owner was easy before our stay (we did not meet each other during our stay). Wendy responded promptly to our inquiries.
