The Glendale Farm

At 180 acres Glendale Farm in Chimacum, in operation since 1857, is one of the largest single agricultural properties remaining in Jefferson County. The farm includes prime agricultural soils, over half a mile of East Chimacum Creek, and forested uplands. The farm continues to provide food, fiber, and habitat for future generations. The easement protects a buffer zone for salmon and wildlife habitat along the east fork of Chimacum Creek and protects the agricultural and forestry values of the property forever. Jefferson Land Trust worked with Jefferson County and Jefferson LandWorks Collaborative partners to purchase the easement with state Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program Farmland Preservation grant funds, Jefferson County Conservation Futures funds, and community funds. There are many old growth stumps dotted around the property; many acting as "nurse or Mother logs" to new growth. We have been here for 30 years & have select logged keeping the integrity of the property in tact. These trees know they are loved and honored. They are happy & it shows. You feel the vibe a soon as you drive up. Since then we have blazed trails & carved out campsites & campgrounds throughout. All of them resembling nature's little carved out "rooms." We have enjoyed this property for these past 33 years. We have shared it with family & friends time & time again. There is so much love & positive energy breathing within these boundaries. Kragnes Family Farm Mt Baker Camp

Our 28 acres are located in between maple falls and glacier, Wa, directly on Mt Baker Hwy on the way to Beautiful Mt Baker. Ben and I run a chemical free farm, on which we raise 7 and 1/2 acres of veggie and flower. 15 acres of pastureland on which we raise pasture raised chicken, as well as biannual lamb and beef. The remainder of our land is breathtaking pacific northwest forest that is boarded by the Bay to Baker trail. Our campsites range between walk in wooded sites, and car camping sites that are open field sites next to the tree line. We provide wagons in our cart corral area to make it more convenient for the very short walk in. ( no more then a 200 foot walk in) We have a beautiful cedar grove to enjoy for lounging and picnics. The Bay to Baker trail borders our property, so it is just steps away and includes a 45 min round walk to a quaint little waterfall (maple falls). As well as a nature loop trail. You can also walk the other direction on the trail over a boardwalk and up to the Nooksack river. This direction walks along the back of the farm and allows you to see the veggie fields from a distance. There is a conservation area, just a quarter mile drive down the road. With access to the Nooksack river, that includes several nice swimming spots and a couple nice walking trials. Silver Lake is just 3.8 miles away. It has a great recreation area, fun for the whole family. Just a heads up , you will probably lose service on your drive up here. But you will get service back when you are here. We suggest putting the map in your phone before you leave. Google maps will take you just past the farm, and apple maps will stop you too soon. So you are looking for the large kragnes family farms sign in the driveway. pull in and follo the camping signs to the back.

1 night at Rusty Ranch Tree Farm and Forest

What a find! The bunkhouse was awesome, very peaceful and comfortable for us and our dogs. The view from the porch is perfect, outhouse was pristine, and a late check in was very easy for us. The grounds are a perfect setup with plenty of space between the sights, and our dogs loved relaxing on the porch this morning. Margaret was very responsive and pleasant to speak with. We’ll be back again!

What a beautiful piece of paradise. Camping at Fern Gully was more than we could have ever expected. Directions were clear, host were friendly, and the site was gorgeous. I can't wait to go back.

2 nights at Rusty Ranch Tree Farm and Forest

Another amazing visit to Scott & Margaret's Alder Meadow. This is the 4th or 5th time we've been there. Every time is amazing. Margaret has done such a wonderful job with the property. My kids love that she has a snack shack where they can purchase an ice cream bar or popsicle. Probably the cleanest, nicest smelling outhouse I've ever used. We will be back in the future.

Margaret was so accommodating when I had to change plans several times due to a series of my own unfortunate events. What was supposed to be an overnight stay became a day trip, and Margaret was accommodating to my changes in plans. She was so quick about communicating and ensuring that I still had a great time. The site was amazing. It was clean, large, shaded and sunny, and had trail access to the creek. The entire camp is well maintained, and the outhouse was spectacularly clean. The trails had clear trail markers, and even though I explored them, I feel like I only scratched the surface. I was truly disappointed to leave. I will be back.

Weekend Trip to Run w/ Alpacas Farm Stay Port Angeles

This was a fun and unique opportunity. It was low-key, the animals were friendly and we loved having them walk right past our tent. We were bummed to have just missed a baby alpaca birth, as we already left for the day, but loved that they hosts came looking for us to see if we wanted to come watch. The site is right by a grocery store and in town, even though it doesn’t seem like it. It is also very close to Olympic National Park, so it is very convenient, if you have u was to visit.

Wonderful stay on Nichelle’s land! Camping here was peaceful and scenic—truly a special spot. Nichelle was incredibly attentive and accommodating throughout our stay, with great communication from start to finish. The views were beautiful, and we felt welcomed and well taken care of. Highly recommend if you're looking for a getaway with a responsive and thoughtful host! Thank you Nichelle!

We loved the site, land, and the welcoming nature of Margaret and Rusty Ranch. The grounds were very well maintained, grass even soft to walk barefoot all weekend. Excellent amenities at every turn. Playgrounds, swings, sand toys, activity book with forest information for the kids and trails for all ability levels. Wild berries by the creek were a very nice surprise and great incentive to keep the little ones exploring longer. This ranch would be great for several families to camp together but also the sites are spaced enough that you dont hear each other or feel on top of other guests. Core memories were certainly made this weekend.

And good peace of mind to be able to have this reservation booked during a busy holiday weekend where camping spots can be hard to come by. Bathroom portapotty was very clean, and appreciated the drinking water available by the picnic tables. Thanks for a great stay!

2 nights at Run w/ Alpacas Farm Stay Port Angeles

Rondi, her husband and the animals are such grounding forces! It was such a relief for my daughter and I as we live right in the heart of the busy city and desperately needed to rest and recuperate while there. We fed the alpacas, took naps, explored the property and neighborhood, made food at the picnic table that was provided and played frisbee! It really can’t get better than that! It was comforting to see how much Rondi and her husband really love their animals and it shows in all that they do. Rondi was gracious enough to tell me the back stories about the animals and educate us about the different types of sheep and alpacas they have there. One of the highlights was that my daughter got to care for baby lamb named Marylou who’d been rejected by her mother by feeding her straight from the bottle! I had a beautiful experience with a baby llama that was very curious about me and made it known by sniffing my face and making deep eye contact. Super magical! It was such a beautiful and lovely experience that I’d like to come back and volunteer my time. This organization is doing amazing healing work with the animals and it overflows out to those who come stay here. I support them whole heartedly! Thank you Rondi and Greg!

The friendly hosts were helpful via instant message in advance of our visit and when we were on site. The port-o-potty was spotless, the campsites nicely tended to, and directions to and from were well marked. This was a nice place to spend an evening and it put us right onto the Hurricane Ridge road bright and early the next morning.

We arrived late in the evening and had to catch an early morning ferry, so staying at this campground was the perfect choice. We booked one of the car camping sites and slept inside our vehicle — super convenient and exactly what we needed for a quick overnight stay. The location is fantastic — just a 10-minute drive to the ferry terminal with no traffic at all. The area is beautiful and peaceful, and the grounds were well maintained and clean. We truly wished we had more time to enjoy the amenities! The host was incredibly kind and helpful — she sent us all the information we needed via message and made the whole experience smooth and welcoming. We’d love to come back and stay longer next time to fully enjoy everything the campground has to offer!

Beautiful trails to hike. Site are well maintained, very easy to access. I can see how this is a great family place to camp. Lots to do. I however enjoyed a very quiet solo stay during the mid-week.

We had a great time at Nichelles Hipcamp. The location can’t be beat, great views, amazing host! And my personal favorite thing was NO MOSQUITOS. I am a mosquito magnet so camping is completely ruined for me if I’m being eaten alive and itching the entire time. We had no issues at this location and will definitely go back. As the site continues to be developed it will get better and better. I recommend to bring a shovel for some of the upper sites to level out spots as needed and note that some of the sites are small if you plan to have multiple tents. All in all great camping experience go check it out. Also Rosario beach across the street was 10/10

Weekend Trip to Fern Gully Camp

We loved our campsite (4) so much! It was so secluded: we had a little journey through the field via car, then arrived at our site that is tucked into the woods. We were so lucky to have salmon berries surrounding us as well. We had two toddlers with us and it was a safe and fun place for them to play and explore. The folks on the property were so friendly. It is a great base to explore both ends of the island. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Weekend Trip to Fern Gully Camp

A divine campsite that was private and secluded! There was a short walk from our car to the campsite which made it feel like we were in the backcountry. The walk also was lined with ripe salmonberries and blackberries. We picked some for our breakfast which was the cherry on top of a perfect evening at this site. Not to mention, our 2 dogs had a great time roaming the site with confidence. Highly recommend.

Our 3rd time at The Rusty Ranch Hipcamp. Always love it! The property is beautiful, well maintains, spacious and private campsites, badminton/volleyball areas, lawn games available to use, very clean composting outhouses and just the loveliest host. Nestled in Greenbank, Washington, Fern Gully, is an old horse farm that has been transformed into a Hip Camp. We’re delighted to welcome you back to our farm in 2025! We have installed new signage to facilitate site identification. Many of you were familiar with my sister, Morgan. She has recently relocated to Texas. My name is Erin. My boyfriend, Dave, and I reside in the farmhouse. My mother, Lauren, also makes her home here. We have discovered several exceptional camping spots on our 15-acre property. Immerse yourself in the tranquility of the forest or lounge in our stargazing hammock circle. During the summer months, from July to September, our farm will be ablaze with seasonal fruit, including blackberries, cherries, apples, and salmonberries. Our expansive fields and wooded surroundings are also home to a diverse array of wildlife, such as bald eagles, red-tailed hawks, barn swallows, quail, and their offspring. Deer and occasional coyotes roam the property, but rest assured, they are apprehensive of us and pose no threat. We derive great pleasure from spending time outdoors, so you may frequently observe us engaged in fieldwork, construction, or simply relaxing in our stargazing hammock circle. We are always available to provide you with space or invite you to join us. Breakfast ( described in intro above, is $15 per person) THE PROPERTY Just what is Cowboy Camp, you might ask. The traditional definition refers to sleeping outside under the stars with only a bedroll, a fire and the night sky for companions. But if you are a fan of the western genre and lifestyle, you might also know it as a place to go to hang out with like minded folks and experience the Cowboy lifestyle. This includes all people, men and women alike, as the term "Cowboy" is largely generic and not gender oriented. A taste of that lifestyle is what we are offering here at our Cowboy Camp. HORSES It wouldn't be Cowboy Camp without horses and they are definitely present. They can be heard whinnying at mealtimes and throughout the day as they keep in touch with each other. They are generally quiet at night. Horses are not allowed in camping areas when campers are present. No farm would be complete without chickens and ours is no exception. A few hens can generally be seen wandering around the barn searching for bugs, We do not have a rooster, so guests can sleep peacefully. We are offering camping sites ranging from simple tent sites with fire ring, picnic table and soft sandy tent sites to small cabin type tents with beds and electricity. As part of your cowboy camp experience you can sign up for a horsemanship lesson involving handling and grooming horses and time spent working with the horse in the round pen. (There is no actual riding such as a trail ride offered at this time, we are working on that). You can also sign up for a roping lesson. Learn to throw a loop and catch "Little blue", our roping dummy steer head. HIKES AND BIKES We also have games of horseshoes ( with real horseshoes) and corn hole boards. You can take a hike around the property on our trail through mature Douglas fir and majestic Western cedar forest. A 1/4 mile walk down our quiet country gravel road will take you to the 80 acre Jefferson County Land trust forest with several beautiful trails meandering through mature uncut forest. These trails are suitable for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. That forest further connects to the Cappy's trail system, a network of several miles of trails that will wind around and eventually lead into Port Townsend itself if you choose to venture into town. Or you can choose to travel via mountain bike or foot approximately one mile down the road to the DNR forest property that will lead you through more gorgeous wooded and open areas to access the Larry Scott trail, a 7.3 mile out and back firm surface multi-use trail that leads either out of town through the woods or to the north directly into Port Townsend along the scenic waterfront. Our beautiful piece of property is comprised of almost 11 acres situated on the northeast tip of the Olympic Peninsula just outside the quaint Victorian seaport town of Port Townsend. It lies approximately 4 miles from downtown with its many art galleries, restaurants, shops, boat harbor, farmer's market and the historic Rose theater. The farm itself is located within a section of old growth forest comprised of 100 year old Doug Firs, cedar trees and alder groves. There is an open pasture area in the center of the property, which is ringed completely by thick stands of forest, so it feels completely private. You have to look closely to see the neighboring two houses through the forest. The horses are excluded from camping areas during your visit, and will most likely be housed on neighboring property while guests are present. No need to worry about curious horses coming into your campsite to say hello. It is a wildlife paradise with frequent visits from local deer, bald eagles, ducks on the pond, owls nesting in the trees, and coyotes travelling through. The frog pond is alive all night with singing. If you are a light sleeper you might consider earplugs. We have created a walking trail through the forest around the land that is full of the sounds of life and birds. A pileated woodpecker makes its home in the back corner and two pairs of barred owls also inhabit the nearby Douglas firs. They can be heard at night calling out as they settle in for the evening. An important note for the walking explorer, please be aware that many areas of the farm are in their natural state. This means you might encounter prickly plants such as star thistle, nettles and tansy ragwort. We are happy to identify these for you if you are unfamiliar with them. Please be aware and dress in long pants and long sleeves while hiking. There are no poisonous snakes present in this region. We train horses here so there is a full size riding arena and training round pen. On any given day, you might see horses being trained and ridden. MORE ABOUT THE FOOD At the end of your day of adventures, you can opt to sign up ( when your site is booked) for a delicious feast at Cowboy Camp. Using old time traditional Dutch oven cooking techniques and slow smoking methods, meals are comprised of such items as slow cooked smoked pork shoulder or ribs, Dutch oven baked "Horseshoe Beans" ( a crowd favorite), fire roasted corn on the cob (in season) , homemade potato salad, green spinach salad, and of course dessert such as homemade blackberry cobbler or pineapple upside down cake. Vegetarian selections are also available upon request. ADVENTURES CLOSE BY Venturing out from the farm you can sign up to go on a whale watching excursion with Puget Sound Express out of Port Townsend. Seeing a whale is guaranteed or you get a free return trip. Also, the Olympic National Park is only a short one hour drive to the west and the view from Hurricane Ridge is not to be missed. Your Hosts: Property owners Karma and Rick come with a long extensive history of experience in the horse industry and western culture. Together they share over 100 years of experience with horses, both having ridden since young children. Karma loves sharing her knowledge of horses and horsemanship with others and has been a certified riding instructor for many years. Rick grew up with a horse and cattle background from a young age. As a young man he competed in the rodeo sports of bareback broncs, calf roping, bull riding and team roping. He then worked as a professional farrier, horse trainer and ranch employee in Texas. He learned the art of Texas BBQ cooking while living and working on Texas ranches. He loves to cook for others and enjoys sharing tales of the ranch life. You can choose to be as involved as you like during your visit. You can sit quietly in the forest and just enjoy peace and quiet if you so desire. We will not bother you. Tips for snagging a campsite

Campsite reservations can be made up to nine months in advance.
The Midway and Mountain Lake campgrounds are open November 1 to April 1 on a first-come, first-served basis.
Twelve hiker-biker sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis year-round.
A site in the Southend Campground is reserved for ADA-permitted users (the campground also has an ADA-accessible bathroom).
A vacation house (for groups up to 8) can be reserved through the Washington State Park Reservation System.

When to go

Moran State Park is open year-round. Summer weekends are typically the most popular--anyone wanting to visit during these times are strongly encouraged to make reservations in advance. Forty-foot Cascade Falls is at its peak in the late spring (as is the fishing for the lake of the same name), while the mild autumns and winters of the San Juans offer plenty of rewards for campers seeking solitude. Mountain bikers should plan to visit between September 15 and May 15, when 25 miles of trails are open for that purpose.

Know before you go

Orcas Island is only accessible via ferry from Anacortes (80 miles north of Seattle), which fills up fast during the summer. Reservations are strongly recommended, particularly for RVs over 22 feet in length.
A snack bar and boat rentals (paddle boats and rowboats) are available Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.
Two-pole fishing is allowed in the park with a permit.
While four of the park’s bathrooms have coin-operated showers, there are no electrical hookups available for RVs.

Midway Campground

A bit crowded, the campsites were a bit close together but otherwise well maintained. Facilities were clean and nearby.

Midway Campground

A little bit more crowded than our Mountain Lake Campground, but still quite lovely. Several trailheads nearby, a boating lodge, a snack shack, boat rentals, bbqs and group picnic area are available. The campground hosts were very kind. There is running water and showers. Firewood on an honor system. The nearest town and gas station are only a short 10 minute drive away.

Mountain Lake Campground

Reserved a lake side spot for my husband's birthday and was amazed at the peaceful site we booked. There are several trailheads nearby, and facilities when in season. We enjoyed our stay very much and the lake itself was GORGEOUS.
