Like a postcard photograph, Bigfoot Campout sits perched over Mirror Lake on one end of a mountain bowl. Campers will have gorgeous views and sunsets over the lake. Fishing, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing, hiking and wildlife watching abound. The campsite is off-the-beaten path so you'll be away from the crowds, yet the site is still close to other area attractions like Lake Pend Oreille (10 min. drive), charming downtown Sandpoint (15 min. drive) and Silverwood Theme Park (30 min. drive).
The beauty and allure of Mirror Lake led to it being featured in two Hollywood movies -- Dante's Peak (1997) and Mel (1998). The lake itself is excellent for fishing, and stocked with Kokanee, Brook Trout, Rainbow Trout, and Cutthroat Trout. The stocking is typically scheduled for the first week of June each year, so if you are an angler, it's best to come after June 7th for the best fishing.
Paying homage to the Bigfoot legend in northern Idaho, the theme of this campground is all things Sasquatch! Can you find all 9 Sasquatch hiding throughout the campground?
Swimming in nearby Talache Landing (a.k.a. Talache Beach) on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille is an absolute must-do. The views are absolutely stunning and the water is crystal clear -- and quite refreshing on a hot day.
Fishing is best done in a canoe or small boat which can be put in at our campground dock (free) or at the nearby public boat ramp ($5 fee).
When selecting your campsite, please take note of the following:
Best lake views: Sites A, C and D. (Sites 1, 2, 3, E and F have partially obstructed lake views due to trees.)
Easiest RV access: Site B. It's a pull-through site.

Looking to do some hiking? We are loaded with nearby alpine lakes, peaks, and more trails to suit your needs and adventure cravings. Danny has hiked the majority of them in the area and is always up to help plan and recommend local hikes. Furthermore, we are nearby and centralized to many must-see places. As stated, Silverwood Theme Park and Farragut State Park (including their gun range) are all located ten minutes or less from our property. Other places to see include Bayview, Idaho and Sandpoint, Idaho - both situated on beautiful Lake Pend Oreille.
Things to note:
-Your site will be fully stocked to meet your camping needs! This includes a picnic table, a smokeless fire pit, fire starting materials, and a pad or pads to accommodate your tent(s).
-Nicely sized firewood bundles will be available for purchase.
-Our campground has a fully functioning outhouse that we take great pride in maintaining to ensure cleanliness and a pleasant experience. It may just be the biggest outhouse you’ve ever seen!
-Our campground now has potable water! Near the firewood stand you will find a spigot that can be used for your camping needs. Your site will have a large six gallon container of non-potable water to be used in the case of a fire emergency (if safe to do so).
-Dogs are allowed, but must be kept on a leash. Please pick up after your pet.
-Tessa and Danny were both born and raised in Northern Idaho. If you have questions or need suggestions on anything at all feel free to ask!
-We live in an area of five acre lots. You can expect to hear the occasional, friendly neighborhood noise.

Elk, deer, turkeys, geese, ducks. rabbits, squirrels and the occasional cougar or bear. At any time, one critter or another will stroll through and check out our guests. We don't have a view of the river but it's nearby and our meadows and mountains offer a peaceful scene all its own. Camp surrounded by Old Growth Cedars and towering Grand Fir, stargaze by night, enjoy a campfire, smores and time with your family, Our peace includes little to no cellular service and don't offer internet or satellite tv. Feels like we're in the country but we live on a paved county road and only 4 miles from the city of Priest River.
Bring your boat for a trip on the Pend Oreille River to Lake Pend Oreille. Launching is a short distance away at the Mud Hole, Priest River City Beach or Riley Creek Campground. Try your hand at fishing for bass, kokanee, perch, northern pike, and trout in the river or on the lake. Wake up in a peaceful woodsy setting where elk, deer, the occasional moose and turkeys roam the property and are often seen in the meadow.
Load up your ATV, side by side or motorcycle and head for Priest Lake right from here. It’s a 21 mile (40 minute ride) to Coolin, ID. Enjoy the back county and take some of the IDL roads along the way to explore scenic drainages and in July/August pick some luscious huckleberries (the state fruit of Idaho) for a pancake or milkshake treat. In the fall, a nice central location for hunting camp. Want to go skiing or enjoy the summer lift ride? Head up to Schweitzer Mountain, about an hour drive away (38 miles/65 mins). The city of Sandpoint and Lake Pend Oreille (Idaho's largest lake) are a half hour away (26 miles/33 mins) and Silverwood Theme Park in Athol, ID less than an hour away (36 miles/52 min).

Maverick Mountain Home is perched on a mountainside several hundred feet above picturesque Trestle Creek, a protected Kokanee Salmon and Bull Trout spawning habitat, two short but gorgeous miles up the road from Lake Pend Oreille. Our property is hidden within an epic cedar, fir and pine forest, bracketed by the Kaniksu National Forest to the east and conservation land to the west.
SPRING/SUMMER/FALL:
Spend the afternoon at the Trestle Creek on the eastern shore of Lake Pend Oreille, only two miles down the road (just off Highway 200), where you can launch your boat, swim at the beach, or paddle along the shore in your kayak or SUP.
Or, take an adventurous backcountry drive up Trestle Creek Road into the mountains of the Kaniksu National Forest where you can check out Lunch Peak Lookout, hike miles of pristine trails to one of the three nearby mountain lakes, explore several waterfalls, or drive the entire 35 mile backcountry loop down to the town of Clark Fork.
If quiet rest is what you seek, find a secluded spot next to one of creeks where you can hang a hammock and listen for that still small voice. Or read a book until the peaceful whispers of flowing water and breeze through the trees lulls you to sleep.
You'll be in for a special treat if you book your site during the annual Kokanee Salmon spawning season! The salmon run usually starts during the last week in August or first week in September and lasts through late September. There are a multitude of viewing locations along Trestle Creek to witness this yearly miracle and snap some amazing photos!
WINTER:
Bring your snow machines and take advantage of sled in/sled out access from your campsite to the Trestle Creek loop system, boasting spectacular backcountry terrain with 50+ miles of groomed trails and hundreds of thousands of off-trail acres to explore! On-site trailer parking adjacent to the road is available.
If skiing is your thing, Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort is an easy (and gorgeous) 45 minute commute. Don't tell anyone, but Schweitzer Mountain is an absolute gem of a ski resort with 2,900 acres of gorgeous skiing terrain (and epic views) for all ages and skill levels. Our family spends a good bit of time skiing here.
Winter Driveway Access: a 4-wheel/all-wheel drive vehicle is required to climb our driveway during winter conditions.
OUR STORY:
We (Tim and Molly) spent 14 years raising our young family in the desert heat of north Phoenix. Every summer we went dispersed camping as many weekends as possible with our four (now five) children in the backcountry mountain ranges of northern Arizona. We watched our family grow stronger together and sibling relationships flourish as the mental and emotional grime of the city grind was slowly washed from our souls during idle morning hangouts, afternoon hiking adventures and evening stories and laughs around the campfire.
We had a particularly amazing mountaintop experience in 2014 backcountry camping over Labor Day Weekend where we felt a strong calling to share with others the blessings we were experiencing. Our hearts were impressed with a desire to host a place in the "wilderness" where people and families could escape and unwind from the noise and pace of city life for a few days and maybe even have a mountaintop experience of their own.
After several years of waiting for the right timing, we started exploring and found this place in January 2019. By April we had sold our home in Phoenix and moved our family 2,000 miles north to this 27 acre property on a mountain of Hope. We named it Maverick Mountain Home, which captures our love of the wilderness, our mission to care for the lost, and our desire to be unbranded by the world.
Upon landing here we immediately got to work preparing. We've spent the last five years working on hundreds of different projects, including: rehabilitating our driveway, beginning a long-term whole-house remodel, building a chicken coop, maintaining our driveway, fencing in a new orchard, chicken yard, and pig yard, planting trees, replacing a spring house, maintaining our driveway, installing underground infrastructure for future guest facilities, clearing trails, milling lumber, and maintaining our driveway.
In 2024 we dedicated a good portion of April and May to preparing our first HipCamp site, Living Water, which went live on our wedding anniversary at the end of May. We added our second site, Boondock Butte in July with plans for several more sites in coming years. Since the first booking on our opening weekend we've watched as that line from "Field of Dreams" came true in our "backyard" - we built it and they started coming.

Our property is located on 7 forested acres a few miles from Sandpoint. We have a few different houses on the property where parts of my family live. There are 3 rental spots that are all creek side and next to each other. You can wade in the shallow creek, swim in the pond, enjoy a walk up the road or camp area and just enjoy your camp spot surrounded by the forest and creek. There are also many trails and adventures within a 15 min drive of the property. Please note there are no restroom facilities. Campers are required to bring their own toilet setup.
We have a few dogs that live on property and like to come say hi to the campers and play fetch. The dogs are all friendly, but we ask that any guests bringing their own dogs please keep them on a leash as we do not know how they would all interact each other or local wildlife.

This campsite is about 20 minutes drive from Sandpoint, ID. perched on the mountainside overlooking Lake Pend Oreille, the Pack River Flats, Idaho Club Golf Course, Schweitzer Ski Resort, and the Norther Selkirk Mountian Range, the property is bordered on the east by millions of acres of USFS lands (Kaniksu National Forest) to the east, and bordered on the west by thousands of acres of Idaho Fish & Game land. fishing on the Pack River is only a football field away, or if you want to tow a boat, the public boat launch on the lake is only a 5 minute drive from camp. Horse camping? Ride your horse off the property into hundreds of miles of horse trails, free to explore. Hunting? Make this camp one of the most beautiful base camps you ever had. Bring a bottle of wine and watch the sun set over the Selkirks while you enjoy the smoke and crackle of the campfire.
Campsites are primitive, but two of them have enough space for boondocking. :-)

Enjoy the beauty of North Idaho at one of our two back-in RV sites, each equipped with full hookups including 50-amp power, water, and sewer. Nestled on a quiet private road, these sites offer a peaceful setting with beautiful views of Lake Pend Oreille. YOU WILL NEED A REDUCER FROM 50 TO 30amp. Water shoes are highly recommended.
Perfect for boaters, both sites include water access and a shared floating dock—ideal for launching kayaks and paddle boards, relaxing in the sun, or enjoying lunch by the water. The maximum length for (motorhomes only) is 40' in length. Some low rigs could drag from the street to the pad.
Utilizing the boat slip is an extra cost.
The sites are located on a vacant lot next to our private cabin, and there is one neighboring RV on a separate lot nearby. Come experience lakeside living and the tranquility of the great outdoors.

For your safety and enjoyment, the maximum campers to one site are 6 (EXCEPTIONS UP TO 8 WITH ADDITONAL FEE). Additional persons will be an extra charge of $10.00 per person per night. One vehicle with RV/trailer per site. Each additional vehicle will be $10.00 per night. Quiet hours are 10p.m. to 8a.m. Porta potty service discontinued September 15 for the season.
The Mad Moose Ranch is closed for the season from October 15, 2025 and reopens for the 2026 season May 15 2026.

This is one of my favorite places that we have stayed.
Between the sauna, bathroom and peaceful setting- this is luxury!
Communication with the host was punctual and comfortable. They were very friendly and helpful.
The directions were clear and specific which is helpful when pulling a camper.
I’m already planning our next stay!

We had a wonderful time at this quiet little Hipcamp spot in the woods! Everything is so thoughtfully laid out, amenities and activities available for rent, fun scavenger hunts for the kids, a cute little dock on Mirror Lake and only a couple minute drive down to Telache Landing, which has crystal clear water and great swimming & fishing. The site (C) was easy to get into and peaceful! Would definitely stay here again. 🌟

My family recently stayed at this lovely hipcamp for our first time, and it did not disappoint! My husband, myself, and my two daughters (aged 7 and 13) spent five days and four nights there with our camper and boat. The sites are spacious and located just across the small "road" from the lake. We were able to launch our boat just across the bay and keep it at the dock located right at our site. There is a small rocky beach area, complete with firepit, where we stored our paddleboards when they weren't in use. Our girls were able to paddleboard right there in the semi-quiet bay without any trouble. We had sewer, water, and electric hook-ups, with plenty of water pressure. The hosts were beyond compare! They were in the home, which is on-site, but didn't make us feel at all as if we were sharing a space. Turns out that the husband, Rick, is very knowledgeable about boats, and he didn't hesitate to jump in the water and look at my boat when my husband was having some trouble with a small leak on our boat. He was an absolute lifesaver! His wife, Tammy, was kind and nice to talk to. She and Rick are super familiar with the area and gave us ideas for where to eat and where to explore. We all agreed that we will be booking again next year!

Loved this spot! It’s the perfect location for exploring the area and relaxing in the evenings. Everything was clean, private, and quiet. The bathroom, sauna, and hot tub/cold plunge were fantastic amenities, and the homemade cookies waiting for us upon arrival were such a thoughtful and delicious touch! We had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back to the Relaxation Station!

Very private and quiet camp spot. Our group had all 3 spots. You do have to walk down stairs or a steep gravel road to get down to the water but it is worth it. Always wanted to try a paddle board. They have 2 along with kayaks, chairs around a fire pit when there isn't a burn ban, bar area with fridge and a dock.

This was the perfect location for our trip to Sandpoint. It's only a ten minute drive to town with all of the shops and restaurants; yet still remote enough to provide a peaceful, private, wooded setting. There is enough space between sites to maintain privacy and a large area by the picnic table (much larger than a typical campsite). Our golden retriever loved to lay in the creek to cool off. We stayed for a month and felt like it was our home away from home. We would highly recommend this site.
