It's a beautiful campsite on a lake, with horses roaming freely. "Retreat" is a bit of a stretch, it's a lovely spot let down by a couple of things.
Pro's:
- Beautiful setting
- Lovely horses
- a couple of kayaks available for use (although we didn't have time)
Con's:
- The toilet is a few minutes walk away from the campsite and in the back of a messy farmers shed, it was a bit gross
- No potable water offered despite being listed as such
- The route to the site is through the farmers poorly maintained horse yard, which is covered in scrap metal and various aged, rusty projects and dilapidated sheds, giving an an unwelcoming feel.
- The site is very uneven, although there are a handful of flat spots.
- It wasn't easy to find, the Google maps location took us to a property 500m up the road, double check with the owner!
Overall, I don't feel its worth the $50 we paid, given the facilities and entrance. A bit of love to the yard could go a long way and we would happily pay $70+ if the above was remidied. Wouldn't recommend unless you were fully self contained.
