Convenient creek side campsite in the heart of Appalachia. Views of Bluff Mtn, Phoenix Mtn, Buffalo Creek, and a peaceful meadow. Less than a 10 minute drive to downtown West Jefferson and Lansing, NC. This site is within partial view of a mildly trafficked road. Variety of activities nearby for lovers of the outdoors and lovers of mountain town vibes, coffee shops, art galleries, good food, live music, winery, breweries, and Molley Chomper Cidery. This site is 10 minutes to the New River for kayaking, 35 minutes to Grayson Highlands for more rugged trails and backpacking, 40 minutes to Boone, NC and the Blue Ridge Parkway. This camp site can be used for tent camping or a camper/RV. There is access to electricity hookup and water hookup. There is also a stand alone enclosed bathroom on the camp site that includes a shower, a sink and a toilet with full plumbing for your convenience. *Newly added shower for camper's use as well :) * *Please note this camp site is within partial view of a road that has mild/moderate traffic in the mornings and evenings. My house is on the other side of the barn so you may see me and my vehicle from time to time as well. :)* The property has been home to my family for many decades, as I am an 6th generation native of Ashe County. This is truly one of the coolest corners of NC. I am happy to give recommendations on things to do in the area. Come make yourself at home for several nights, or have a safe and beautiful spot to pitch your tent or park on your way through the area!Pitch your tent or pull in your RV/camper to this beautiful and easily accessible site in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains! This property is creekside and offers views of multiple mountains including Phoenix and the Bluff. We have a fire pit for your use as well as a bathroom with a toilet and sink with full plumbing. There are also electric, sewer, and water hookups and a spring water spigot for filling up canteens. At this site you will hear the running creek, see cows, deer, and an occasional barn cat. There is a private and quiet feeling at this site, but please note you are still in partial view of the road and my house which is on the property. I am an 6th generation native of Ashe county and this property has been cared for by my family for years, now we want to share the beauty of our home with others. At this site you feel very secluded and out in the “sticks” but the road is well maintained and you are only a 10 minute drive to downtown West Jefferson and Lansing NC which both offer art galleries, live music, coffee shops, breweries, a cidery and a brand new winery! Take a 10-15 minute drive for launching to kayak the New River. You are also about 35 minutes from Grayson Highlands State Park to the north which offers more rugged hiking/backpacking trails and wild ponies, or 35 minutes to Boone NC and the Blue Ridge Parkway to the southwest for a scenic drive and access to Grandfather Mountain. If you want to venture out further, we are about an hour to Damascus, VA and the Virginia Creeper Trail for biking. This well maintained site can be your base camp for exploring all this beautiful mountain town and the surrounding area has to offer, with rich Appalachian culture and something for every camper in the coolest corner of NC!

Convenient campsite with amenities

We had a GREAT weekend! This site is new to Hipcamp so we are sharing lots of details. Perks - sunrise was beautiful. We were going with some first-time campers and the toilet, sink and shower were convenient and made things easy. We enjoyed nearby hikes including Three Top and Mt Jefferson State Natural Area. The creek was fun both for a place to cool down and looking for crawdads. There is a large gravel lot that the kids played sports in. Important to know - the site is close to the road, so noise from vehicular traffic is present. House is mostly blocked by a large barn, but there are glimpses of it from a few spots in the site. A bright street light came on at dark which made it harder to appreciate the stars and made the fire pit feel less secluded - though made walking around the camp site easier! The owner stopped by to get some things from the working farm and was very friendly.

We had a great time despite a brief shower. The bathroom was great to have close by. Site was a little closer to the road than we'd hoped for but all in all, it was a good time.

Buffalo Creek Camp

Bucolic setting. We enjoyed watching the cows, deer, wild turkeys, bluebirds, and the incredible firefly display in the evening. The bathroom was clean and the scented rose in a vase was a nice touch. Short drive to West Jefferson.
