Hi there. Here is a little rundown of everything we do at the mill…. So, as far as camping, there are two main options on either side of the river; the mill yard or primitive camping across the river. In the mill yard, we do festival style camping, meaning that there are no individual campsites per se, but rather a large grassy lawn near the mill and bathhouse with shared fire pits, picnic tables, charcoal grill, and sinks for water/dishes. We also have two platforms up in the woods that are good for a little more privacy and are completely shaded, but do require a small climb up the hill. The bathhouse has three restrooms and hot showers in each. Across the river, there are several more primitive sites that are generally very private and offer great sounds coming from the river and waterfall, but no facilities. Most sites are car accessible, and a 5 minute walk back over to the mill (or a 1 minute drive). Lastly, our newest camping spot on the primitive side is a river front beach right by the dam with space for a several medium sized tents and a private fire pit. The beach is hike-in only (2-3 minutes along a mostly flat trail). Our normal rate is $10 per person per night. Firewood is available for $10 per wheelbarrow load. We accept cash, credit card, Venmo, Paypal, and crypto. We are also fairly flexible on check in/check out times, but just let us know if you’ll be arriving at odd hours. Dogs are generally welcome as long as they are kept on leash. Here is a little rundown of tubing at the mill (May-October, weather permitting). We have two tubing options available. We have a short Fun Run that takes roughly 45 minutes, and cost $10 per person for as many rides as you’d like. The river bends sharply like a horseshoe in this section, so it makes everything accessible by foot traffic. It’s a 3 minute walk up the trail to the dam, put in and float 30-45 minutes (depending on water level), then a 5-10 minute walk back to the mill carrying your tube. There is also the longer Forks Run, which last 3-4 hours (~2.5 river miles), and costs $15. For this, we shuttle you up the river in a vehicle, and you float back to the top of the dam, then 3 minutes walking back to the mill. Most weekends, tubing starts at 11 am and the last Forks Shuttle is around 3 pm, with the Fun Run staying open till around 5. Also, with enough heads up, we can sometimes arrange for trips during the week. Our tubes are required for each person floating for insurance and liability reasons, but you are welcome to bring your own cooler tubes to carry drinks and snacks. Technically, alcohol is not permitted on the river, but what is in your cooler is your business. Either way, please bring ALL trash out with you! Water shoes are recommended, and we have life jackets on request. Most of our tubes come with bottoms and back rests, but a few are open to the water. Most weekends, reservations are not required, but it does help tremendously if we know when you want to come and how many in your group. Brand new private riverfront beach just below the historic dam. Space for several medium sized tents, or a couple larger tents. Plenty of both shade and sun, easy access to the river, private fire pit, and the soothing sound of the river falling over the dam. Hike-in only (2 minutes from parking).

Falls Camp

Falls camp is on the primitive side of the river from the mill and bathhouse, and offers the best privacy, full shade, and ambient river sounds. There are several flat camping pads at the edge of the forest for tents, hammocks, or small campers, and a large private fire pit just below. The river and dam can be reached on foot down a nearby trail. This site is car accessible and a one minute drive (or 5 minute walk) back over to the mill.

Woods Camp

Woods camp is on the primitive side of the river from the mill and bathhouse. The site is tucked in the forest for privacy and shade, has a private fire pit, and is great for medium sized groups. The river is accessible on foot down a nearby trail. The site is car accessible and a one minute drive (or 5 minute walk) back over to the mill.

Car camping at Matthew’s spot was a safe and great experience. The communication before arrival was on point. Upon getting to the site, being greeted by the cheery string lights was warm and welcoming. Waking up nothing but the sounds of nature around had me at ease, and ready to tackle another long day of driving! Highly recommend for a quiet and pretty getaway camp site.

I had a great weekend camping and wandering around Jessup Mill. Matthew was great to communicate with in booking and while there. It's a beautiful area where the rolling foothills meet the Piedmont, and you'll have a great time walking up the river into the neighboring NC game lands. As described, there is no cell service, but the mill area has wifi, so you can check messages from time to time. From the primitive area of the camp, it's a short walk to the mill, but you do need to cross a local road bridge. Some cars come around the turn fast, so be sure to have reflective gear, or a good flash light to make yourself visible in the evening when walking to the bath house. One thing to note is there are limited, level areas for those with a roof tent. Luckily there were slabs of milled wood by the fire pit to utilize for leveling. Be sure you have something to level your vehicle out just in case though.

My daughter and I had a great trip to Jessup’s Mill. We stayed in the Mill Yard and everything was exactly as described. The campground was well maintained, bathrooms were clean and easy to access, and the firewood was readily available. We were able to get away and have a great time just enjoying the outdoors!

I really loved staying at Matthew’s property. It was secluded, clean, quiet, and beautifully maintained. The privacy and peacefulness made it a perfect getaway. Plus, the location is a close drive to the parks and hikes. I’ll definitely be back and will bring friends too. Highly recommend it to anyone.

I tent camped at the Wood camp and it was a nice spacious area. Everything was well kept, the bathrooms were clean. I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely book again. Matthew responded quickly in communication for the booking and other questions that I asked.

Our family loved camping on the beach overlooking the river. The walk in was short - and the wheelbarrow near the parking area was so helpful for schlepping our stuff. We enjoyed the soothing sound of the waterfall just upstream, and the kids kept busy playing in the river and sand. We went tubing the first afternoon, basically from our campsite - so fun! Appreciated the bathrooms not too far away. Great experience!

Jessup Mill is a beautiful peaceful property located on the Dan River. I've stayed in Woods Camp and Falls Camp. Both were lovely. Matthew is helpful good folk. The area feels very safe and private. If you're looking for an off grid place to unplug, Jessup Mill is ideal.

The perfect, grassy cutout in the woods. I had sunshine and butterflies, lots of butterflies!! I could hear the rushing sound of the falls, but the river is not visible from this area. That didn’t matter, because the feeling is the same up on the bank. It was so peaceful. The stay was super affordable, and really enjoyed the mill and the serenity of the campsite. I will go again soon!

We had the best camping trip at Jessup Mill. We stayed at the beach spot and it was absolutely perfect! It was warm enough we could swim and use the rope swing, my kids (13 and 8) had the best time. And so did our chocolate lab! One of our favorite camping trips ever! Thank you so much Matthew! We would love to come back!

We stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate my birthday and had the best time! Our campsite was right on the river with our own little private beach—it was peaceful, relaxing, and perfect for cooking out and going tubing on the river. Matthew, the owner, was super nice and very informative, which made everything even better. We really enjoyed ourselves and would absolutely love to come back again!

I had so much anxiety before the trip because I ended up take teen girls and dogs . To my surprise it was perfect . Perfect spot and perfect host . I would highly recommend anyone going here . I normally camp in Michigan and a spot like the dam beach spot would be booked for two years in advance but it was so great on the openness and the iny opinions the last minute booking I did for fourth of July weekend was great. Thank you so much for everything.

Wonderful relaxing stay. 4th of July weekend yet I saw no more than 2 people in 3 days! I thoroughly enjoyed being lulled to sleep by the sound of the Dan River flowing through the property. Thank you Matthew for a lovely long weekend. It was great to be unplugged and leisurely for the long weekend. Your property is beautiful and you are a very accommodating host.

Very quiet, secluded campground. I lucked out and was the only person in the primitive areas. There is a great trail down to the river. The river served as a nice break from the heat. The bathrooms were clean and stocked with supplies. Plenty of wood to buy if you want to do a campfire. It's a nice, quick getaway. I would definitely love to stay here in the future.
