Such a beautiful spot! Jennifer was so kind and responsive. I had issues with original booking due to my father having a bad accident and she was so kind and understanding. We ended up coming after lots of rain so the river was up and it was quite chilly but we had lots of firewood to keep warm and cook over. They were out of town but they called a friend that brought firewood right over! We will definitely be sure to come back again to enjoy some warmer days and time to fish and play in the beautiful river! Also, no idea what was going on with the full moon but we caught prob 30 crawcrabs! As soon as we thew a line out we had a crawcrab! That was a first! Hope to be back soon!

Heavenly camping on the New River

If you love the New River, and this site is available for your dates, don’t hesitate and book immediately. I’ve stayed at many campgrounds on the New and this is hands-down the best in the area. Private, quiet, open, but shaded, very easy access to the river and on the desired side with deeper water. We kayaked, tubed, swam, waded in the shallows across the river, snorkeled, fished, and laughed around the fire. This was our second visit and we will be back again in the future.
We brought a 14’ pop-up and setup a large tent. I also brought a 16’ utility trailer with gear and kayaks. I towed both trailers in with a late-model 2wd suburban. Larger trailers might have difficulty navigating the rail road crossing, so read the site specifics or contact the host with questions before committing. They are very responsive.
Be sure to bring firewood or contact the host about buying firewood, which I did. It was very convenient and more than enough for two nights.
The port-o-jon on site was very nice to have. Bring toilet paper of your own, as the provided paper was very thin. And for your own peace of mind, do what we did and bring some cleaner and paper towels for a quick wipe-down inside (for the teen girls). I, dad, wouldn’t have cared… the jon was very clean to begin with…
Again, we love this site and I thank Ronnie and Jennifer for making such a great property available. Be sure to respect it like your own, and perhaps we will all continue to be welcomed.

Beautiful spot! Jennifer (the host) was accommodating and responsive. It was peaceful and relaxing except for the occasional, very loud trains that rolled through - although the trains would not stop us from visiting again. We highly recommend staying here. Thanks, Jennifer!

Perfect spot for a sweet camping trip. I flew in so packed light and was so happy to see two hammock stands available. We spent a lot of time on the dock, kayaking, and walking up the driveway to get a little hike in. The garden is bountiful and beautifully kept. This campsite is really ideal for a chill little getaway.

I had a great brief stay -- just one night. Huge level site, very private, very quiet (except for the occasional train or motorboat). I spent much of my time there sitting in a camp chair on the dock reading and enjoying the river. I was very happy with my stay, absolutely would've stayed longer if I could.

We had a great time. The spot was spacious and right on the river. The kitchen set up was very cool and the host was super friendly. The only thing is that we were under the impression that it was very remote and private however, you can see the host home and there are other lots there that belong to other people. Still a great time and a beautiful spot. Would be a great place to rent for a family gathering and river day.

19 ft travel trailer
Just lovely. If you're prepared to go off grid you will be rewarded with an amazing riverside experience. We brought our paddleboards and our daughter used one of the provided kayaks. It was our ideal paddling day -- mostly easy with just enough adventure to keep it interesting. You could arrange a shuttle if you want to just paddle downriver, it's a lot harder coming back! Our 2nd day we biked to Pandapas Pond--also recommended!
As others note, trains when they go by are loud, but they don't whistle and they are going fast, so it doesn't last long. While we were there we saw/heard maybe 2 or 3 a day (including one at 4 am). Really not much of an issue.
Bring your hammocks! We very much enjoyed the hammock hangers, what a thoughtful touch.
The port a potty service guy came Tuesday morning around 8, just fyi.
The road to the site is steep and windy gravel, we are towing a light (2200#) 17 foot camper with our Kia EV6 4WD, and it was fine, but it took a little finesse, and we def needed the 4WD.
So glad to have discovered this place. We will be back❤️

Wonderful location and welcoming hosts!! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! There were kayaks and canoes available, along with a great firepit and outside tables available. They also provide a clean portajohn.
We have a crazy dog, so the trains were a bit too loud for him, but not for us. The location and hospitality were worth the noise.
Sorry for the delayed review- we went straight from the New River to the mountains and had no signal until today.

This spot is very idyllic - calm river, large beautiful trees. It was perfect for quiet relaxing and reading by the river. I loved the dock and spent most of my time there. I'd highly recommend it and really hope that I can make it back in the near future. Very grateful that they are willing to share that slice of heaven with others!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our time here! The area was nice and quiet and out of the way. Camping on the New River was about as relaxing as you could get. The hosts are very nice as well. We even were able to see a couple of otters running on the lad back into the water. Highly recommend this spot for a quiet getaway!

We loved camping at this spot! The views were beautiful, there was plenty of room to set up everything we needed with plenty room to spare to play baseball and football with our kiddos. The bathroom was so clean, the spot was so peaceful and Ronnie came to greet us upon arrival. We will definitely be back!

The campsite is incredible! It has a great table and TWO charcoal grills!!! The fire pit is fabulous, the grate swivels instead of flips so it’s really easy to cook food! The dock was so fun to enjoy and we can’t wait to come back in the spring when it’s warmer!!

This was a great spot to set up for the weekend. Ample, flat space. The stand up bar was extremely useful and well thought out. The fire pit was a great size. We let the hosts know ahead of time that we were interested in purchasing firewood and they had it waiting for us, and they covered it from the weather. Port-a-potty close by and it was what you’d expect, well stocked with TP and hand sanitizer. The river view was awesome and there was so much wildlife to see, and we were lucky enough to spot an otter. Recommend!
Worth noting:
-the drive down to the site is steep and a mix of gravel and pavement and finishing in grass, there is lots of hipcamp signage but heads up
-the train tracks are active and close
