This was a great spot to set up for the weekend. Ample, flat space. The stand up bar was extremely useful and well thought out. The fire pit was a great size. We let the hosts know ahead of time that we were interested in purchasing firewood and they had it waiting for us, and they covered it from the weather. Port-a-potty close by and it was what you’d expect, well stocked with TP and hand sanitizer. The river view was awesome and there was so much wildlife to see, and we were lucky enough to spot an otter. Recommend!
Worth noting:
-the drive down to the site is steep and a mix of gravel and pavement and finishing in grass, there is lots of hipcamp signage but heads up
-the train tracks are active and close

This was our first time using Hipcamp. Family of 4 + 2 dogs, Thursday and Friday night = $267.52
We are not frequent campers but this is the best outfitted tent site we have been to. There were plenty of tables, and 3 fire or coal grills. The portapotty was a very nice options.
The access to the river was an exceptional bonus. Our boys enjoyed playing in the river even though it was a little chilly it kept them entertained.
Ronnie delivering firewood is shut and amazing benefit. Ronnie, I hope you guys get that trip to Alaska soon.
This is no reflection on the owners but the first night the rain passed by about 7 times and the 2nd night only 4 times.
It didn’t bother the heavy sleepers but if your a light sleeper it might make it difficult, but being a peaceful site there is plenty of time for naps during the day.
Thank you Ronnie and Jennifer for being amazing host.

This was a great place to car camp and or tent camp. Lots of flat grass to tent on and a porta potty close by. Right next to the water and didn’t mind the train sound at night. The driveway is steep and curvy and my front wheel drive car had a hard time getting back up due to loose gravel but made it up. Beautiful place and recommend on checking it out.

What a special place! Camp The New River, Blacksburg, VA, was the perfect stopover on our way to northern WV for a weekend festival. The space is huge, clean, convenient, and absolutely beautiful. The only noises we heard were boats on the river, waterfowl, and the occasional train (which I loved!). We're already talking about booking it again for a longer stay. Our communication with Jennifer was minimal, but I feel like they would be available for any questions or needs. You won't regret booking this spot!

We had such a wonderful stay! It was so peaceful and private- just a great getaway. We really appreciated all the amenities of the grill and built in prep counter and the fire ring. We will definitely be back!

This place is gorgeous. Ronnie & Jennifer were great hosts - very welcoming and easy to reach.
The only negative were the trains passing by in the night.

It’s not just a camping site. It’s a beautiful venue!
It is wonderful for a couple who wants a romantic getaway. It is perfect for a family! There is a plenty of privacy and a lot of room for anything you like while you’re camping .
The camping site is equipped beautifully. They have quite a few barbecue grills wonderful counters for kitchen equipment, and storage.
The lawn kept in perfect condition. You can literally walk barefoot for relaxation!!!
They have a great tidy bathroom. But if you want to have a shower, the portable shower sold on Internet and its very ship. All you have to do just to get it and I have at least 5 gallons of water. We showered every day, no problem!
I disagree with those who said that there is no privacy. The camping site is quite private and perfect for anyone who wants a plenty of it. We definitely will come back.
If you were a kayaker who wants to explore a new destination spot - is for you!! if you just a lazy camper who wants to be left alone, the camping site just gives you that!
Jennifer and Ronnie went out of the way to make it beautiful and to make it great for your vacation. We will be back for sure. We have a plenty of experience in camping and kayaking. This is the best spot ever. Thank you!

An amazing getaway with a plenty of space, and unforgettable picturesque New River view. The lawn is beautifully kept. We also liked the fact that Ronnie and Jennifer have a few barbecue spots and kitchen storage tables. Picnic table is brand new and very comfortable. Everything is well thought of.
We totally disagree with people who mentioned that there is no privacy. In contrary, the spot is quite private and perfect for either family vacation or a romantic. weekend for two.
If you bring your own kayaks, you up to wonderful adventure up and down the river. There is a plenty of wildlife! We encountered beavers, Blue Heron, squirrel, deer.
The site is equipped with a tidy bathroom. But if you want to have a shower, they have a plenty of travel showers now on the Internet. Just bring at least 5 gallons of water, no problem.
We will come back for sure for great outdoors and relaxation.

We loved the two nights we camped at The Camp New River. It was the most beautiful campsite we ever visited. The hosts were very responsive and welcoming. It’s was a perfect site for our visit to Virginia Tech. The site was enormous! The grounds were immaculate and spacious. The dock was so nice to fish from and take a dip in the river. The porta potty was a nice touch and very clean. We also loved our chat with Ronnie and learning about the hipcamp. Both my husband and son loved seeing the train come through and did not find it disturbing at all. It was a unique experience. We would love to visit again.

We loved camping out on the river, with the great views and kindness of Jennifer and Ronnie we had an amazing evening creating memories to last a lifetime. Our dogs freely roamed being able to enjoy the water and fire with us. Will 100% be back.

We loved our experience camping here! Hosts are very kind and thoughtful. I love that the camping and swimming area are shaded for the majority of the day. Great swimming for kids! 🎉🎉 Loved it all so much and we will be back!

A great spot with plenty of clean tent space and nice view of the River. I the little dock was also great to have! Also almost no bugs and a nice breeze when we were there. Decent cell reception also (Att&t) Owner was super nice, responded quickly and provided plenty of firewood. The nearby morning train was a little loud (haha) but we didn’t mind and needed to get up anyway :)

Amazing wildlife. Super cute little setup. It was slightly less private than we were expecting. The boat ramp next to the camping site was rather active. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would come again.

The site was beautiful and Ronnie and Jennifer were so incredibly nice! The site is private, right on the water, the bar is perfect to set up on, and you have your own dock. Make sure to bring a fishing pole! I can’t wait to go back!

This was an incredible spot and I will absolutely be returning. The hosts are so accommodating and even came to jump my car at 8pm when the battery died. The land is beautiful and I felt very safe there and well taken care of. Can’t wait to go back this is my new favorite spot!

Beautiful, serene spot with tons of wildlife and great fishing. The amenities were more than expected, making the stay super comfortable. We even received a refund due to bad weather on our last day — such a thoughtful and unexpected gesture. Highly recommend for a relaxing nature escape while still being close enough to town!
