We are just 5 min from River Hill Distillery, 7 min drive to Luray Caverns. 20 min drive to Shenandoah National Park…lots of hiking, fishing, boating, horseback riding, and civil war museums in the area.
I purchased this property in 2013 ---my Uncle Abe Kibler and Aunt Lizzie Good Kibler owned and operated a tavern across the road for years and rented river lots to their guests---in time this 265 acre spread was sold and divided to many. I am grateful to have a little piece of the Rock Tavern History back in the family. I have so many fond memories of floating the river with my family while growing up and I love sharing this experience with others while offering families the opportunity to create lasting memories!

Camp Cove Creek is located in rural Faber, Virginia which is 20 minutes from Charlottesville in beautiful Nelson County. In addition to the many natural features like the Blue Ridge Parkway, Appalachian Trail and the James River, Nelson is home to Wintergreen Resort and Oakridge Estate and hosts events such as the Lok'n Festival, Camp Jeep, and Overland Expo.
Camp Cove Creek was part of my grandparent's Waveland Farm. Originally situated on over 600 acres, the brick antebellum house across the hill was used as a hospital in the Civil War. The camp used to be a horse and cattle farm as well as a flea market and airport with grass airstrip when my mom owned the land. Our vegetable garden was by the swimming hole. The airstrip still maintained as such in order to offer aviation-accessible camping. It is s the future home of Faber Christmas tree farm and features several notable antique vehicles rusting in peace. Some models are of the same make and model featured on TV and film.
Camp Cove Creek is easily accessible via Rt 29 and Rt 6 east (Irish Road). Our property sits at the confluence of Bear and Cove Creeks where wading/hiking/tubing is permitted and encouraged (with water shoes). We are continually trying to improve the site by removing old barbed wire, poison ivy, roadside trash, and invasive plant species in addition to planting Christmas Trees, raising 3 kids, and working 2 full time jobs so please forgive our works in progress!
This is your 30-acre camping playground! Licensed off-road vehicles, ADV and Dual-sport motorcycles, horses, personal electric vehicles and EVEN PRIVATE PLANES are welcomed! Camp anywhere along it or the creeks bordering it. We encourage walking the route first as it has intentionally been left primitive to provide more of an authentic and fun getaway adventure. Overlanding does tend to scratch paint so enter at your own risk! There is a Volleyball Net and Horseshoe set for use as well.
Nearby in the soapstone mining town of Schuyler you can visit the home place of Earl Hamner, best known for his creation of The Waltons TV show. While you're there check out the Waltons Mountain Museum, which happens to be my old elementary school and my parent's former high school. The Rockfish River dam and quarry gardens are really cool too!

Our homestead is located up a steep gravel road and though the property is secluded, the cabin is near the main house. Be aware there are snakes and spiders; creepy crawlers of all types. We are a chemical free property, please don’t bring toxins onto the site (this includes chemical bug sprays). We’ll help remove critters as needed. Elevation 1200ft; we’re 1/4 mile from Shenandoah National Park. Guided hikes and farm tours available (for a fee) if interested! My husband and I first lived on this property shortly after marrying 17 yrs ago, we moved to AK and back in 2013 and have been building our homestead from the ground up ever since. We love this mountain and consider our home a Beautiful Magical Place! We daily connect with the glorious natural elements surrounding us and give thanks constantly. We’ve learned a lot over the years about living with The Land and want to share this space with like-minded others. We tend to “rise with the Sun, and sleep when it’s done”, so don’t be surprised if you see David or myself, or our kids playing/working on site. If you like to chat, we’re usually available, if you like your privacy, we respect that too. There are a handful of neighbors, and sometimes cars travel up or down the road, but generally this is a quiet, peaceful area. Our two old time scotch collies keep most wildlife away, but once in a while you get a glimpse of turkey, or hawks, rabbits, etc…. Hiking and exploring the woods is welcome, but don’t stray to the neighbors
We recently acquired a rare chicken breed, Scots Dumpies, and are trying to increase the flock, so there may be a chance to see baby chicks. The Stars do their thing on clear nights and are an amazing sight with the near zero light pollution. We love to view the stars and Moon in all her phases.
We try to keep your need to bring much to a minimum, so we provide plenty of blankets and pillows ( or sleeping bag if desired), dishes and some cookware for over-the-fire meals, towels and wash cloths if a rain barrel “cat bath” is in order :), hand soap and toilet paper too!
Life is in constant fluctuation up here at our mountain home, which is how we like it! Camp out with us and see why!

We were looking for a small place for a short getaway near the Shenedoah Valley. This was perfect! The little cabin had a futon and a top bunk bed. There was a chest beside the bed that had extra blankets and also doubled as a table. A small fire burning stove sat in the corner for warmth and cooking adjacent to a rocking chair and there was a cabinet with extra bedding. The beds were already made and included pullows. There was an area rug down to keep feet warm.
Outside was a fire pit for the cabin and just down the hill was a large community fire pit. The bathroom (in a seperate shed) was a small hand made toilet with a wood shaving bucket to cover waste (I actually prferred this to the typical porta potty as they smell awful). This toilet was well maintained. We brought our own drinking water, but they will provide for you upon request.
There is no shower, so bring your Dude Wipes if you plan on staying a bit.
This is not a place for anyone who needs alot of comforts from home or are use to staying in hotels. It is rustic! But if you can appreciate the little things, this is for you.
There are also two Collies that live there who will come visit you ro make sure you are safe ❤️. We definitely would recommend this place! Booking was easy and the owner came down to check on us to make sure we had everything we needed.

Very cool place with multiple trails through the property. We chose a spot near the bottom by the creek, it was very peaceful! My girls enjoyed finding all the bikes, sleds, and lights around the property. The nostalgic vehicles are a nice touch! We will happily return👍🏼

Quite a beautiful drive up to the top of the hill with the changing trees. Very secluded property, cabin and outhouse located at the base of the driveway with the main house just behind. Adorable porch, so so cozy and clean inside, great little woodstove.
The toilet is conveniently located in a shed and very clean. It was my friend’s first time ever camping and she happily used it! Lol.
Such a great place to unwind after a day of hiking!

The view and location was everything we were looking for when visiting luray caverns. We actually did a cold plunge in the river. It was awesome. We booked another night just because we wanted to enjoy the scenery and tranquility. The hosts were responsive. The only thing I will say is me and my girlfriend were unable to take a decent shower in the shower rooms because after a minute or so of the water running. It began to smell like sewage. So after the first night we didn’t shower or brush our teeth or anything inside the bathrooms/showers. It was a really horrible putrid smell anytime we tried to shower.

This was the second time staying Camp Cove Creek and just like the first it did not disappoint. We love hearing the cows, horses and coyotes. The creek is so peaceful, we really need to return when it’s warm and we can enjoy it more.

Fascinating place. Quiet. Took a few minutes to find a level spot, because we didn’t want to drag out the leveling blocks. Lots of acreage to explore. Had no problem finding wood for the campfire. Un-hooking the tow vehicle on site was a little tough … next time we’ll do that off site.

Wow. What an amazing mountains gateway for our family. If you’re looking for a place that isn’t crowded and makes you feel like you’re really living on the land…then this is spot. Our family really enjoyed the 4x4 driving to our spot, the property, the cows on the ridge, and the passing by trains. It was exactly what we were looking for: mountain camping without the crowds. Beautiful property! We took another campers advice and camped by the Christmas trees up on the hilltop to get the full Mountain View’s. There were only 1-2 other campers/RVs on the whole property, it was extremely peaceful and great for stargazing at night. We will be back with our dog again!
