Weekend Trip to Bears Den Campground

This was our 2nd time trip.It was fabulous to stay at Bear den and visited brewery near by which is an added treat for us.

My husband and I enjoyed our time in Broadway. High Knob was as described. Apa came to visit for a while. The bathhouse was clean and accessible. We were happy to see that our host provided an assortment of amenities for the lite travelers. Thank you Nathan for your hospitality.

Had a great experience at Bear’s Den. Very spacious with lots of nature around. Easy access to hiking trails, a magnificent overlook, and conveniently located near wineries and breweries. I probably could have been more prepared in coordinating my travel, however whenever we tracked down all the amenities we had an overall phenomenal experience.

Very beautiful piece of land. Could use some more signs to navigate to the sites easier. Portapotties were very clean. Yurt was nice and clean. Sean was very communicative and helpful. Warning that the trains are VERY loud… went by twice in the middle of the night. Other than that we loved it and will be back!

3 nights at Traveler's Meadow

Glamping at Kennedy Peak was great! Nathan was super helpful and accommodating, even though we reached out to him an hour before we needed the reservation. Nathan's land is on an uphill incline, although the Kennedy Peak plot was level. I was able to level my trailer, and the adjacent plots appeared to be level as well. The grounds were very quiet. A delightful feature was the presence of a large, frienfly family of friendly ducks.

3 nights at Stoney Creek Campground

We loved camping at this site! Andrey was the perfect host, he had our requested items (tubes and firewood) waiting at the site and he popped over to introduce himself. Andrey was very knowledgeable of the river and the surrounding areas. The bathhouse was clean and well stocked; the private bathrooms was a nice touch! The picnic tables and fire ring were in great condition. I also recommend booking a tube float through Andrey which was well organized and the tube float ended at our campsite (Bridge) - you couldn’t plan it better! The camp ground also had a playground, ping pong table and nice common areas. Will def return and happy to recommend!

This was our 3rd trip here and what a fun time! Andrey checked up on us a few times and was a great host, as always! We swam, caught some smallmouth and rock bass, and had a great time! This is now a yearly tradition!

Great location walking distance from Bear Chase Brewery! Host provides a bucket of firewood for every site, which is very generous. Vault toilet was clean and stocked. Highly recommend!

2 nights at South River Farm

Great place to stay. I feel like a yurt has been missing in my life. It’s the perfect place where you and your friends can get a few campsites then go to Shenandoah, luray caves, or the various sites in the area. I’d definitely recommend staying here.

Awesome hosts with an awesome view. Our pups love it when we find a host where they can run free. The setup for our truck and trailer were easy in and out.

6 nights at Traveler's Meadow

Excellent, quiet, private camping experience with great amenities! We loved having the luxury of good WiFi connection, electric & water hookup at our site & having a toilet, sink, & shower right next to our site with hot water & great water pressure!!! Best part was the cleanliness! Nathan kept everything very clean & restocked daily. The provided wooden spool “table” & stone fire ring was a great addition to the site as well! I had not read through the full description of High Knob site I missed that it’s made for a little Camper, not ideal for a tent. We have a large tent & it worked on the flattest part, but it’s very rocky & was not comfortable under our feet until we added more ground cloth. We luckily camped on a very hot & dry week, otherwise the tent spot would’ve likely turned into a river as it is on the downward slope of the hill. Definitely much better for a camper instead of our tent. Nathan was very generous & offered us a chance to switch campsites made for tents (if available) but we decided to stay in our spot since the weather was looking good. We loved having visits from the gaggle of geese & guardian dog! It was fun to see them each day! We visited several of the local attractions listed on Traveller’s Meadows’ suggestion list & had a blast exploring the area! The site location is just far enough from all of the super touristy places to keep it enjoyable for us but there were plenty of local places to see. We absolutely recommend Traveller’s Meadow!!!!

3 nights at Riverfront Retreat

Easy check in with clear directions for the site. Plenty of spaces, but not all are level with decent shade. Access to the river is easy at the two marked points, but definitely not anywhere else as it's way too steep/overgrown. The river is mostly shallow and slow moving, perfect for tubing or wading. Facilities were as clean as to be expected and stocked (didn't use the showers). We had the entire place to ourselves for a few days and would definitely come back.

2 nights at The Byrd's Nest on the River

The camp site is perfectly setup for fun and relaxing right on the Capacon River. Beautiful stone circle fire pit, another fire rig set up for cooking. The decks to set up tents are perfectly situated with cute party lights but don’t let them distract you from the beautiful night sky! There are lots of amenities in the shed to use!

The property has miles of trails along mountain spring-fed streams, a small pond and access to three private acres on the Robinson River, a stocked Trout stream, just 2 miles down the road. Our property is centrally located to White Oak Canyon (20 minutes) and Old Rag Mountain (10 minutes) trailheads in the Shenandoah National Park as well as many vineyards and breweries. Riverside Camping LLC offers a unique camping experience nestled along the scenic South Fork of the Shenandoah River, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, between the majestic Blue Ridge and Massanutten Mountains. Family-owned and operated since 1970, our campground invites you to immerse yourself in nature, where each season reveals the stunning landscapes of the Valley. This year, we have only six overnight sites available for rent, with most sites being seasonal in 2025. For a quieter experience, consider visiting during the week when fewer campers are present. Each site is equipped with water and 30 amp electric service (please note that we do not offer 50 amp service). If you need an adapter for a standard household plug, we can provide one upon request. While we do not have sewer hookups, a convenient dump station is available on-site. Our restrooms feature hot water showers, and we kindly ask for your assistance in keeping them clean. We regularly check and maintain these facilities to ensure a pleasant experience for all guests. Firewood is included with your site fee, but we encourage campers to be mindful of their usage. The campground is nestled into the foot of the hill and just up from the river. It’s a beautiful location, especially in the Fall with its brilliant reds and rusty oranges. The camping sites themselves however are a bit close and despite being surrounded by great nature on trails and all around, you’re a bit close to your neighbors and it can feel like suburban camping. Still, it’s close to Shenandoah and the bathrooms are great! :)
