We loved camping here, John and Mary were amazing and considerate hosts and everything was set out very thoughtfully. The platform for camping was just big enough for our 4 person tent and the compost toilet was quite clean; both were far enough from their home and with plenty of privacy, no one else nearby. The firepit/picnic table was a bit in front of their home, not as isolated as the campsite itself, but wasn't an issue at all and they were very respectful of our space (and very friendly, as were their dogs). Kayaks were a huge plus as well. Outdoor shower was perfect as well. Would absolutely stay here again!

Perfect place to setup a tent along the river on an elevated wood platform. I towed a small 5x8 trailer loaded with my motorcycle & enjoyed riding Skyline Drive which was close by. Also, I loved kayaking along the river. Will definitely be coming back. Thank you

Me and my son had a great time. Such a beautiful area. It’s so peaceful I wish I could have stayed longer. If you’re trying to get away from the crowds this is the place. Mary and John are amazing and went above and beyond. I would definitely recommend.

Mary and John were amazing hosts! They greeted us and showed us the site. It was secluded and absolutely perfect! The sounds of all the animals and the stars at night made this a perfect trip! Tons of beautiful hikes nearby. I would highly recommend staying here!

A unique camping experience right on the river. The platform was perfect for keeping the tent away from moisture and was nicely secluded down a well manicured path. Mary and John provided many amenities like a fire pit, firewood, outdoor chairs and tables and access to potable water. Recreational fishing in the river was great. It was an overall peaceful and relaxing experience.

One of my favorite campsites - ever! Don’t miss out on this. The land is simply stunning and the tent overlooks the river from a cozy (and flat!) wooden platform. Mary was so friendly and accommodating. My favorite part was using the kayaks to paddle the river!

I had a great time camping on Mary and John’s land. It was private and they allowed us to use their fire pit. The best part was being able to swim and fish right in front of our site. Will definitely be coming back!

Mary and John’s site is a perfect getaway for a night or two to unwind and find peace in nature. The location was amazing and we enjoyed being by the river and taking in the calm of the surrounding area. Mary and John were very welcoming, kind and communicative. They allowed us to borrow kayaks and really made our stay a great one. The fire pit wasn’t too far from the site and gave us the chance to do some amazing stargazing.

Lovely site right on the river, directly across from a cow farm and out of sight of the house (but close enough to feel safe). Mary and John are kind and helpful, and were sure to warn me about bad weather coming in.

This was a beautiful site situated right on the river that felt completely private. John was readily accessible for anything we needed and was friendly and helpful in recommending some local hikes. There’s a beautiful area with a fire ring, chairs, and picnic table overlooking the river that guests are welcome to use. Unfortunately we chose a rainy weekend but it didn’t dampen our spirits at this lovely location. 100% recommend!

This spot is a gem and the hosts are gracious with many other amenities. I would highly recommend this spot for 1-3 people or 2 people and a dog looking for a waterfront site for a more relaxed camping experience. "More relaxed" because the tent platform makes tent setup easy, and you don't have to worry about issues with the ground, and John and Mary have firewood and a fire pit ready for use. I'll be coming back soon.

Mary and John (and Cooper) were friendly and responsive hosts. The campsite sits right by the river in a beautiful location — we really enjoyed our overnight stay and getting to see the fall colors. Would definitely love to visit again!

Mary and John are so unbelievably welcoming. They’ve thought a lot about what campers need from the compost toilet to the outside shower. The view of the river is phenomenal and John offered to let us use kayaks. The platform is such a luxury.

We absolutely loved our stay here!! The site is private and so beautiful. I wish we had more than one night here - we would love to return. Mary & John were so incredibly welcoming & hospitable!! The platform site is perfect & we loved having the composting toilet right there. Waking up by the water was so peaceful. I highly recommend!

This site was so lovely! The hosts are incredibly kind and welcoming. It’s quiet and private and has great access to the river. The kayaks and other add ons were the cherry on top. Me and my dog had a great time exploring the area and would love to stay here again!

This is such a cute place close to Strasbug, VA (which is also a very lovely mountain town). Mary and John are wonderful and made sure we had everything we needed - down to the fire starter we forgot at home! I would highly recommend this to anyone searching for a night or full weekend stay close to Shenandoah.

This is one of the most idyllic places I’ve ever visited
The camping nook ovelooks the river which is spectacular
The stars are bright through the canopy of trees
There is a “beach” area to soak up the sun or do morning yoga
The hosts are welcoming.
There is a beautiful picnic area with lots of chairs and 2 picnic tables

Staying along the river is very peaceful. Mary and John are friendly hosts, and generous in sharing their outdoor nooks and crannies. If you are interested in kayaking, that's a possibility. The showers are a bonus!

John and Mary were spectacular hosts! Nature decided to have quite the rainy weekend but thanks to their hospitality we still had a lovely weekend!! We loved the option of hanging out on the lower deck during the downpour and the ability to shower after a few humid days. John and Mary kept us apprised of river conditions and were gracious enough to share their knowledge/concerns about E. coli potential after large rainfall. A short drive from Shenandoah National Park, we loved the privacy of the campsite compared to NP camping. We will definitely be back for sunnier days to take advantage of the gorgeous river!!
