Nice flat spot, near creek with some shade. Great overall campground. Swimming in the lake is a highlight, especially if you have kids. And the dining hall (weekends, check calendar) means you don’t need to worry about cooking, which makes this a great spur of the moment destination.

We had a really good time. The staff was super friendly and helpful, even loaning us tent pegs and offering to loan us blankets. Sean was an awesome guide.

Camping at an old summer camp!
Very close to the lake and private but no trees or shade. Buffalo Gap is a hidden Gem. They enforce quiet hours and the cafe, lake, hiking, and new spa are great fun!

Buffalo Gap was very clean and had a lot of things for campers to do. The lake had some algae in it, but nothing major. All in all it was a very good value!

Buffalo Gap "Nook" large group camp
Loved The Nook campsite!
Loved Buffalo Gap Retreat! My kids really enjoyed the kayaks and water toys available for use at the lake. The Berry picking trail was a little too steep/uneven for young kids and older folks, but perfect for seasoned hikers. We were very glad we could bring our dog, he had a blast!
We rented The Nook campsite for our family and really loved the privacy and shade from the trees! It was just a short walk to the lake, bathhouse, and dining hall. Be aware, the campsite has lots of tree roots protruding from the ground, so again, not great for young kids or older folks. We had more than one incident with someone tripping in a tree root! We also had a difficult time finding a smooth enough area to pitch our tent, the kids did not have air mattresses, just camping pads, so they were a little uncomfortable. Next time we will bring tarps to protect the tent floor from being torn by roots and maybe a rug for inside the tent to make it more comfortable.
One more thing if you are bringing young children, there is poison ivy EVERYWHERE! Of course we expected some, and there are signs warning to look out for it, but it was pretty hard to avoid at our campsite and the paths leading to other areas of the campsite. We used some large branches we found around the campsite to mark out "paths" through the campsite for our younger kids just so they didn't get too close to it, and we had to stay diligent when walking around the Retreat.

Buffalo Gap Island large group camp
Our family loves Buffalo Gap. One of our favorite camping spots.
Buffalo Gap "Nook" large group camp
I think the location of the retreat and the surrounding area is beautiful. We had the group camping site, the Nook, which was private but the brick wall surrounding the site detracted from feeling like you were out in nature. The bathrooms were a disappointment because they were either out of order or not tended too (ie out of toilet paper). We camp a lot and most of the state campgrounds we have stayed in have better bathrooms than this retreat. The food in the hall was great and we were impressed with the coffee. I think this place could be a jewel if they invest in better bathroom facilities and make their camping spots more natural. The beach house near the lake needs more amenities because it’s useless as is. The equipment is dated and very worn and it really serves no purpose.

Simple and Sweet
The resort location is great and close enough to Capon Bridge. The campsites were large, and we were the only campers Easter weekend. The variety of birds was impressive for birders. The pond is was well-stocked with fish.
We found the staff very attentive and accommodating.

Amazing campsite and service!
The reservation process, the site itself and the service were amazing. My family and friends went there in October 2021. In spite of clear forecast it was raining throughout the whole weekend and the camp offered service of dining in which was great and inexpensive.

Idyllic place to stargaze!
What a beautiful campground! I enjoyed the hiking trails and was treated to a *stunning* clear night sky. The stars were magnificent--this is definitely as good as some of the designated "dark sky parks" in terms of getting a good view of constellations. The grounds were well maintained and the staff was so friendly and helpful. I felt safe as a solo camper here. A great place for people new to camping!

Was my first time camping, so didn’t have to many expectations. It was ok! The other tents are close together. The lake was small and showers were kind of sketchy. Maybe a 5 out of 10 for me.

AWESOME PLACE
Buffalo Gap was awesome. You can easily spend an entire week there. They have a small lake feed by the river, Kaya, canoe, a paddle board, a game room, a room with a tv, lots of board games and so much more. They also have a restaurant with healthy food choices plus soda, beer and wine in case you do not wan to cook. On the down side for some, there is a lot of hills an while those who need it can drive to get to the different places in the camp, for people who can't go up and down hills it is important to know. The game room and most of the equipment can also use some love, but the place is perfect considering the owners are new. The camp is very big and the owners are supper nice. I will definitely come again with the family. For those that do not want to sleep in a tent they have cabins which look very nice
