Late August Update: Join us this weekend for a Full Moon that should be epic. The river is at its 100% peak best summer quality. Very warm and PERFECT for lounging, floating, kayaking and snorkeling (20 ft visibility or better). A few details about our sites in the general camping area: Sites 1, 3, 8,9,10,11 have 13x20 shade sails, 2,4,5,6,7 have 10x13 shade sails that are also weatherproof. For larger groups, I recommend any of the sites with the larger shade sails as they have a bit more space than the others. Enjoy the nearly direct access to the CO Canal Historic Park and the kid friendly, serene stretch of the Potomac River we border. Choose from 11 similar sites available for your camping pleasure in our clover filled bottomland as well as our Hilltop sites for maximum privacy, exclusivity and star gazing potential. The surrounding old growth forest makes for a great hiking and biking as well as a very accessible and kid friendly cave to explore. All sites now have either 10x13 or 13x20 shade sails available to keep the afternoon sun at bay: recommended. We have two kayaks on site free of charge. We have some life vests, but if you have your own, bring those along. The river's main beach located between sites 7 and 8, is shaded/filtered sun all day long while our smaller beach at site 1 is sunny most of the day and affords some of the nicest river lounging via a rock ledge that spans 4wd or All Wheel Drive are recommended. If it's been relatively dry, single wheel cars are 100% fine. We have ways to mitigate most weather events. Please pre-order firewood and/or shade sails via a message to me when booking your stay and save the 18% "booking fee" or add them via the "extras" section for your site so I can have it waiting for you. $40 buys you a long night's ++ burn worth of well-seasoned hardwood. Cash venmo paypal zelle all accepted upon arrival. If ordering firewood using the "extra" feature, 1 load is $20.00 which is a 1/2 nights supply. Order 2 if you want a full night/morning supply. I will credit unused wood with a nominal restocking fee.

Had a wonderful stay at Site 1. Excellent and spacious site. Paid for the sail shade and firewood and both were worth it, Greg really delivers! Beware the washed out road, which really does require clearance/AWD. Also note that the shade and heavy dew mean the site tends to be on the soft/muddy side of things.

Another beautiful stay at Taylor’s Landing. This time during the full moon and lunar eclipse. Climbed to the top of Hilltop for a nice view. Nothing but clouds, moonlight, warmth from the fire, and stars. Found many butterflies drinking Thistle nectar. Black and blue, orange with brown spots, yellows and black. Walked the well laid paths of the C&O canal pathway under the sycamore trees, and even found some ripe Paw-paws and a beautiful owl. Followed some deer trail down to streams and embankments and managed to see 4 doe, and later a separate pack of two bucks (3x3s from the quick glance I got). The river was higher than last time from the recent rain storms. Even got to watch some lightning. It was a lovely time. Greg and family continue to check in regularly and keep the whole site spotless. We will definitely be back again.

Great Family Camping On the River

The site owner was really great in getting in touch with me to let me know that there might be bad weather. He was extremely helpful and wanted everyone to have a great time. When they say the water on the river is warm in August they really mean it it's like bathtub warm. It is very calm even after it rained, we just sat in inner tubes and went kayaking for a couple hours. Before that we hiked down the path in the cool forest along the river. This site is great it basically has every kind of campsite you could want. Tents on top of a hill next is bring your own tent camping then down below are picnic sites next to the forest and the river. Lot of space to enjoy. The top area is easy to get to with a low car. If you had a lower car with a spoiler wouldn't go by the tents / river. Very quick easy walk from above though.

We had a great night at Taylor's Landing! The road in was very steep but doable in our rear wheel drive pickup. Two friendly cats made themselves at home with us but were never a bother. Paths to the river were also steep but we made it fine. Would definitely stay here again in the future.

10/10, will be coming back! though our stay was cut short by impending storms, the night we spent here under the stars on hilltop 2 was fantastic. Greg is an excellent, hospitable and knowledgable host. be ready to see many adorable and friendly animals on the property! beautiful walking trails, scenic river spots, clean, private site, what more could you want!

First off, Taylor’s Landing is awesome! We brought a small Scout troop who had a blast. The river and rope swing and floaties were great. The local cave (bring a flashlight!) is about 1.5mi north along the Towpath (you won’t miss it) and was cool! The campsite itself was peaceful and the train noise was faint. The firepit was brick and did not have a grill top (bring your own). You could occasionally hear people on the Towpath, but not annoyingly so. Portapots were clean and stocked with TP and hand sanitizer. The afternoon sun was warm in August (river is east, sun sets over the hill), but the sunshade was perfect. We also went to the Crystal Grottos which was pricey but worth it! But, there are a few things to know. First, there is a VERY STEEP gravel hill to get to the lower sites. My AWD truck has off-road tires and was skidding a bit. A FWD car (minivan) had a super hard time going up to exit, even when bone dry (5-6x before success). I’d hesitate to try without 4WD/AWD. And I’d be very nervous with a trailer or tow camper. But you can use the Hilltops or park on the main road and walk down. Second, to get to the Potomac itself, you scramble down the old (dry) C&O and up the other side, cross the Towpath, then scramble down very steep steps to the river. Those with mobility issues won’t make it. It’s a primitive site: bring all your own water (drinking and clean up). We will ABSOLUTELY come back, although Hilltops only unless everyone has 4WD/AWD!

The Hilltop
We stayed at the Hilltop site and really enjoyed it. So quiet! Close to the C&O tow path and an easy drive into town for coffee and a quick virtual meeting let us blend a mid-week getaway with a couple of work obligations. Greg is a fantastic host and we enjoyed chatting with him and hearing some of the history of the property. Highly recommend!

What a tucked away gem!! We had an awesome time camping here with our kids! Host was kind enough to move us to a quiet space away from other guests so we had total privacy and quiet. The site is very private. Other campsites are near you but only 1 seemed occupied besides us. The path to the C&O canal is steep and the path on the other side of it to the river is very steep but the river has a large open area for fishing, swimming and kayaking. We had a blast kayaking!! There were 2 life jackets for adults/older children and 1 puddle jumper life jacket for small children. The C&O canal is right behind the campsite but you can't see it only hear hikers every so often. There was no noise at night beside insects, it was so peaceful. Highly recommend!!

It was a little rainy the first night so he upgraded me to the hilltop site and had wood and the canopy set up prior to my arrival. He was very communicative to ensure we had everything needed to make our stay pleasant. My dog loved it as well! Would love to come back!

This trip was definitely refreshing! It was easy to locate the Hip camp by the sign on the road. Once we arrived the camp site was as expected, on the top of a hill with an amazing view. Plenty of room away from other campers. The camp site provided us with trash bags and clean porta potties. The host was very responsive and even checked to on my group to see if everything was alright! Plenty of places to walk and fish. I would highly recommend to anybody looking to do a weekend getaway! Thanks again!

This was the perfect spot for our family. We had 7 people with us, 2 adults and 5 kids aged 7 to 17 and 1 large dog. We spent 2 nights in July and the weather was warm, but not unbearable. Spot 9 was fine for us and we went to the river constantly. The river was great, it was nice and quiet at night, no road noise, nothing just seclusion! Greg, the owner, was really helpful and down to earth. I really appreciate him providing us with a 5 gallons jug of water to wash our hands. The wood was more than generous for the price paid and it lasted a long time. Loved the site loves the river, loved the stay. We will be back!

It was a very freeing amazing time and everyone helping there goes beyond and over to make sure you're thought of and cared for. I love it when you find a place that has spirit and overflowing with love and kindness. This was a very heartfelt time together. Thank you for sharing your space with all of us. There was no shortage of fun and amazing finds in nature while we were here. Btw, you have an amazing space to host conscious music festivals and gatherings at. Everyone there would truly appreciate being on the land with all of you.
