Early August Update The river is at it's 100% peak best summer quality this week. Very warm and PERFECT for lounging, floating, kayaking and snorkeling (20 ft visibility or better).
A few details about our sites in the general camping area: Sites 1, 3, 8,9,10,11 have 13x20 shade sails, 2,4,5,6,7 have 10x13 shade sails that are also weatherproof. For larger groups, I recommend any of the sites with the larger shade sails as they have a bit more space than the others.
Enjoy the nearly direct access to the CO Canal Historic Park and the kid friendly, serene stretch of the Potomac River we border. Choose from 11 similar sites available for your camping pleasure in our clover filled bottomland as well as our Hilltop sites for maximum privacy, exclusivity and star gazing potential. The surrounding old growth forest makes for a great hiking and biking as well as a very accessible and kid friendly cave to explore. All sites now have either 10x13 or 13x20 shade sails available to keep the afternoon sun at bay: recommended.
We have two kayaks on site free of charge. We have some life vests, but if you have your own, bring those along. The river's main beach located between sites 7 and 8, is shaded/filtered sun all day long while our smaller beach at site 1 is sunny most of the day and affords some of the nicest river lounging via a rock ledge that spans
4wd or All Wheel Drive are recommended. If it's been relatively dry, single wheel cars are 100% fine. We have ways to mitigate most weather events.
Please pre-order firewood and/or shade sails via a message to me when booking your stay and save the 18% "booking fee" or add them via the "extras" section for your site so I can have it waiting for you. $40 buys you a long night's ++ burn worth of well-seasoned hardwood. Cash venmo paypal zelle all accepted upon arrival. If ordering firewood using the "extra" feature, 1 load is $20.00 which is a 1/2 nights supply. Order 2 if you want a full night/morning supply. Each site is equipped with a steel fire pit/grill and a picnic table. We have been busy building hiking trails and more primitive campsites on the 14.5 acres on the hillside across the road from the riverfront for all to enjoy.

There are 300+ acres of public land less than one mile away with miles of ATV and hiking trails and stocked ponds. If you're a fan of waterfalls just 4 miles down river is Arden Falls, one of our areas best kept secrets. The Tygart Valley River is one of the top kayaking rivers in the country. Audra State Park is less than 20 minutes away with lush forest trails with caves to explore. Well known hiking trails such as Seneca Rocks, Spruce Knob, and the Dolly Sods are all within an hour drive. Go to Nelson Rocks for the ultimate climbing experience on the Via Ferrata.

Camping at Possum Holler Camp will provide you the perfect blend of solitude and recreation access. You will truly be in the heart of the New River National Park, yet still feel secluded in the beautiful woods without neighbors. You will have private access to beautiful and idyllic Mill Creek, which has many beautiful emerald pools and is even seasonally stocked with rainbow trout! Within a mile you can access the New River Gorge Bridge and the Canyon Rim Visitor Center, and you are equally close to the park's world class climbing, rafting, hiking, ziplining, and mountain biking at the New River Gorge National Park and surrounding areas. Your group will have the entire camp to yourselves, so there's no need to worry about noisy neighbors.
Our driveway has recently been revamped to include more flat parking and a less steep access route! While these improvements are great, we still caution our guests to avoid bringing large trailers and to use 4WD if available in an attempt to minimize rutting in the future.
Seasoned hardwood firewood is available on site for $6/bundle. You are allowed to bring your own firewood, but only if you source your firewood locally because invasive pest species can travel in firewood.
Possum Holler Camp is a Leave No Trace campsite, guests are asked to pack out anything they bring in and leave the area undisturbed. This includes damaging vegetation, creating new fire rings, or altering the natural area in any way. Also, please do not camp in the meadow area and only use the cleared out areas in the woods surrounding the parking and picnic/fire area for pitching tents.
If you stay below the high water line, then feel free to move as far up or downstream Mill Creek as you like. The creek is indescribably beautiful in both directions! But please keep in mind that there is private property once you are above the high water line, please do not trespass on our neighbor's property.

Want to see 5 star panoramic views of the Appalachian Mountains? This ultra-safe, ultra-private property is located only 10 minutes off interstate 77. There is only one farm past ours so road traffic is very minimal. Plenty of room to do what you and your pets want to do while exploring our 60 acres. The sun rises up behind the view and lets you see just a little further. It is nothing short of amazing. The sunrises are always different and some are the most beautiful you have ever seen. The mornings sunrise and the stars out here on a clear night are two of the best things this mountain has to offer. It will not disappoint. We can accommodate up to a 35ft RV. The best part is no long walks, you can park at the campsites and camp on flat ground. Each campsite features chairs, a bench, a swing and a camp cooktop that is fueled by your campfire. Nothing is needed to use the cook tops other than a campfire. The local area has lots to do. Several National Parks, rivers and trails. View stars as only those miles away from any light can experience. The crickets and whippoorwills will sing you to sleep. Google link, trail map, and campsite location map will be emailed the day before arrival. The onsite Porta John is cleaned on the 15th every month.

2 nights at Casita Of LOVE (Panhandle WV)
Staying at Pablo and Lorena's Invisible Love House was the highlight of my summer! My partner and I spent two nights here and left feeling rejuvenated and incredibly relaxed. Pablo was incredibly kind and dropped us off at a spot with kayaks to spend a few hours on the river. We were delayed in getting back (no service on the river meant that we couldn't message him and let him know) and he was there ready for us when we arrived. I appreciate the time he took out of his day to make sure we had the best stay possible. The cabin was cozy, clean, and had everything we could need! There was a huge thunderstorm one of the nights we were there and watching it from the inside of the cabin was so magical. I cannot recommend this place enough:)

My friends and I have stayed here twice in the last 4 years. Both times we really enjoyed it! The host is friendly and stopped by to say hi! There is a nice bathroom, the site is right by the river, and has some nice tree cover! You are pretty close to your neighbors but with the tree cover and river sounds it’s not too noisy. All in all 100% recommend!

We had a decent size group (16 people). We also had 3 dogs. This site was a great size. Plenty of room; even if we had more people in our group. Easy access to the river. Shallow to get in, and deeper as you go out.
The only thing that caught us off guard was the "private bath house". We just didn't realize it was "one bathroom" (one toilet, one shower). But it worked for us, and wasn't bad!
It was nice to have the little convenience store with food available.
10/10 our whole group said we would stay here again!

Jason’s site was the perfect long weekend spot for us and he was such a gracious host. My brother absolutely loved being right on the river to be able to cast off in the mornings and evenings, as did my pup who is half beaver, half whale. We all spent ample time in the water. The train tracks are directly across the river, so we were able to hear and see them go by. Dinners were grilled and eaten by the campfire. It rained the last night we were there, so we moved our gear under the covered area, which kept us dry through the night. Highly recommend Jason and his oasis!

7 nights at Casita Of LOVE (Panhandle WV)
We had a wonderful stay at the invisible house on Pablo and Lorena's property! It is secluded and serene but Pablo and Lorena always responded super quickly and were SO friendly and helpful whenever I had a question. You're set up on a hill a little ways back from their house, so you have plenty of privacy. We wound up spending a lot of time at the cabin just hanging out, having fires, lounging in the chairs on the back porch. The invisible house gets hot during the day in late July, but the large fan actually keeps it super cool at night and the beds are comfortable. I got some of the best sleep of my life here.
The private river access is a few minute drive or 15-20 minute walk away and wow, it is beautiful there. Perfectly clear water, great for swimming and would be nice for kids as it doesn't get too deep until you're out quite a ways. Went fishing at the public river access up the way and caught several sunnies and smallmouth. Nearby Prospect Peak and the overlook in Cacapon state park are breathtaking. Tons of fun stuff to do in Berkeley Springs, Fairfax coffee house and the massive cat cafe absolutely rock.
I can't say enough good things about this place and our hosts. If you're looking at this place thinking about booking, do it! You won't regret it.

Would recommend in general, even though our stay was accidental as we thought we reserved the hosts’ OTHER rental! Be prepared that you are actually staying in a treehouse originally built for kids and now used as a rental. We slept very soundly to the music of raw nature!

What a tucked away gem!! We had an awesome time camping here with our kids! Host was kind enough to move us to a quiet space away from other guests so we had total privacy and quiet. The site is very private. Other campsites are near you but only 1 seemed occupied besides us. The path to the C&O canal is steep and the path on the other side of it to the river is very steep but the river has a large open area for fishing, swimming and kayaking. We had a blast kayaking!! There were 2 life jackets for adults/older children and 1 puddle jumper life jacket for small children.
The C&O canal is right behind the campsite but you can't see it only hear hikers every so often. There was no noise at night beside insects, it was so peaceful. Highly recommend!!
