Fantastic campsite with AWESOME views! They have all the basic needs available. Water spigot was at the top of the hill but easy to get to on your way in or out, porta john was clean and well maintained. Each campsite had a great fire pit with varied seating (my campsite had a swing bench chair, others Adirondacks etc) and most had some type of table (picnic table usually). Firewood was available as needed beside the porta john. There are multiple campsites available with all being neatly separated just enough for privacy/noise. Had another group of campers stop in for a night while I was there and never heard a thing from them when I could see their RTT about 50 yds away. Hosts were super helpful and very responsive. Directions were clear and easy to navigate. Will absolutely be back!!
Absolutely gorgeous and quiet spot. I specifically woke up for the sunrise and it was as pretty as promised! I like the addition of numbered spots for the future. I already plan to come back!
The views at this campsite were amazing and the campsite also offered lots of privacy as we were the only campers there. Or at least you were the only campers I saw. Unfortunately, there was some kind of bird that kept making loud noises all night, which made it difficult for us to sleep, and I felt like the on-site exploration of the property was a little bit limited overall though it was a good experience and I would consider going back.
Stunning views, sites are far enough apart that you feel VERY private. Host Tony was super easy to communicate with. The sunrise was spectacular! We will certainly be back!
Pictures really can’t do this site justice. My boyfriend and I came for memorial weekend and a romantic getaway and it was everything we hoped for and more! Very well maintained and as advertised.. Tony was a great host with prompt replies throughout.. the stunning views convinced us not to leave for an entire day just to enjoy the views from our spot. We will definitely be back!
The Mountain Top Retreat is amazing and would recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in the area. It exceeded our expectations in terms of privacy and tranquility. Highly recommend!
My mother had a medical emergency and Tony allowed us to reschedule a couple weeks later. He did not have to do this as we were past the deadline to cancel. Great host.
Wow!!! Our first Hipcamp booking and our inaugural trip in our converted shuttle bus. We picked Mountain Top Retreat Camping because it was on our way to our destination. We hit the jackpot, but we may be disappointed from this point out. This place was magical. Tony was so nice and easy to communicate with. He supplied us with a bag of firewood and Nature supplied us with a beautiful sunset. The views from our campsite were amazing. You can’t pick a bad spot on this beautiful property. We wish we had more time to explore the 60 acres. We will when we return and stay for a longer period. The campsite had everything you need, a fire pit, a picnic table, a grate to cook over the fire, a couples chair swing, and again the most beautiful views of West Virginia. The campsite was spotless, I hope everyone will keep them that way. The location is super convenient for travelers, less than 10 minutes off the highway. Thank You to our hosts!
We rolled in late in our campervan to sleep for the night! Tony was amazing helping answer questions despite it being later than probably normal check in. We woke up to the most beautiful views 😍😍. Would for sure stay here again. Be sure to wait for his google maps link and directions. Hipcamp took us to wrong location first.
Outstanding cabin. Has everything you could need - clean, modern, spacious, and comfortable. The view is great, and the location is great - and quiet. Tony was very responsive to questions. Highly recommended. I can't see how anyone could be disappointed by staying here.
Really enjoyed our stay here. It was awesome that the hosts let us camp even with a foot of fresh snow and tracks in the snow guided the way. We’ll be back!
The cabin and views were awesome. The weather cleared and enjoyed the morning sunrise. Tony was helpful and responsive. Plus no worries with access even in snowy weather
I didn’t quite get the scenic view but it was a quick stop for my annual trip up north. I have stayed at a few hipcamps in my time, and this definitely was a great one! I came in when it was dark, a lot of snow and using the link Tony sent in the message it was very easy to find! Was tired after a lot of traveling but was setup perfectly for arrival and I appreciate that a lot! Oh, and the views were still really nice!
Will definitely be back! Tony was fantastic and accommodating to us on our cross country road trip. Instructions were clear and we were able to find the location in the dark at midnight. Camping is first come, first serve. We were the only ones out there and were lucky enough to get site 104, which has been recommended by many others. I agree, it’s a gorgeous view! I only wish we would have arrived earlier to spend more time there.
Mountaintop was such a fun and relaxing getaway. The property is easily accessible and had plenty of space for our group, I would highly recommend it to anyone staying in the area!
Awesome campsite. Beautiful and secluded. The spots are huge and varied. And I LOVED that the host gave us information ahead but then left us alone when we arrived. Too many hosts want to socialize and check in. I really appreciated the laid-back approach here.
The views were amazing! The fire pit and picnic table were a great bonus. Directions were clear and it was easy to buy the bags of wood.
The only downside was the porta-potty…it was filthy, had no toilet paper, and no sanitizer.
Incredible views of the sunrise. Clean porta-potty! Rugged terrain off the roads but there is a short but entertaining Mushroom Trail to explore. Close to New River Gorge NP.
Very nice place. Hosts thought of everything they could do to make it a convenient, well sorted location. Our site was nice and secluded, but tucked into the brush a bit...we liked that quiet a bit. There are others with "better views", but they're more out in the open and will have more traffic and fellow campers around. Overall, we enjoyed our 4 days/3 nights. Nice are with plenty to do, by the way.
First hipcamp campsite. We got one of the campsites overlooking the valley. The views were out of this world. Saw the sunrise out of our tent door. The views single handled made this the best camp site I have stayed at. The host provided all the relevant info prior to us getting there it was a smooth experience. Would definitely go back.
We were honestly blown away by the views. The photos didn’t do them justice. We got really lucky and picked a clear night and were able to catch the northern lights. If you get the chance to snag it, campsite 104 has the most amazing view in our opinion. It also wasn’t a terrible distance from the porta-potty. The hosts were super informative and spelled everything out for us. We even made friends with a sweet dog that would visit us in the morning, he did make it away with a bar of our soap though lol. We will absolutely be back 🩷
The directions were great and the host responds back super quick. We got there around 6pm on a Thursday and there is really only 2 sites that are pull up, great view ready. I wish we could of booked a site instead of it being first come first serve but we were very happy with the firepit, firewood accessibility (1st bag was free because we booked in advance so that was nice), the flat sites, and there is a bench at some of the sites and a full picnic table at others. We ended up seeing the Northern lights with our own eyes which was amazing and was completely in full view on top of the mtn. The sunrise was pretty but we did have to go to a higher site to see it fully. We would of just stayed there but there was a power pole on the site, obstructing the view a little. We got greeted by a very sweet dog first thing in the morning. Another great surprise tho if we had bought our dog, that would of ended up really bad for one or both pups. Keep that in mind if u are bringing ur pup. I usually do if it's a backcountry site since there isn't usually many people or dogs. Overall we enjoyed our time there. Pretty views and nice easy camping tho I do wish we could of picked our own. We had no idea 6pm would be too late. Our neighbors were partying pretty late with some loud music but that had nothing to do with the site or host. I do feel the host has put in lots of time and thought and u will get a unique camping experience
We camped on site 104 in my opinion it was the best site for sunrise and view over the mountains. Hawks were literally flying by our heads it was amazing. Fire pit area, seating and picnic table were all great and comfortable. We came mid week fir 2 nights so we assumed that was why the trash was full and Porta potty was not clean....BUT.... the view and site made up for it ten fold. The Hosts directions, check in/out directions and firewood were perfect. This is an amazing place especially site 104 and located in an area to sightsee many different things or honestly just stay at the site and just watch the view. Great place!!!
I really enjoyed camping here. It was peaceful and my dog loved it too. I would like to come back. WV is a nice area to get away to for some camping and hiking. The camp spot I picked had a nice big flat area for my tent, but I noticed one or two of the other sites didn't look very flat, so I think that is something that can be improved.
This was a really great place! Great directions, the area is gorgeous. Definitely felt safe. I was camping alone and was very comfortable and secure. Great phone signal anywhere I explored (there is WIFi available, but I didn’t need it.)The campsites are very thoughtfully equipped and there are some really great options for dispersed camping as well. I stayed in a tent, but the cabins are gorgeous. The water is really, really good. I know that sounds weird, but it was outstanding. I made sure to fill my water bottle for the ride home. 10/10 place for sure.
