Bluestone Camp & Retreat is a Presbyterian Summer Camp Program with organized summer youth and family camp activities over 4 weeks in June and July, and a three-season Retreat Destination for a variety of church, non-profit, and family groups April through November. We are a ministry of the Presbytery of West Virginia (PCUSA) serving member congregations as well as many other church and non-profit organizations. Bluestone has been in operation since 1953. Our Mission is to provide experiences that are character building in nature through Summer Camping Programs and other programmatic events for children, youth, and adults; and to provide opportunities for recreation, rest, and renewal through the use of our facilities as a Center of Christian Hospitality. We have five camp sites that overlook the Bluestone Lake Reservoir.  Each is a clearly defined 60' x 20' space along one side of a level grass field, and each is equipped with a 50/30/20 amp electric pedestal, water spigot, sewer drop, picnic table, and an above ground steel campfire pit. There is also a shower house available for Hipcampers to use.   We have two price points: 1. Our Regular Price per night is $40 based on double occupancy. Each additional person (ages 12 and older, max = 6 people per site) is $10. 2. Our price increases to $55 per night for the months of June and July which is our high season. Each additional person (ages 12 and older, max = 6 people per site) is $10. Youth and Children ages 11 and younger are free, so keep that in mind when you select the number of guests in your party!

RVing at Bluestone Camp and Retreat

Site 1 - Bluestone Camp & Retreat
The 5 RV campsites are along the edge of a large open field that is surrounded by trees. The mountains are visible in the distance, but you need to walk to the edge of the field to see Bluestone Lake. If the sky is clear, this is a great place for stargazing. The sites for the RVs are level, but are grass, so if the field is wet, it may be problematic to drive a heavy rig in or out. The lake is far below, so there is no concern with flooding. Full hookups are at the midpoint of each site (along the side of the RV) and are in great shape. Mark and Cheryl are terrific hosts, and we spent a fun evening on their screened porch drinking wine and sharing stories. The location is remote. There is no Wi-Fi at the campsites, and our AT&T reception was spotty at best. The Wi-Fi was good up at the lodge. You will need to drive at least 30 minutes to get to any town or any activity off the grounds. The camp has a large swimming pool with a diving well, volleyball and basketball courts, a frisbee golf course, and lots of open land. We were there in mid-August and were the only people at the camp or campsites. The photos online at Hipcamp are accurate representations. We will definitely stay again if we return to the area.

Quiet, Peaceful, & Stargazing!

Mark is a great host and communicator. He gave us clear directions on what roads are best for pulling a trailer. Our rv site was awesome as we were the only people staying here at the time. The sky was clear for amazing star gazing and this location is about an hour from New River Gorge National Park. T-Mobile home internet was “weak”, about 25 Mbps - but enough to stream a tv show. Verizon cell was about 2 bars and T-Mobile cell was 1 bar. One thing to consider when staying here is the road in is very steep - about 14-16% grade, so if you have more trailer than truck, you may burn up your transmission/brakes. We would definitely stay here again!

This location is a must see! Could not have chosen a more perfect place for my first tent camping experience in over 15 years. It was a beautiful spot and the pictures don’t begin to compare to the real thing. The grounds are perfectly maintained and the bathhouse was spotless clean. It’s got a charm and nostalgic feel that would be hard to find elsewhere. Mark was a great host and a pleasure to chat with. I’m not an experienced camper but can say with confidence that this place has set the bar high and will be hard to top.

The land and river views are amazing. It does get a little warm in the summer since there aren't many trees to camp under. The pool was an amazing bonus to jump in and cool off. Great host too which always makes a difference. Will come back again!

The hard road is worth it.

The road to get to the camp is hard but it’s worth it. If you’ve been following the Lord, it’s a hard road, but it’s absolutely worth it. When you get to the little church that’s hidden in the corner and the cross is there overlooking the most amazing view, You can just sit there and enjoy the presence of God. Probably the best church service I’ve ever had just sitting there at that wooden cross. If it’s the afternoon, and you have a chance to stand in the shadow of the cross, raise your hands and see that it was you hanging on that cross in the shadow. The most spiritual event that I’ve had in a long, long, long, long time.

Our camping experience was so much better than we expected! The land was beautiful, so much room for our toddler to run and play, along with so many animals to experience. Mark and Cheryl were so nice and helpful to everyone in our party. Would 100% recommend and we will definitely be back!

We tent camper on the property and it was so peaceful. The property is beautiful! Mark is a great host and was very accommodating. He was communicative throughout our stay. Facilities were clean. 10/10 would recommend if you’re looking for a place to stay off the beaten path. We day tripped into new river gorge NP which was about 1.5 hour drive.

Mark and Cheryl's Hopefully is great! The property is set up for conferences and cabin camping but they are several sure Mark has installed power, water, and sewer at all the sites and they are pretty far from the cabins and main hall. On the other side of the field, you can walk to a river. T-Mobile worked but was fairly weak signal. There is Wi-Fi at the main hall if needed. The trip to the camp was on a narrow and steep hill. There is an easier way so get directions from the host. Cheryl turned us into some great hiking and provided some guidance to the New River Gorge NP about 90 minutes away. Highly recommend as Mark and Cheryl were ready to contact.

Very quiet and beautiful. It’s a hidden gem. There are many options on the property for lodging and I chose primitive camping. I woke to the drumming of Pileated woodpeckers.

We loved camping on Marks land. It’s very quiet and remote. Our Doberman was allowed to play off-leash and they even offered use of the pool to us. Couldn’t be happier with our stay. Thank You!!

Awesome campsite!
Bluestone Camp & Retreat
We stayed at Bluestone Camp & Retreat Labor Day weekend. While a little off the beaten path, we found the campsite very accommodating. We have a RPod 180. If you don’t mind driving 34-40 minutes to Hinton and the surrounding attractions, this is a must place to camp. Mark was helpful when our GPS got us lost, met us when we arrived and personally took us to the campsite. The firepit was brand new and there was a supply of wood nearby for our use. The bathhouse was clean and close by. Mark also offered use of the pool and there is a frisbee golf course on the property. Lovely view of Bluestone Lake and very peaceful!
