~ Awarded Hipcamp’s Best in State: West Virginia, since 2019 ~ The Byrd's Nest is a river front, primitive campsite on the scenic Cacapon River in Great Cacapon, WV. The property is very secluded, but only 2 hrs from D. C. and Baltimore. The space can accommodate 5 tents comfortably or a few small campers (w/o hookups). Please note- I only book one group at a time. You'll have plenty of privacy! Spend your day bird watching on the river deck, put up your hammock and chill, go hiking or mountain biking at Cacapon State Park, take the kayaks out and paddle around, go fishing, or take a float trip. I can provide info on put in/take out spots depending on how long you'd like to float. I have 3 kayaks available for your use, or BYO if you'd like to venture further outside of the property lines. There is one big fire ring for cooking and/or bonfires, along with a large stationary stand up charcoal camp grill. There is also a small communal shed down at camp that contains extra camping supplies, etc.. feel free to use use and put back and or/ contribute to it! :) This spot is close by to Berkeley Springs, Paw Paw Tunnel, Cacapon State Park, and other nature preserves. More hiking, biking, restaurants, spas, antiquing- all within a beautiful 20 minute drive if you wish to venture out. There is a cabin on the property. I will more often be home than not, I will communicate with you about that around your stay. Sometimes I"ll come down to the river frontage if I drop in for a float .Also, we all get around on four wheelers and UTV's. So you will hear them from time to time. If I am home, please feel free to come up if you have any concerns/questions or to say hi! :) *Please note, you can normally get to this site without a 4 wheel drive vehicle. However, when the river is high it will sometimes flood the low water bridge where it crosses the Cacapon. If this is the case during your stay, I will provide all necessary information regarding projected river levels and directions. I will also offer a full refund if the bridge is impassable. We stayed one night with our two 12 year old girls. They loved kayaking , playing cornhole (from the shed on the property), dancing on the platform and roasting marshmallows. It was so peaceful and can’t wait to visit this site again. This has been our fave camping site yet!

Amazing site! Quiet and peaceful. Plenty of dead fall for firewood, if you don't bring your own. Great spaces for tents. Wifi available and a few plugs for electricity.

I stayed here for just one night but really wish I could’ve stayed longer! The location is absolutely perfect, literally right on the water. The site is huge and could easily host a large group of friends while still feeling private and secluded. I also loved that I could bring my dog along. Despite feeling tucked away in nature, it’s only about 15 minutes from Berkeley Springs, which was super convenient. The host was very friendly and sent clear, detailed directions and instructions before my arrival. I’d love to come back when it’s a bit warmer. Overall this is definitely one of the nicest Hipcamps I’ve stayed at, especially for the location!

The Almost Heaven Bridge campsite at Stoney Creek Campground is definitely a winner - a beautiful misty morning over the the river bend. Andrey is a responsive host; we found the site as he described it and provided access info. Amenities were satisfying; a fire ring with turning grill filled all we needed for the night: campfire and cooking platform. Plenty of space with privacy. Bathroom assigned to our site/group exclusively, was clean and within comfortable reach even at night. Couldn’t beat the hot shower after a cool night! A convenient camp store with all the typical things one forgets for a camping weekend. Would definitely recommend and come again.

We loved our weekend at Kara’s land! It was well-appointed, with a ton of amenities-shower, grill, supplies in the shed, electricity, etc., but still primitive and exactly what we were hoping for. Kara’s land is so beautiful! From the trees and river, to the stunning stars and a few cameos by bald eagles and owls, we are more than happy and relaxed. We had tremendous luck fishing- a fun and constant catching of blue gill and even a few small mouth bass! There were ample tethers to attach our doggo so she never missed out on the action. A quick and lovely drive into town (20 min) to snag needed supplies and then back to remote, beautiful, secluded Byrd’s Nest for food cooked over a fire and staring at our surroundings. We will definitely be back.

Second time staying at Stoney Creek Campground, this time at the north site and had a blast. Mid October was a great time to visit for a peaceful getaway and view the vibrant changes in foliage with the fall season. Our group had a great time at the north site, which was spacious and well maintained with a beautiful view of the river and excellent access to the water. We made use of the camp store for firewood and supplies which was operated by friendly staff. Additionally, the bathroom was well maintained and stocked upon our arrival. We’ll definitely be back again and look forward to our next visit to Stoney Creek Campground.

Kara’s property is a lovely getaway in the woods. It has all the amenities you may need, and a little extra-like the very nice hot shower. If you are down at the campsite on the river, you have river views all the time, if you are up at the top, you can simply walk down and get a great view. Would stay again! The glamping option was very nice for when it started to pour down rain. We hung out, played games and still had a great time! Kara‘s instructions were clear and very helpful.

The place is very private, which is great if you’re with a large group of friends. It’s also nicely separated from the other camps, so you get plenty of space and quiet. The bathrooms are within walking distance — they’re okay, but the water smells pretty bad, so I didn’t even want to brush my teeth or take a shower there. The river is nice to look at, but not really for swimming since it’s not deep, at least not in the south campground where we stayed. During the day, the sun hits directly and there’s not much shade. Besides that, I loved the privacy — if that’s what you’re looking for, this place is perfect.

This property is perfect for large groups who want to enjoy nature but also not be too far from modern amenities. The location is beautiful, with many scenic vistas along the Great Cacapon River. There is plenty of camping space. Each camping zone has it's own unique attraction. There are ample clean and convenient bathrooms, and ample parking so that your vehicle can be very close to the camping areas. Because the country store is there, you never feel worried that you will have to run out because you forgot something. The food they serve is also really good, and you can pick up beer, wine, ice, and firewood too! Our party used the pavilion for live music and movies at night. Andrey was exceedingly hospitable and helped our goup feel welcome and and answered every question I had -- which were many!

Beautiful location along the Cacapon River! Well maintained property! Crow's nest was stocked with all the glamping necessities plus books, dvd's and games for all interests . Hot running water in the outdoor shower is a fantastic feature and experience!

We loved Kara's site. It was absolutely beautiful with lots of space. The river was perfect and easy to access. We used the kayaks and did some swimming and fishing. Our dogs loved splashing in the water. Fabulous fire pit to enjoy the evening. Highly recommend.
