This property and farm has been in our family for 3 generations. In 1964 my grandfather started the campground due to limited camping at New Germany. My father tells stories of it being filled with guests all summer long! Over the years there was few upgrades and now it's in need of a facelift. Landscaping, electric upgrades and bathhouse remodels were completed Spring 2021. We will continue to renovate in phases it's been a labor of love, but you can still see the beauty of this rural location and enjoy the peace and quiet. Hope you enjoy your stay. Lots of trees, shade and nature. It's located near New Germany State Park, 1.5 miles by car, less than a mile by foot. The state park has a lake and hiking trails. Garrett County has so much to offer, waterfalls, lakes, hiking, skiing, Amish gifts, history, fresh air, beautiful scenery. The campground was first started in 1964 by my grandparents, we are currently completing renovations in phases.

31mi from Wolf Den Run State Park · 3 sites · RVs, Lodging · Farmington, PA
Learn more about this land: This wooded area is 5 miles away from the Ohiopyle State Park whitewater launch area and GAP bike trail. We are less than 9 miles from Frank Lloyd Wright's Classic Fallingwater and about 8 miles from Kentuck Knob one of the last resident homes he designed (both are open for tours). Fort Necessity National Battlefield is 5 miles away. There are numerous native trout streams in the area. Youghiogheny Reservoir is 7 miles away for fishing, boat rentals, and water-sports. The Fern House is the primary camp cabin on the property. Although if someone would want to park a "self contained" camper or small RV on the property we would permit the unit to occupy the area in front of the driveway just pass the entrance gate. It is not within the ferns and is next to the road. There is an electrical outlet available at this small RV or van camper site. We are "nice pet" friendly. Dogs should not be left in the cabin alone. We have a mountain spring (when the spring is running) up the trail road (450 feet away). The ferns will normally be in full glory by the end of May to mid September and are amazing, covering the forest floor. Deer, bear, wild turkey, fox, chipmunks, squirrels and many woodland birds abound the property especially owls. A picnic table, fire ring and firewood is available on the property. Free WiFi on the property as long as the plant life is not too thick! There is a mile hiking loop right on the property and many challenging trails in the area, including the starting point for the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. No smoking is permitted in the cabin. Read the entire narrative on the cabin (Tiny Fern House) before booking.

Abrams Creek is like camping in a nature preserve, rather than in a commercial campground.  On our campground, there are no generators, loud electronics, or other things that would distract from appreciating the sights and sounds of this pristine natural environment.   And this is always a great place to beat the heat! We have a mountain climate; the peak temperature most days in the summer is in the high 70's or very low 80's, and at night, temperatures go down to about 60.  You'll be breathing cool, clean, fresh mountain air all day long! Hot showers are included, and all sanitary facilities are *sterilized* between guests.  We have taken every measure to safeguard your health! We are located in the mountainous Potomac Highlands region of West Virginia. Our vision is an environmentally conscious, eco-friendly campground developed in harmony with nature. We are not only a business, but also serve as an anchor for others who want to live more simply and close to the earth. The concept of rural revitalization means reinventing rural life so that it is economically sound, intellectually stimulating, and emotionally satisfying. Ask any of our staff if you would like to learn more about this!

Where the Potomac River snakes out of the Western Maryland highlands near Little Orleans, MD lies the Ridge Rider Campground. We claim more than 220 acres of the country’s most beautiful, practically untouched woodlands, but it’s all yours – to explore, to fish, to commune with nature and your fellow travelers, whatever is your desire. Equally home to the rugged and the relaxed, Ridge Rider is pure camping in the best American tradition, whether you’re tent camping, driving your RV, or staying in a quaint cabin. We’re rich in outdoor recreation, with a sparkling clear swimming pool, basketball and volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, and a terrific playground for kids with a log playhouse. Bear Creek Clothing Optional Camp

14. Bear Creek Clothing Optional Camp

97%
(16)
46mi from Wolf Den Run State Park · 1 site · Tent · WV
It's time to try to find out, how nice it is to camp on your own campsite amidst 6 wooded acres alongside Bear Creek, with Bear Stream running through the middle of it. Quiet and private, with paths and trails on the property. Dry firewood is provided there at the campsite. There is a charcoal grill ready to use, though you must bring your own charcoal. A small RV onsite provides a bathroom and shelter, but camping by the creek, listening to the water running is the way to do it. The site is also very private and naturist ready, and a perfect place for your dogs or your children to run free, so it's time to get back to nature. Since guests have the whole site, they can decide whether it's clothing optional or not. With the new boat launch site near Capon Bridge, on the Cacapon river nearby, and a few more upriver towards Wardensville, it's a great site for kayakers or canudists to plan river outings and stay nearby. There are multiple places to set up tents, or hammocks, either at the main campfire ring, or at several sites away from the main campsite. Throughout spring, rear wheel drive is recommended, and 4 wheel drive might be needed, and during the summer if heavy rain is expected. I would not recommend front wheel drive cars being used there in the spring, unless it is dry out. The RV is limited to two adults, and two to three children, for sleeping, due to it's size. Heading west, is the Canaan Valley and Davis and Thomas, WV. Both towns have many things worth visiting and are close together, and Winchester is 30 minutes away for supplies.

20. North Mountain Recreation

85%
(17)
50mi from Wolf Den Run State Park · 2 sites · Tents, RVs · Back Creek, VA
The site was once part of a country club that included lakes, ponds, tennis courts, and even a ski lift.  After falling into disrepair for years it has now been privatized and brought back to allow guests a chance to experience many of the former recreational options.  Today, a stay allows renters a chance to camp on top of North Mountain overlooking the Shenandoah Valley and the Allegheny Mountains.  In addition to gorgeous views, the site offers miles of roads to hike, bike, and explore as well as fishing ponds, a baseball field, and playground.  The site also offers one of the best options for hikers and backpackers to access the Tuscarora Trail at roughly its midpoint along one of its most scenic stretches.   Learn more about this land:The campsites sit at the very top of North Mountain, which dominates over the Shenandoah Valley at an elevation of almost 2400 feet. The sites are slightly sloping and rocky in places but have numerous plots to pitch a tent or set up your camper (campers will probably need to be leveled). The drive and immediate area around the sites offer spectacular views of the Shenandoah Valley and the Allegheny Mountains (see photos).  However, the campsites are tucked into the pines and laurel for some protection from the elements and privacy (see photos).  This obstructs your immediate views from the site especially in the summer when leaves set on.  Nonetheless, you are literally camping on one of the highest peaks around.  The site is dry and does not have facilities so you must bring all of your camping gear, food/water, and pack out all trash/waste. This includes a camp toilet (mandatory for site cleanliness). The sites offer access to an immense amount to do for the individual, couple, or family.  Think of the sites as your base camp to park your gear much like at national parks.  There is excellent access for day hikers and backpackers on the Tuscarora Trail via the Biby Trailhead just .8 miles down the scenic road (Timber Ridge Trail) traversing the ridgeline.  The sites offer access to the trail at roughly the midpoint along one of its most scenic sections (Gore to Trout Pond).  Many hikers looking to start or end their trek choose to use the campsite as their trailhead camp or place to drop vehicles.  ***If you would like to use the site for long term parking while hiking the Tuscarora Trail, please contact me directly and this can be worked out.  In addition, miles of well maintained public dirt and paved roads are available for walks, hikes, horseback riding, and biking.  There is minimal traffic at the top of the mountain even though it is a residential area so people will often take walks or bike trips around this section. If you head down the mountain, you and/or your kids can enjoy the well maintained grass fields, a baseball diamond, playground with a jungle gym, and fishing ponds, which are part of the old development and open to the landowners and their guests in the community. There is also a lake, which is temporarily closed due to low water levels, but still pretty to view. If you aren't into logging miles on the trail, then set up your grill or kick back by the campfire and enjoy the fresh mountain air scented by pines atop North Mountain. The area was once part of a country club that even included a ski lift in years gone by. Today, in the valley as you enter the former "Shawneeland" development, you will be greeted by some old historic buildings from the days of the country club before driving through the old residential development and up North Mountain to the site.  The site offers a nice cleared area for establishing your campsite on my private land, which affords you access to miles and miles of trails and roads as well as the large community area at the bottom of the mountain where you will find the recreational facilities. Tom's Market is also conveniently located just 10 minutes (about 4 miles) from the campsite as you enter Shawneeland for gas, snacks, firewood, and extras. The drive up the mountain is steep but paved and well maintained. Once on the ridge, you will follow relatively level paved road before turning onto a state-maintained dirt road for the last quarter mile. From there you will access the site via a dirt drive directly across from a county communications site.  The site is accessible with 2WD vehicles, but if you intend to pull into a lower portion of the site or access the site during inclement weather (snow/ice), 4WD is necessary and always recommended rain or shine. The sites are established much like a park that allows campers to drive right into the site and setup on ground of their choosing. Each site has one established stone fireplace. This site can support either one large group or a few smaller groups. If you have a larger party, this can often be accommodated with early notice.
