Excellent location! The sites are right along the river and C&O canal. Firepits are there along with benches. I was easy to find supplies in town. We look forward to the next time there!

We went camping during off-season and it was still so beautiful! We weren’t able to get to the lot we booked, but the owner was so kind & let us camp at a different lot instead. He even offered us to use a picnic table :) can’t wait to go back in the summer!
Beautiful land with a great view! Lots of space and access to water helps a lot. Looking forward to coming back!
Just like some other reviewers posted, there's no clear signage at night and we ended up in a field with a light and picnic table that were the only things camp like in view. It was raining and muddy, so of course we get stuck in the field and have to push ourselves out backwards. Eventually we backtracked and I used a flashlight to find the other sites, but it was muddy there too so we ended up sleeping in our van in the street by a gas station to avoid damaging the path or getting stuck again. It was stressful and completely unnecessary if the owner would have just written better instructions or signage.
I wasn't going to even ask for my money back, except the owner just now texted me days later in all caps telling me I'm "a big jerk" for getting stuck in his mud. He has a big sign at the entrance to the property insulting most religions. He clearly knows how to make a sign. Maybe he could repurpose that one.

This was a really rough trip. I think the main issue is that the picture does not match the campsite. I chose this campsite based on the picture - it has a flowing river in the main image. My husband and I arrived after a grueling drive and it led us to a gas station. This location is not named “Hillcrest River campground.” After a runaround, we read to follow the host’s directions that told us to go behind the gas station and go straight. We did. This led us to a large field around midnight. There was no bathroom and it was really confusing. I had kept the host updated with our location, to no response and then tried calling earlier in the night when we’d first arrived, to no response. I woke up to messages that sounded aggressive (a lot of question marks and exclamation marks directed at me). I was blamed for choosing the wrong campsite, when there was only one option… to choose the site that I did. This location should have its own separate sign up spot, without a picture of the river. In the morning, our host told us how to get to the campsite (the other side of the tractor supply). It did end up being a beautiful Mountain View with a portapotty bathroom and sink. If signage was better, it would have been easier to see (that we should have turned right), but since we arrived in dense fog, we had driven past it. The road noise is very heavy as well, as this location is directly off of a highway. It’s great for being close to the road, but when you turn around, all of the people pumping gas are watching you (so not remote). We were just exhausted from the previous night that we went home early. Donnelly did check in to see where we were the next morning (also lots of question marks), which I took to be a kind gesture. Overall, definitely a really disappointing weekend.

The Hillcrest River Kampground is right behind the Sunoco right off the Interstate. Wonderful place for a stay Donelly was Fabulous. We will definitely stay again. Great experience and highly recommended.
The campground on site 2 was nice. But the host himself was rude and unfriendly and VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! I will never use this camp site again due to this.

Beautiful view of the mountains and very friendly hosts, stayed there with two other RV’s
This is a beautiful location nestled by the river. Really glad I pedaled the extra mile to camp outside Cumberland. You can make out the highway as a dull murmur -- but birds and nature made up more of the soundscape. If you're camping off-season, you need to ask Mr. Bohrer about access to drinking water.
Great place to relax, amazing view, wonderful host. Would definitely stay here again.

Absolutely wonderful! Beautiful scenery,, host were amazing helped in any way they could. Loved seeing their property with little walks at both campgrounds.
I called and told them I was going to be late getting in. They sat and waited for me to make sure I found it and that I had everything I needed.
This place was terrible. We decided to make reservations at this campground after working a full day and traveling that evening. We told the owner at 8:37 pm we would arrive around 10:30 pm or so. When we arrived at 11:00 pm nothing was as promised on the website. When we called the owner he yelled at us for calling so late and refused to help us find the hot shower and flushable toilet. While on the phone, less than 3 minutes after pulling onto the property, a man who appeared to be homeless appeared out of nowhere and approached our vehicle in of the darkest area of the campground.
No lights. No restroom facilities. No customer service.
He told us the next day we were at the wrong one of his two campgrounds. This would have been nice to tell us the night before instead is yelling at us as soon as he answered the phone.
I asked for a refund due to his behavior and his unsafe campground, but he refused.
DO NOT STAY HERE! VERY DANGEROUS!
Do yourself a favor and continue on to the KOA campground in Hagerstown. It was very nice!
This was a great place to stay while visiting family in the area. Hillcrest River Kampground was easy to get to right off the exit, but be sure to follow the host’s directions because he has two different campgrounds and one isn’t as easy to get to if you have a larger rv. We had full hookups for our 32’ class C. There is an excellent long distance bike trail in downtown Cumberland as well as some restaurants and shopping in the area. Donnelly and his wife were very helpful in explaining the area! We would definitely stay here again.

One of the best things about traveling is the people you meet along the way. Donnelly and his wife, Diane made us feel at home right away. And later that night, Donnelly helped us get our air conditioning going very appreciated on an extremely hot night. We would definitely come back when we’re traveling this way.

We had a great 3 day stay at this campground! Donelly was very welcoming while also giving us plenty of space to find a spot and settle in ourselves. The grounds are clean and well kept, with many spots being open and on the river, and other spots being more secluded and tucked away. We had a great time here and would come back again 😊
Great place, we stayed at the river site. It was very secluded it seemed like we had the whole place to ourselves. It is right on the C&O tow path.
Awesome riverside stay. Travelled alone and I felt safe. I purchased firewood from Donnelly and had a lovely picnic table to rest at.
