Welcome to our small Farm and Inn, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Madison County, Virginia. Located just minutes from Shenandoah National Park, we offer intimate nature-inspired cottages and camping on our 120-acre working farm. Enjoy an evening under the stars with fireflies and a campfire after a long day hike, fly fishing on one of our beautiful trout steams or touring the local vineyards and breweries. We currently offer one cottage and a few campsites for our guests. Our campsites are all private, located acres apart with tables, chairs, firepits, some elevated sleeping areas, some hammock spots and a few with a roof. Many of our spots require walking away from your vehicle, short distances. We have three drive-in sites that will accommodate one or two vehicles. We do not allow RVs or trailers due to our narrow mountain driveway. Camper vans are welcome! Our farm store includes Animal Welfare Approved products such as Eggs, Chicken, Beef, Pork, Lamb and Dairy from the farm as well as produce, jams and mushrooms and other items from our local community. We offer camping essentials, local art, bike rentals, farm experiences and tours. The property has miles of trails along mountain spring-fed streams, a small pond and access to three private acres on the Robinson River, a stocked Trout stream, just 2 miles down the road. Our property is centrally located to White Oak Canyon and Old Rag Mountain trailheads in the Shenandoah National Park as well as many vineyards and breweries. Please check in with us about current rentals and camp availability. We are in the process of restoring an 1850s Chestnut log cabin, which will be available for our guests to rent as well as other cottages.

Gypsy Camp Near SNP
Infatuated
My sister and I had an amazing time at Sarah’s Farm. They truly put a lot of thought and care into making their property a comfortable get away for anyone! The camp sites are spaced out enough to give your group the privacy you came to the mountains for. Sarah had more recommendations and instructions on the hikes, wineries, and food place around the area! So if you’re just trying to have some time offline you can, but if you want a little extra for your trip check out the local businesses. Also, highly recommend reading the instructions that Sarah has taken the time to provide very detailed instructions to get to your campsite. I don’t have all the words to describe how amazing my time in Madison was, but I will be back with friends to fill up Gypsy camp! It’s always better staying with locals and make sure you visit their Farm Store that has all their own produce and fun Knick knacks, paintings, etc.

Perfect camping spot! Close to the Old Rag trailhead (15-20 minute drive), super quiet and tranquil location. As an added bonus, there is a walking path from the campsite to a nearby brewery/winery (Blue Quartz Winery). I would definitely stay here again!

Hike-in Hammock Site
Stayed at the hammock specific camp. Really nice, private area with plenty of trees. Keep in mind it's approximately a third of a mile hike to the campsite. Jennifer was super nice and informative. Would stay here again.

Beautiful
My absolute favorite Hipcamp spot! I love this place and already have more trips planned. Extremely relaxing. Bonus: farm animals and hiking trails! I love being able to take a short hike to the farm store, see the animals and continue onto the hiking trails on Jennifer's land. Jennifer is extremely friendly and very easy to communicate with. The campsite was perfect. Lots of room. The kitchen area for prep and washing was top notch. Non-potable water was provided and the kitchen did have basic cooking essentials. Cabinets are high. So if you are short like me, pack a stepping stool. I forgot mine, but Jennifer offered one of her's. Private bathroom with flushing toilet took the site over the top. Clean, very clean. Adjacent solar shower was an extra bonus. Car camping to car "glamping". There was one main tent site that was clear and well maintained. You could most likely pitch two small tents, ore one medium to large tent. I had an extremely large tent and had to pitch near the horse shoe pit. Nice wood table with metal chairs provided. Chairs around large fire pit with cooking grill at the site as well. Surrounded by trees. Quiet except for the sounds of nature. I will take the farm tour next time I'm there. There is so much to explore that I couldn't do it all during this trip. I had spotty cell phone service (AT&T). I could text without issue, and get basic weather reports, but that's about it. And that was okay with me.

Dream campground!
Jen’s campsite was a dream. First, we had no problem finding the location without reception because of her detailed directions. Second, the site was perfect for all your needs - includes a clean sink, bathroom, and shower! Third, the animals on the farm are friendly and made fun little visits to the site. Definitely would recommend this site to anyone.

Great camping!
Our family had a great stay at Butterfly Camp. Our 8 and 9 year old children loved meeting all the animals, touring the farm, and exploring the numerous trails on the property. The hosts were very thoughtful with the site preparation and were great with recommendations in the area. Excellent location for seeing all the Shenandoah sights. The winery and brewery (food, too) right across the street was a great stop after our hikes. The host's store also can be your goto for great campsite meals, delicious! Stayed 3 nights and would like to stay here again and take in some more of this beautiful area. Thanks for for having us!

Camping on the farm
This is such a beautiful camp site! There is a level pad that is quite large, good paring, and the perfect spot to prep meals. This would be a great campsite for a family or a trip with some friends. The host is super nice and the directions are very clear to follow. This particular site has its own bathhouse with a toilet and shower. The outside kitchen is so nice for rainy days. There is a great table to eat at and a horseshoe pit. I definitely recommend staying here! also this site is very private!

Butterfly Camp: Near Shenandoah NP
Amazing camping spot near the National Park (~20 min drive). I car camped at Jeniffer’s farm and as a solo female traveller felt really safe there. Jennifer provided water in a jar (I used it for washing dishes), dish soap, kitchen cloth and firewood. There is a primitive toilet that uses biobags (it wasn’t a problem for me but may be for someone else). Jennifer was extremely nice and helpful, and accomodated all my needs. She gave me maps and recommended places to visit. She runs a little farm store though I didn’t buy anything. I would stay at Jennifer’s farm again.

Sparrow Hammock Camp
Don’t hesitate, camp here!
Sparrow camp was a wonderful spot to set up camp, and I would definitely book it again in the future. I was greeted by some of the farm animals, and Jennifer was a great host; maps of the property trails and local spots were provided, as well as some food and other hiking recommendations. The site was clean, secluded, and quiet. The outdoor bathroom/ portable toilet setup was more than adequate. The hike to the camp site was steeper than I had expected, but still doable. There are places on the property where cell service is obtainable, or you can avoid it all together closer to camp. It is close to the back side of Old Rag, as well as some other beautiful spots. The Farm Store is well stocked with souvenirs, supplies, and some specialty food items. I’m looking forward to returning.

Outstanding fantastic stupendously
Holy smokes, I cannot understate how blown away we were with this place. Not only were the hosts fantastic, helping us to and from the campsite with our gear, but they gave us a tour of their land with a history and the plans for future projects. My favorite part was definitely holding the baby goat. We had the most wonderful time staying here, and we will definitely be returning this summer. Thank you so much, Jennifer, for such a fantastic trip and memories we will have forever!

Hooray! Cool Spot.
Very cool experience. Quiet and private. Nice short trails to wander. Cute farm animals hanging out by the farmstore. Jennifer was super cool and friendly and provided maps of their space / area. The Sparrow Site had several solar panel lanterns which helped navigate in the dark. A five minute walk from my car. Very pleasant time. Close to old rag / hiking. An absolutely beautiful drive.

Butterfly Camp: Near Shenandoah NP
Butterfly Camp was a lovely and private camping spot. We opted for the tipi add-on to save us time with set-up and break-down of camp and it was perfect. Having a load of wood and a “kitchen” area for washing dishes and hands is a great addition to the site. The wooded views and nature sounds were peaceful. Getting to the site was no prob and the farm store is stocked with so many local goodies. We’d love to return soon!

Remote feeling with plenty to do!
Highly recommend a trip here! To start, the directions to the area were super clear, and communicating with Jen beforehand was easy and great. Once we got there, Jen was a wonderful host: she gave us maps and also a run down of everything to do in the local area (recommendations for site seeing, restaurants to eat at, etc.) as well as in Shenandoah if we wanted to go into the National Park itself. The site itself was beautiful, tucked back away from everyone else so you had your own little private spot without being miles and miles from civilization. The land around is great with plenty of walking if you don’t feel like driving around, and it was a blast watching the farm animals. Highly recommend this place to anyone, especially if you’re for the DMV and are looking for a quick weekend getaway like we were! Will be coming back!

Stayed on two different campsites and both were great- quiet, pretty, and spacious. Jennifer was really helpful and had great recommendations for day hikes and places to visit in the area. The farm has a bunch of animals to meet and also a store with things to cook while in camp or take home. Looking forward to vitiating again!

My friends and I stayed 2 nights to hike the old rag loop. Jennifer was very kind, helpful, and always answered messages quickly. We have to shout out the mini goat named Pugsley who likes to rub his forehead on your leg. He and the rest of the animals will be remembered for a long time.

Excellent Glamping Spot
We had a great weekend at Birdsong camp. Despite blustery conditions, we enjoyed ourselves and had a peaceful night’s sleep. The sheltered kitchen gave us a great spot to make and eat breakfast in the rain. Jennifer gave us a great tip for an alternative parking lot for the Old Rag trail, providing us a handwritten map. Pickle the pig stopped by the site and hung out for a bit. We would definitely come back!

Sparrow Camp was absolutely wonderful. Spacious site with multiple trees to set up hammocks on, a little food prep area, sitting table, and fire pit area. Secluded, but also a short trek to farm animals (Maverick, the lgd, and Buster the mini donkey with flair, were highlights, as were the goats). Would absolutely camp there again.

Fun Time At Butterfly Camp
Butterfly Camp was great. Away from everything but close enough that a quick walk gets you to the camp store and farm. Kids loved fishing in the pond, all the animals, and climbing on the big rock at camp. Be aware that there is no picnic table so might be wise to bring a folding table or something. Great host and experience.
