4 nights at 100 Acre Wood

My husband and I had an amazing time staying on Dave’s property. The property is absolutely stunning and Dave is nice enough to give you a tour if you’d like. We booked the up on top site but quickly learned it was going to be too hot without any tree coverage, and Dave was more than willing to allow us to move to the Bruington meadow which provided ample shade and it was much more comfortable! If you have the time take a drive to cascade falls (Dave’s suggestion) for one of the most breathtaking waterfalls and swimming holes. All in all it was an unforgettable holiday weekend and will absolutely be returning day.

My husband and I enjoyed our time in Broadway. High Knob was as described. Apa came to visit for a while. The bathhouse was clean and accessible. We were happy to see that our host provided an assortment of amenities for the lite travelers. Thank you Nathan for your hospitality.

Glamping at Kennedy Peak was great! Nathan was super helpful and accommodating, even though we reached out to him an hour before we needed the reservation. Nathan's land is on an uphill incline, although the Kennedy Peak plot was level. I was able to level my trailer, and the adjacent plots appeared to be level as well. The grounds were very quiet. A delightful feature was the presence of a large, frienfly family of friendly ducks.

It’s obvious the owner loves his land…my wife couldn’t stop talking about how beautiful the trails are there and how well kept they all are! Delightful stay!

The perfect find for a relaxing weekend. We had the place to ourselves which meant we could give the dogs a little more leeway off leash than a public campground allows. They loved it. We enjoyed the comfort of the tent - especially during a thunderstorm- and loved watching the catfish swim in the pond. There’s a lot of heart in this space, and it shows.

nice little place to camp, as long as you prepare for a grass field, you wont regret anything about this place. we only wish we could have stayed longer, bring a baithing suit and some sort of kayak. and make time to enjoy the camp.

Excellent, quiet, private camping experience with great amenities! We loved having the luxury of good WiFi connection, electric & water hookup at our site & having a toilet, sink, & shower right next to our site with hot water & great water pressure!!! Best part was the cleanliness! Nathan kept everything very clean & restocked daily. The provided wooden spool “table” & stone fire ring was a great addition to the site as well! I had not read through the full description of High Knob site I missed that it’s made for a little Camper, not ideal for a tent. We have a large tent & it worked on the flattest part, but it’s very rocky & was not comfortable under our feet until we added more ground cloth. We luckily camped on a very hot & dry week, otherwise the tent spot would’ve likely turned into a river as it is on the downward slope of the hill. Definitely much better for a camper instead of our tent. Nathan was very generous & offered us a chance to switch campsites made for tents (if available) but we decided to stay in our spot since the weather was looking good. We loved having visits from the gaggle of geese & guardian dog! It was fun to see them each day! We visited several of the local attractions listed on Traveller’s Meadows’ suggestion list & had a blast exploring the area! The site location is just far enough from all of the super touristy places to keep it enjoyable for us but there were plenty of local places to see. We absolutely recommend Traveller’s Meadow!!!!

Nice level spot for yours tent. Convenient toilet and shower. Even a nice table and chairs to enjoy. Great place!

2 nights at Camp Cedar Creek

The location was perfect for a hot trip when it was time to sleep. We were in the shade and able to jump in the creek to cool off whenever. We went tubing several times to the forks and the walk was a really easy walk back to camp. This was a great offgrid location and Dave and Josh were readily available if we needed anything. Definitely worth it!

Absolutely breathtaking! We had an amazing time the porta johns were perfectly clean, no hesitation to use them. The lake was beautiful and clean. Not a blade of grass was out if order. 10/10 we WILL be back again! The waterfall was beautiful, lake was beautiful everything was amazing.

Weekend Trip to CASA VARGAS

This was our second stay, and it was just as great as the first! The location is beautiful and peaceful, set on a quiet farm with a very large pond that’s perfect for kayaking. We caught bass and sunnies, which was a lot of fun. The campsite is very spacious with plenty of room for our camper and two tents. The host is incredibly friendly and offers great communication, making everything easy and welcoming. Highly recommend for anyone looking to relax and enjoy the outdoors!

3 nights at Savage Acres on Craig Creek

My husband and I took our kids, niece, and nephews (ages 5-15) camping here over the weekend and it was the perfect spot! The kids had the best time playing in the creek and the teens swimming in the swim hole. Plenty of shade with the trees over the campsite. It was raining the first day we were there and the site did get a little flooded so it was a little hard to decide where to set up our tent but it dried up the next morning! On the description they do recommend to use a 4wd for that site and I definitely recommend also as my van got stuck on the rock bed 😅 The owner greeted us as we arrived and she seemed super sweet! The 2 other sites are closer than they seem in pictures but far enough to feel privacy, everybody was respectful of each other. We will definitely be coming back!

You'll have 47 acres of mature woods, with rolling meadow, some hills, fresh springs, and a wide creek in beautiful Grayson Co, VA. Best of all, you will have lots of privacy and a spectacular star-filled sky on clear nights. Even though the property is located less than ten miles from the nearest town, here there is peace and quiet. Feel free to explore the entire property and enjoy the freedom to pitch your camp at the location that suits you! Perhaps you like the sound of a babbling creek and will want to set up camp at the flat along the creek; or perhaps you want to see the amazing view from the very top of the hill and camp there...or nestle your site in the beautiful meadow in between. The choice is yours. Expect to hike into forest and through tall grasses; there's even a bit of rock you can climb if you wish. Overall elevation change from the bottom lands to the very top of the hill is about +210 feet. Plenty of flatter land in-between. If exploring 47 acres isn't enough to keep you busy, it's a ten minute drive to the New River access where you can canoe, kayak, fish or swim. Or head into town and pick up a book at the local book shop. Access to the property will require a 4WD vehicle, or you may simply park by the entrance at the road and just hike it in. There are no amenities here, and the property often has vegetation (taller grasses) which you might want to cut to make your own site, which is allowed. Photos show what others have done in previous seasons to clear a space for camping. Campsites are generally not cleared of grass as shown. Hipcampers beware, this is rough, back-to-nature, old school style camping. There's often plenty of wildlife to see and hear although hunting, trapping, etc. is prohibited to Hipcampers. We have traced this farm's history back to the 1750's when a mill was built on Reed Creek. There is a log home that we know that was built in 1840 still on the premises. The white farm house across from the camp sites was built in 1877. The fish hatchery that is still in operation today was built by the Federal Government in 1923. Learn more about this land: Camp site situated along 3 separate creeks connected by one large private 11 acre field. Tate Run/ Reed Creek/ Venrick Run. The farm house is across the road and the whole property comprises of 88 acres of woods and pasature. The farm house was built in 1877 and the Ranch currently operates with 30 head of cattle and a working trout hatchery. We have traced this farm lineage back to the 1750's when a mill was constructed at the meeting of Tate Run and Reed Creek by Swiss Immigrant Henry Grubb. Please read the rules and recomendations posted at the site when you arrive. There is no lifeguard on duty, so you swim at your own risk. Although the creek is pretty shallow most of the time, we ask that if you have children, they are supervised at all times, especially around the water. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky. The best time of booking is the weekend at present. We have: Wooded/Grassy hills with plenty of tree cover and open space to spread out . A uniquely positioned community fire pit is available with an impressive view. It is very rustic and primitive, but well kept, quiet, secluded, with developing surroundings. There is direct access to Jefferson National Forest and miles of hiking, biking and horseback trails. Equestrians encouraged, but is Bring your own horse and Tie Line. Nearby sites include Bark Camp Lake, Guest River Gorge, Bear Rock, Little Stony Falls, Chief Benge Trail, Devils Bath Tub, and High Knob. We are also located along several driving and scenic routes to include: Backroads of the Cumberland's, Appalachian Backroads, Virginia Wildlife and Birding Trail, and Thomas Jefferson Scenic Byway (Rt. 72). In addition, within a short drive there is an ATV trailhead in the local town. The Clinch River is not far at all as well. There is a small quaint downtown less than 5 miles with grocery, gas, supplies, and a few places to eat. Mission: The original idea for CR Adventure Outpost came many years ago. We grew up visiting "Grandparents" in Wise County and developed a deep love for the area, the outdoors, and all it had to offer. There came a point, , when we realized that the amount of outdoor activities and authentic cultural experiences could indeed support visitors. It could also support many business opportunities once everyone became aware of what was all around them. At that point, a process began of research and planning on ideas some thought were pointless. People deeply want to get back to nature and withdrawal from a fast paced materialistic society, at least long enough to realize what is really important in life. Our yurt is regularly booked as a unique glamping experience. There are chickens, ducks, turkeys, and guinea fowl free-roaming. Two dogs, nine cats, and several humans are blessed to call this home. There are two bridges that cross Thrashers Creek to get to Arcadia. The first is not suitable for large vehicles and trailers. The second bridge is our recommended entry way. Be aware we live on side of Mount pleasant and the roads on site are graveled and somewhat windy.

The two original, off-grid, Jefferson Sea Cabins are perched on the eastern side of Ginkgo Ridge, And the newest, the Boxwood Overlook, sits on top of the ridge and includes electricity, AC, heat and lights. Ginkgo Ridge sits on the eastern side of the Southwest Mountains, which is the first mountain range west of the Atlantic. The views are big and far. Some say you can even see Portugal! Wildlife, including eagles, hawks, turkey, fox, rabbit, deer, fireflies and more are abundant on the 66-acre property. If you are interested in history, ask John. He will tell you about the Civil War battle fought here and the tobacco baron who once owned the estate. Two of our cabins are off grid — no electric and no plumbing but with alternative water and light. The third and newest enjoys electric. While there is no "running" water, we bring you fresh spring water. And while there is no electric in 2 cabins we make up for it with solar and battery lights and fans. We also offer a propane heater in all 3 to keep you toasty in cooler weather. Both off-grid cabins are equipped with a comfy, luxury queen-sized bed and box spring with fresh linens and plenty of pillows, a chair, and tables. The cabins are approximately 12x14 of interior living space plus a semi covered 16’ x 8’ deck with chairs and table. The original cabin is slightly smaller interior than the lower cabin. The newest third cabin is called the Boxwood Overlook Cabin, because it is surrounded by huge boxwoods and overlooks the entire property. It sits where the original main house was located, but burned down in the 1920's. It is more luxurious that the other 2. It's 12x20, includes an organic queen bed, refrigerator, reclining chairs, interior and exterior lights. And you can drive right to the front door. Each cabin gets a propane heater which keeps you toasty even on the coldest winter nights. In warmer months, the 2 off-grid cabins have battery-powered fans with plenty of industrial batteries. They also enjoys plenty of solar powered torch lamps which offer a terrific ambiance. We do recommend you bring flashlights and or headlamps. If you forget, no worries, we got you covered. The Boxwood Overlook cabin has electricity with interior and exterior lights, refrigerator and AC in the summer. All the cabins enjoy 5-gallon containers of fresh spring water and their own private Loo House/bathroom. The Loo Houses or bathrooms are semi open air. They have roofs, a solar bag shower, and bedside commodes with large, disposable, biodegradable bag inside with special sand that solidifies your waste. You dispose of the bag at a nearby trash box off property, just like a diaper. Extra bags are available. Each cabin has its own fire pit and grill with everything you need to make a fire, including split wood, kindling, newspaper and lighter. Firewood is $7.50 per crate. And if you need help starting your fire, no worries, John will help you. The "Jefferson Sea" is a description many attribute to the nation's 4th President, Thomas Jefferson, who enjoyed the same ocean-like view (but better) of fields and trees below his home at Monticello, that is located 15 miles down the road. Enjoy giant Ginkgo trees (especially in the Fall), boxwood gardens, colossal Tulip Poplars, and Osage Orange trees, and wild organic raspberries in July. We support BIPOC and all are welcome to enjoy our property :) There is a 2-night minimum on weekends. Just down the hill is the historic town of Gordonsville with perhaps the best BBQ on the east coast, wine tasting room, two breweries, several cafes and restaurants, grocery store and liquor store.
