Weekend Trip to Sunrise by the Pond

My wife and I had a fantastic time relaxing and enjoying our anniversary at "Sunrise at the pond." Kevin and his wife were excellent host, and the animals were great entertainment.

Our stay here was great! Many of the campsites are nice and isolated from each other, making noise and crowding a very minimal problem. The lake was fantastic with lots of fish to be caught, and having kayaks available for use was a huge plus! Charles was incredibly kind and accommodating for us. It's a beautiful property, and I would highly recommend staying here. I know that we'll be back.

Weekend Trip to Sunrise by the Pond

We had a terrific time camping on Kevin's farm. It was the perfect place to relax and enjoy a quiet weekend surrounded by nature. Despite visiting in the heat of summer, there was plenty of shade at both the gathering area by the pond and at the tent, which was very cool and comfortable. Kevin and his family are terrific hosts, and we enjoyed the chance to walk their working farm and see a variety of animals. Our hosts thought of everything and were super accessible. And you definitely won't run out of firewood! We definitely look forward to returning.

3 nights at Reckless Raven Farm

The land was beautiful and so peaceful. The bell tent was huge and so comfortable. Lacie and her husband were so kind and friendly. Their Blue Heeler is adorable and a complete sweetie. She hung out with my dog and myself for an afternoon. It was a very hot weekend, the outdoor shower was essential. Their animals are cute and it was a lot of fun to meet the sheep and goats. I just got home today and already am planning my next trip out there!

We loved this spot. There was no shade which would have been difficulty and unenjoyable if we did not bring a large canopy for shade. Getting in the water was easy and the water itself was refreshing. This spot was great for our party of 5 and 3 dogs. We had our dogs off leash as it was a secluded area and unbothered by others. Ticks and bugs were intense, just check yourself after but other wise I would recommend

2 nights at Sunrise by the Pond

Other’s reviews of the stay are spot on! Spacious tent, we added an additional queen size raised camp bed with ease. Shower is hot and close to site and port-a-john clean and closer to the site. There’s a gas station with a convenience market less than a mile from the site for last minute supplies. We took the kayaks out for an afternoon trip around the pond and got to visit a few farm animals. There are trails to hike right from the camp site. Malinda and Kevin were responsive to our request and really enjoyed getting to meet them. Hope to stay here again in the future!

Beautiful site! Lots of wildlife, gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. Had the place to ourselves the first night and rode out a cool thunderstorm. The other sites filled up, and while we could see & hear folks, everyone was courteous. Host was amiable and helpful! Recommend a higher profile car/4WD especially after rain. Bring lots of bugspray and be extra cognizant of ticks! Found about 20 on my dog and I.

4 nights at Peace Hill Farm

Absolutely loved the place, very quiet, well kept, with forest and grazing area along with a beautiful garden as your surrounding. Bonus were the animals. Campsite was perfect size. Bonus was being able to use facilities for personnel care. Was very easy to reserve a site. And very convenient to historical sites.

1 night at Cornerstone Farm

Nice quiet, clean, spacious spot on the edge of one of their farm fields. Picnic table and fire pit set up there for campers to use. It was absolutely perfect for someone like me driving down south needing a last minute spot to pitch a tent for the night, in order to catch some shut eye before hitting the toad again at 6am.

1 night at City Camp on Reedy Creek

We were looking for a one night place to camp close to Richmond and this exceeded our expectations. Even though we were in an urban setting, it really did feel like we were out in the woods. It was quiet and peaceful. The sound of the creek, frogs and crickets made for a perfect evening. I was a little concerned about the composting toilet but it was very clean, well maintained with no smell.

2 nights at Solitude at Thornton Farm

This is my 6th hipcamp adventure (so I feel totally qualified to do this review 😄 🤣). I camped with 3 other people and 3 dogs. We loved the spot. Because we were the only tent campers, it was very private and we got to pick which spot we set up in. We stayed in site 2 whoch was the biggest and most shaded(thankfully because it was HOTTTT). Marvin was great, called me as soon as we got there to let me know he was busy but would be by soon. His place is BEAUTIFUL 😍. Only thing I wish was different was a place to swim to cool off... but that's the only "complaint". Definitely go rest it out for yourself, you won't be disappointed 💕

I can't wait to go back to this site, absolutely beautiful. Charles was welcoming and friendly. I lucked out with being the only person at the site so was able to explore and discover the magic of the lake and surrounding paths. Looking forward to spending more time here in the future when it's isn't overcast and raining.

City Camp on Reedy Creek

Learn more about this land: Come take a load off at this forested Richmond retreat overlooking Reedy Creek. Set up a tent, car camp, or bring your small trailer to one of two sites on a unique property backed up to 20+ acres of woods. Imagine a hidden gem where you can relax to the sounds of rushing water and chirping birds, but can walk or bike to coffee shops, breweries, restaurants, parks or the river. If you are coming into Richmond for a Brown's Island event we are a five minute Uber to an access point using the Potterfield walking bridge (it's a beautiful walk across the James River to the island). Each campsite includes 3 level spots to pitch tents (see dimensions below), and a connected space to park one car, van or small trailer. The large parking space can be used as a fourth tent footprint if needed. There are additional parking spaces. Each site has a fire pit (with firewood on site), a grate to grill over the fire, a picnic table, and a hammock. There is a shared outbuilding with a composting toilet, hand washing sink, outdoor shower (solar warmed), and space to change privately. Campsite W ~ Tent footprints: 1) 10' x 12' 2) 10' x 13' 3) 9' x 10' Campsite E ~ Tent footprints: 1) 15'x16' 2) 10' x 15' 3) 9' x 10' **Pricing is based on groups of up to four adults or two adults with children. Turn at the aluminum canoe placed on top of a large orange road barrier at the edge of our drive way. The canoe is bolding displaying the word HIPCAMP with a red arrow leading the way. Follow the drive down to the river front campsites.. Bateau boats pass by both campsites on the third Thursday ofJune. This is due to a yearly Festival held in Scottsville where Historic river boats that used to haul goods up and down the river back in the day are manned by people in period clothing re-enacting the route that was taken. Smallmouth and catfish are biting. Go by a local store and buy night crawlers,worms and a pack of 2/0 hooks and you will catch something . Firewood available per request and delivered for$30.00 a load. Accessible by car or canoe, East End at Seven Islands provides endless fun for the whole family, including your well behaved off-leash dogs. When you arrive take a cooling dip in a quiet “river pool”, relax on your private beach, or see if the fish are biting. Let your kids experience the best the river has to offer by exploring the shallows for crayfish, chasing minnows, or watching for Bald Eagles patrolling the river. Pitch your tent on the beach or under the trees if you prefer some shade. Spend your nights stargazing, enjoying a campfire (remember to bring s’mores ingredients), or fishing for catfish. This is an ideal family-oriented campsite about an hour NW of Richmond. Come, enjoy and make some memories! Children 10 and under are free On the other side of the river you might hear a train passing by at different times, both, day and night. Safety Notice: Not accessible by boat, canoe, or kayak when the James River level is 6 feet or higher at Scottsville. At 7.5 - 8 feet, there is not much beach to play on and the river is too dangerous to navigate. You can drive in and camp, but please stay clear of all water activities, including fishing, in these dangerous conditions.

Peace and quiet equals “Solitude at my farm. I’m just like you. I want to camp at a quiet place in the country where it’s plenty of acres and no houses to look at and a clean bathroom and shower. Well it’s here. I’m Located in Wakefield Virginia. If you’re traveling to Virginia Beach I’m one hour away. From my farm there is a free ferry in Scotland where the ferry departs to Williamsburg just 30 minutes. At my farm I have 5 sites for tent/camping so it’s spaced appropriately apart I have 2 Rv sites totally away for their privacy and a new mini house also properly spaced away. All have a clean picnic table and a fire pit. 100 feet away you’ll find that clean bathroom, shower and a wash station for hygiene. You’ll see the love I put into this and because I love it and my prior guests love it, which means it may be right for you also. In the town of Wakefield you’ll find gas stations, dollar stores, a Value food market and if you want (to go) food we have that also. Plus it’s home to The Virginia Diner. Amenities include toilet access, a shower, trash disposal, picnic tables, and potable water. Pets are allowed, as are campfires.

Pocahontas State Park Campground

My husband and I love staying at State Parks whenever we can so our overnight at Pocahontas State Park was just the thing for us as we traveled north from Florida with our new camper. The Hipcampwebsite is easy to use to to book your site. When we arrived, we found that our camper would not fit very well on the campsite that we chose. This campground is hilly and has a lot of sites that are not level. We contacted the office and they were very willing to accommodate us although I’m sure in the busy season this probably would not have been as easy to do. We were visiting in late March.A quick drive around the campground helped us to find a site that would fit our camper easily. There are several pull through sites to choose from, too. The campground was very quiet and extremely affordable. We were delighted with how remote it seemed while at the same time very close (within a 10 minute drive) to an area that had everything you would need from grocery stores to restaurants. All all I really nice place to stay.
