Crooked Mountain is a family and Veteran-owned farm, campground, camp store, and small event venue located just ½ mile off the Blue Ridge Parkway at Mile Marker 159 near Floyd, Virginia.
We designed Crooked Mountain to be a unique basecamp for travelers exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains, especially those traveling by van, car, motorcycle, bicycle, or with small RVs. With easy access from the Parkway and scenic mountain roads nearby, it’s a great stop for road trippers, vanlifers, and anyone on two wheels exploring Southwest Virginia.
The campground currently offers 15 campsites across the farm:
• 7 sites on Pine Creek (Sites 1 & 12 have electric)
• 5 field campsites with open views of the surrounding hills
• 3 field sites with electric near the pond (Sites 13–15)
Electric sites provide 30/20 amp power only. There are no water or sewer hookups at campsites.
Guests can enjoy the natural setting of the property and access our hiking trail, fishing pond (catch n release for a fee) and other amenities on the farm while staying here.
Our camp store offers tourism information about Floyd and the surrounding area (including local motorcycle/bicycle maps and routes, along with artisan goods, camping essentials (things you may have forgotten), snacks, drinks, coffee, ice, firewood and more.
During the summer months we also open our fields for a You-Pick flower experience, where guests can purchase a container and create their own bouquet. Flower season typically runs July through September.
Crooked Mountain is located along The Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail, and the town of Floyd is just 4 miles away, offering live music, local restaurants, breweries, galleries, and the famous Friday Night Jamboree at the Floyd Country Store.

Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space.
Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life.
All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky.
We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays. We also don't offer longterm rentals as we focus on short term camping.

This property was once a 300 acre plus tobacco farm. We are located within two miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian trail via a gated, public, forest road. Hikers should park at their campsite and walk up.
The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room.
The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s.
We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants.

Gittn' Pickled is located on VA620, a gravel road that doesn't see a lot of traffic. Trout Creek, a lively full year stream, is directly in front of the cabin and provides soothing sounds all day, and night.
Gittn' Pickled is .6 miles Trail East of the Appalachian Trail on VA620.
Appalachian Trail features Mcafees Knob, Dragon's Tooth, Audie Murphy Memorial, and Tinker Cliffs are just minutes away by motor vehicle. I've prepared a hiking guide to get you started. This is an awesome location to tackle the Triple Crown or just enjoy SW Virginia.
Pickles Branch terminates into Trout Creek here. Pickles Branch is a beautiful stream in a cool and richly forested terrain. All of the Miller Cove ground water empties into Pickle's Branch which can become very impressive during high water events.
Miller Cove, within the Jefferson National Forest, is an area that was once occupied by a small active community. You will find foundations of old structures, springs, creeks, orchards, mushrooms, ramps, wildlife, and much more. Miller Cove can be accessed, by foot, directly from the site. It can be an especially interesting and pleasant hike without the inconvenience of shuttles and parking.
Two bunkbeds are provided with four twin long (35x80) mattresses. These are new hospital bed mattresses with non-permeable covers. Four standard size pillows with non-permeable covers and pillowcases are also provided. You should bring additional bedding as desired; sheets, blankets, etc.

Located less than a mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway, this little hayfield is nestled just a skip away from Mabry Mill (the most photographed spot on the parkway), Villa Appalachia (quant Italian style winery), Chateau Morrisette (larger tourist winery), Nancy's Fudge (a little candy factory and shop), and hiking trails of varying lengths with epic views (Black Ridge Trail and Rock Castle Gorge Trail).
Each of these is under 5 miles from our camp spot. Yet, if you are also hoping to hop out of your camper and WALK somewhere, there is a hike that leads you directly up to Chateau Morissette. Some of the property that this walk traverses does go through land that was logged. So, that section has lost a bit of its luster. That said, now you are able to look off in the distance to see the ridge that used to be hidden.
The property you will stay on is a hayfield that typically has a couple of cuttings each summer. There just happens to be a full hook up campsite located at the edge of the property that someone should be enjoying.
The property owner (my mom, who is in her mid 70s and doesn't internet so well) lives just down the road a smidge. She has graciously offered that we can rent this spot out and contribute the profits to her grandsons' college funds. While you may not see any of us at all, there is a chance you will meet some of the family (mom, myself, my husband or the boys), especially if you have any requests or hiccups.

You'll enter thru a gate (it may be closed, if closed please close behind you as my neighbor sometimes has cows). Go approx 1 mile the road will split...go up the hill on the right. Continue past the Hay barn another half mile. Park on the left side of the gravel road along the tree line.
Another 50ft you'll see a wood foot bridge across the creek. The sites are ahead, PawPaw is first, then Bloodroot Base Camp (bell tent), and lastly Cohosh Cove is the most private. Each site has a sign as well
When driving, please be respectful of the right of way. Drive slowly and respect the farm equipment. Also please do not venture onto the neighbor’s property other than entry and exit.

20 minutes from Blacksburg and 35 minutes from Roanoke, our campground gives you great access to the “Triple Crown” of the Appalachian trail, consisting of McAfee Knob, Tinker Cliffs, and Dragon’s Tooth. Conquer these iconic peaks of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains for spectacular views of the surrounding wilderness. Additionally, explore Falls Ridge Nature preserve, Cascades waterfall, and Carvin’s Cove for hiking, kayaking and mountain biking.
Or just stay on the campground and enjoy the hiking and swimming we offer here.
Nearby in Blacksburg take advantage of the local breweries or Virginia Tech football home games. You can also find Christmas tree cutting in Floyd county, 45mins away.
This property deserves to be shared with others. It is peaceful and beautiful. As your Host, I am passionate about conservation and also teaching people about the medicinal uses of our local herbs. I can lead medicinal herb walks upon request for $25 a person.
I typically try to meet the campers if I can upon arrival, I am available for questions and can be hands on or off as the needs of campers suggest. I have had campers ask if I wanted to share a beverage and sit around the fire and have done so. I want to make your experience as enjoyable as possible.
I love the peacefulness the property offers, and that you’re in the middle of the wilderness but also have quick access to things in town. The river campsites are my favorite part of the property. At the main cabin I have goats and chickens which hipcampers are more than welcome to greet.
About the listing
Pitch your tents at the campsite nestled along the side of the mountain on the banks of the North Fork of the Roanoke River. As you fall asleep, listen to the occasional hoot of an owl, howl of a coyote, and gentle ripple of the river and creek that flank the campsite.
Campers will have access to a private composting toilet, fire pit, and picnic table.
We offer two different campsites on the property, so note that you may see or hear other campers on the grounds during your stay.

Nestled on a private 65-acre farm in the Alleghany Highlands of Virginia, Beaverdam Falls is located on VA SR-311 (Kanawha Trail) in the Sweet Springs Valley. Nestled in the old community of Earlehurst, between Covington & Roanoke, Beaverdam Falls are an historic series of waterfalls on private property. The Falls are at the headwaters of Dunlap Creek and are the terminus for the Sweet Springs. Available for guest stays & recreation, are the Upper Falls portion. Surrounded by the verdant George Washington National Forest, the Upper Falls, displays a constant waterfall of around 40-feet in height, & decorates the final mile stretch of the Sweet Springs, both on our property. Additional beautiful cascades pepper our tract of Beaverdam Falls as well. This private tract of unparalleled Virginia countryside will simply astonish your expectations. As the source of the Falls, Sweet Springs Creek, serves as a long, unique home for trout, calcified travertine rock, chalybeate water, and ancient beaver dams (as well as active ones!). Beaverdam Falls is a rare place for the lack of stone and the centuries of beavers who have left their trace in & on our creek—and swamp, the Stick Marsh, which has an active beaver dam. Be careful! Lazy River Farm has so much to offer. Tents sites are in a wooded setting, on a beautiful hill, spread out for privacy. Not at the river. Camp sites also have fire rings with wood available for you to use. Campers are welcome to use any wood that's on the ground near or around your site. Camp sites can be accessed with a high clearance 4 wheel drive vehicle or walk up the hill to your site. With easy access down to the river, by walking or driving, you can cool off in the beautiful Cow Pasture River.
Glamping in the Vardo Wagon is another option, with its close proximity to the river and cozy interior. The Gypsy Rose sleeps 2, but can sleep 2 additional guests with a tent.
Paddle boards and kayaks are available for free if you paddling near the farm. (Life jackets are limited but are required, so if you have one bring it) drop in a line to fish, or simply sit by the river and listen to the soft rapids.
Lazy River Farm is a working farm, with lovely Scottish Highland Cattle, pigs, chickens, horses and livestock guardian dogs.. Your welcome to come and pet the animals. Do not feed animals. Do not go into fields or stalls with any of them.

Hippie Hollow is a special spot- way more than a place to camp. Sly has created a magical, laid back environment to meet others, play music, exchange treats around a communal campfire, and relax by a creek. It’s also just around the bend from Floyd, a sweet little hippie town and home to bluegrass music traditions. Tons of music, arts, and nature! I’ll definitely be back and when I do, Hippie Hollow will be my home!

The property is so beautiful, a true sanctuary. Fran is a gracious host, the facilities are clean and easily accessible (depending on where you’re located). I am so grateful to find this peaceful place, I will be back for sure!! I loved the creek and rope swing and other little details that show the magic of the mountain. Easily the best camping destination we’ve ever been to! It was my youngest son’s 5th birthday and he had a blast. The swimming area is incredible and pictures just don’t do it justice. It was so peaceful and we basically had the whole place to ourselves. We had a couple ducks visit and so many crawfish for my son to try to catch. We would absolutely recommend this place and we have every intention of returning one day!

I’m a new camper, but I can’t imagine anywhere better than this. The sound of the river the campsite was large totally private. Well equipped. Took a bath in the river watch the Hawks fly overhead and the trains at night to me were out of a dream just special. Everything was perfect.

We had an excellent experience with the Crooked Mountain campsite. The hosts were both very friendly and accommodating, the campsites were well-maintained, and the site and pick-your-own garden were very scenic! The shower room was clean and the hot showers were greatly appreciated. Lots of local hiking nearby, plus swimming available at the Fairy Stone State Park. Would recommend!

This is one of my favorite camps. High in the mountains so it was nice and cool, private but not completely secluded, and the views were gorgeous. Beautiful spot! Definitely recommend. Chris is very kind and helpful. There are lots of nice tent spots by the lovely, little creek. Flat, easy walking areas around gardens, wildflowers and trees (and mountains in the background!)- check for ticks. The electric spot is not by the creek, it is right by the community bathhouse. Shower and indoor toilet. Washer and dryer (don't mess with the settings). Would stay here again!
