Shenandoah NP MTN Field

This is a great site if you're looking for privacy. It's close to Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park which is a beautiful place to visit. If you're looking for a place with dark sky, this is perfect. We contacted the neighbor and he delivered our firewood before we got there. J was helpful and warned us the increased mosquitoes this season, so we were well prepared.

Great spot away from the crowds. Nice large flat space that can accommodate several tents. Can get muddy when it rains. Short walk to a pond, and the sounds of the creek is lovely, although it’s not so easy to actually access. A couple of miles mostly uphill walk to get to the AT on quiet roads. Firewood delivery available. Trees around the site work for hammocks. Gravel roads so definitely helps to have AWD, but recently graded and not a bad drive to Luray. All in all a lovely couple of days!

We had a great time on JC's campsite. The nearby creek and lake are huge plusses. It was a good basecamp for trips into Shenandoah National Park. JC was helpful and responsive to help us plan the trip. Thanks!

A nice holiday weekend spent here

We camped here with 4 people and a dog between 2 tents and 2 vehicles. A generous sized area. Plenty of free firewood was left behind by prior campers so I hope whoever reads this gets lucky too. It was very private, we felt alone in the forest. Took us only about a 30 minute drive from the campsite to enter Shenandoah NP at Thornton Gap entrance.

Easy directions. Clean campsite. No one nearby. Quiet. No cell service. National park nearby as stated. Just download offline google maps and it’ll be great!

We loved camping here, it felt super secluded and was just an overall nice time in nature. Questioned my Mazda CX-7 a few times but she did well! Would definitely stay here again over any of the campgrounds in Shenandoah National Park!

The site next to the creek is so quaint and peaceful. It's the perfect little nook to get away and into nature! Excellent tree coverage of the site makes light rain very enjoyable. J answered all our questions and was very helpful. Thanks for the stay!

What a great, huge lot! We were able to really spread out, dogs and kids had plenty of room to run. The hill was a great work out after breakfast. And the sunset! Pictures couldn't do it justice. Great spot all around! Thank you for sharing it!

Camping at MTN Field was a super good time. Plenty of flat spots to fit four large tents and several 10x10 canopies. Unfortunately the wash house was under repair, but J immediately communicated and made it right.

It was definitely a learning experience for me!! You’ll have to have a truck to drive all the twist and turns of the Steep Hills. And having NO cell service to call for help just added to my stress but I would recommend it, I just wasn’t prepared.

Loved our campsite! Private and secluded but felt very safe. Our host arranged for a firewood drop off from a neighbor. Our host, and firewood friendly neighbor were both very kind! Our host sent me maps ahead of time, and gave me a call to review details of the site and the area. Such a great weekend and such kind people 10/10

This campsite was great! it has plenty level areas for a few tents, a van or small trailer. The layout was nice and it is a short walk to a small pond. There were a few locals who drove by but for the most part it was very quiet and private. The drive up to the campsite is beautiful, and i had no problem following the GPS straight to the site. There is no cell service here so be sure to know how to get back out!

Relaxing mountain getaway!

I would recommend using google maps instead of Apple Maps for navigation to the campsite. J was very helpful in giving more specific directions once I got to the neighborhood! This campsite is perfect for someone looking to disconnect from the outside world and truly relax. The road to and from the campsite is fairly steep, so I opted to stay at the campsite all weekend to minimize driving. My dog loved wandering around in the woods and I loved waking up every morning to birds singing!

Camping on top of a mountain!!!

I love hiking and have always dreamed of camping on the top of a mountain. This is the best of both worlds! You drive up to the top of the mountain, so you aren’t carrying your supplies up. We still got an amazing hike in though. The host sent us a map and called to explain how to get to the A.T. We left from our campsite, made it to the Tanner Ridge Overlook, then went to Lewis Falls on the A.T. and back to the campsite. That took us 7hrs with a long lunch break at the Overlook. We had a ton of rain over the weekend and wouldn’t of made it down the steep muddy section that brings you to the field without our 4Runner. We were sliding even in that, so take the hosts warning seriously! The host is very kind, thoughtful and easy to reach. The campsite was incredible and just as secluded as we hoped. Sunset and stars up there will be hard to match. The neighbor delivered us firewood right to our campsite and even brought us hand warmers!! This place is very special and we definitely want to come back again.

This was my second time staying at one of A’s sites and I’d highly recommend. I was going to try this ridge site, but ended up switching to the mountain site because I had stayed there before and it was more private. A was VERY quick to respond and he gave great directions and instructions. The mountain site definitely requires at least AWD and some clearance (normal Subaru SUV is perfect). I’d definitely be back again

Easily my favorite spot around Shenandoah. The creek luls you to sleep, and the sunsets over the pond are gorgeous. The owner keeps out of the way, very private spot. The road seem to have improved since last I was here also.

Had a wonderful time at the camp site. It's primitive in a sense. As I went when the bathhouse was being renovated. But the creek is literal right there. So I enjoyed a few creek baths! The road to get to a from camp back to the main road is not for the faint of heart. But if you are up for the "gravel travel", you're in luck. I have a Jeep Patriot Sport 4cyl 2wd and I got in and out. Luray Carvens is 20mins from the top of the main road. No cell service at the site and the pond is right done the road ( you can walk). It was an awesome experience. I would rate it intermediate- advanced. I advise you to bring everything you need or think you may need, simply because the drive in and out isn't one to continuously make. Definitely for the outdoors lover! Enjoy!!

Primitive Camping

The location is totally primitive and amazing! Would totally go again! Pulled a pop up trailer (queen/full on the ends) with my Mazda CX9 AWD without too much difficulty. A word to the wise: DO NOT USE APPLE MAPS!! It will take you on wrong roads. However, the wrong roads added to the adventure and will be an unforgettable camping trip.
