Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space.
Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life.
All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky.
We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays. We also don't offer longterm rentals as we focus on short term camping.

Accessible by car or canoe, East End at Seven Islands provides endless fun for the whole family, including your well behaved off-leash dogs.
When you arrive take a cooling dip in a quiet “river pool”, relax on your private beach, or see if the fish are biting.
Let your kids experience the best the river has to offer by exploring the shallows for crayfish, chasing minnows, or watching for Bald Eagles patrolling the river.
Your site is approximately 2 acres, so you will have your choice of where to pitch a tent or place your camper or trailer.
Spend your nights stargazing, enjoying a campfire (remember to bring s’mores ingredients), or fishing for catfish.
This is an ideal family-oriented campsite about an hour NW of Richmond.

This is an active 55-acre horse farm. About 2/3rds of the property is developed with barns and fenced pastures and the other third is largely undeveloped areas with a loop driveway where most of the camp sites are located. There is a large white house at the far end of the property. The restroom for campers to use is located there. To one side of the driveway, on the way to the house there is a beautiful large swimming pond, complete with beach and gazebo.
The property is unique in that you can hardly see another house from anywhere on the property and yet we are only 2 miles from Barracks Rd. Shopping Center, and 4 miles from the University of Virginia.

The Guinea farm is 18 acres of field and forest on the rural middle peninsula. Only 1 mile from 2 separate secluded dog friendly beaches and a boat launch. There is very little traffic or light pollution here, nature is at your fingertips.
Come visit the farm and experience agritourism at it's finest. Pick your own veggies in the community garden and meet the Guinea fowl! Enjoy the wilderness and learn about the local ecosystem here on the middle peninsula.
There are 3 sites spaced out across the 18 acres set apart for privacy. Wisteria Treehouse site closer to the entrance gate. Trilogy Micro Cabinz is in the pines 700' beyond that and separated by dense forest. Stargazer Tiny cabin is an off grid rustic camping cabin on the back side of the property.
Each site is surrounded by several acres of forest and close to the edge of a large field. There are roaming guinea fowl that may come make a very loud appearance as they canvas the property eating bugs. Deer, Turkeys, Bald Eagles, foxes, and other wildlife are common guests also. Mid-summer is what I call frog season, Tree frogs are abundant and provide a wonderful soundtrack.
There are free to use bicycles, an axe throwing board, and cornhole boards available.
4 miles from shopping and dining in Mathews Virginia, 15 miles to Gwynn Island. Gwynn's Island is an island located in the Chesapeake Bay off of Virginia's Middle Peninsula. The island is located in the northeast part of Mathews County, south of the mouth of the Piankatank River. It is connected to the rest of the county by a swing bridge over Milford Haven.

There are some fish in the pond, but it is catch and release. Fenced dog park and playground located behind the tasting room. Located conveniently between Richmond and Charlottesville only 3 miles off I-64 but feels like the secluded countryside. There are trails around the property to explore as well (please be considerate of other campers if present). You are welcome to visit the playground behind the tasting barn too. Porta john is also available in front of tasting room building, and water hose on East side of building for small amounts of water if needed (not intended to fill camper tanks).

Welcome to our small Farm, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Madison County, Virginia. Located just minutes from Shenandoah National Park, we offer intimate nature-inspired cottages and camping on our 120-acre working farm. Enjoy an evening under the stars with fireflies and a campfire after a long day hike, fly fishing on one of our beautiful trout steams or touring the local vineyards and breweries.
We currently offer one cottage, glamping and a few campsites for our guests. Our campsites are all private, located acres apart with tables, chairs, firepits, some elevated sleeping areas, some hammock spots and a few with a roof. Three of our spots require walking away from your vehicle, short distances. We have four drive-in sites that will accommodate two or three vehicles. We do not allow RVs or trailers on our main farm due to our narrow mountain driveway. Wisteria Camp has a private driveway, it can accommodate small RV/Trailers. Camper vans are welcome at the main farm!
Our farm store includes our Animal Welfare Approved products such as Eggs, Chicken, Beef, Pork, Lamb and Dairy, as well as produce, jams, coffee and other items from our local community. We offer camping essentials, local art, bike rentals, farm experiences and tours.
The property has miles of trails along mountain spring-fed streams, a small pond and access to three private acres on the Robinson River, a stocked Trout stream, just 2 miles down the road. Our property is centrally located to White Oak Canyon (20 minutes) and Old Rag Mountain (10 minutes) trailheads in the Shenandoah National Park as well as many vineyards and breweries.
A few offerings on the farm. Tasting in the 1850s Chestnut log cabin, tubing trips, breakfast and picnic lunches, Animal experiences and Yoga. Please inquire about renting the property for private small events.

Beaverdam Falls is a rare place for the lack of stone and the centuries of beavers who have left their trace in & on our creek—and swamp, the Stick Marsh, which has an active beaver dam. Be careful! They do bite!

174 Acres of forested land in the Draper, Virginia area with scattered clearings connected by over 2 miles of cleared roads throughout the property, which are perfect for hiking, cycling, and horseback riding. The property includes a very small creek, several ravines, ridge lines and trails to explore. We frequently encounter deer, rabbits, squirrels, and the occasional turkey, black bear, coyotes and Bigfoot. The thing people seem to enjoy most is the privacy and and quiet that allows you to connect with nature. Each of the 3 sites is hundreds of yards apart. Note: there is no bathroom on the premises, however you can book a toilet tent as an extra. 4 Wheel Drive or All wheel drive are helpful during the winter months if there has been a lot of rain or snow/ice.
Things to watch out for are deer ticks and poison ivy. Campers are expected to leave the site neat and take all their trash with them.
We are located about 5 minutes from I-81 or 15 minutes from I-77 making it an easy place to stop when passing through on your way to other adventures. If you are coming on I-81, use exit 89-A. Don't let Google maps take you to Frog Level Ct near the town of Pulaski (LOL). Nearby attractions include Appalachian Gem and Gold Mine on Route 100 (5 min), New River Trail State Park (10 min), Claytor Lake State Park (20 min) and the Town of Draper has a couple small town shops to explore including The Draper Mercantile and Trading Company and the newly opened Conery where you can get wonderful ice cream cones and more. Also, check out the Draper Mountain overlook on Rt 11, just 10 minutes from our HipCamp.
We love hosting campers and are happy to help make accommodations to help you have an enjoyable stay. We have 3 sites but only allow 2 to be in use at a time on the property. This insures that all guests continue to feel complete privacy from others and allows us to always have an alternate site available if campers want to change. Bring your dogs !
Available "Extras" include portable toilet setup, Woodshop class making a cutting board, Bigfoot sitings as well as various camping gear items and games. If there are other extra's you would like to see or something you forgot to bring please let us know and we will see what we can do.

Fly fisherman will quietly walk the banks and creek as they fish, and campers are requested to allow a fly fisherman to pass through without disturbance as they quietly move through your site to fish beautiful Cedar Creek. Watching them fish, catch and release beautiful rainbow and brook trout can be a relaxing, enjoyable experience.
The oral history of Coal Mine Hollow has it that a moonshine still once graced the banks of Camp Cedar Creek. It was run by a recluse, who was always on the move from the Revenuers. A revenuer went missing along Cedar Creek one moonlit night, never to be seen again.
The bearded recluse who ran the still, owned two mules, and an old car frame without a motor. Those mules would pull him through the hollow, and up into the mountains, where the revenuers never found him. Some say on a cold, moonlit night, they’ve seen his two old mules, pulling an old car frame past Camp Cedar Creek.

We are a Nature Retreat bordering Nature Conservancy land along a tributary and up and down the Rappahannock River. You can hike along the stream down to the river and up and down the river. You can fish and float the river. There are no trails so a moderate level of fitness and comfort in the forest is needed.
You can follow the water ways but it is wilderness. Camping there is primitive but available or you can camp or glamp at Earthwalk Ways Retreat. We are also adjacent to a 50 acre farm on the other side of the creek that is available for hiking. There is a reservoir nearby as well.
We are in the midst of the suburbs not far from Fredericksburg, which has some great historic and community places of interest.
Our facilities are private and we only rent to one or 2 guests at a time. You can glamp in a trailer, or car camp in a nice campground with power and water or you can go primitive and pack in. All spaces include access to our classical 11 circuit labyrinth and backyard gardens where you can enjoy zen rock garden and other contemplative nature crafts. There are some great extra's here as well including an outdoor jacuzzi and indoor infrared sauna and massage chair. These spa features are another great way to get your zen on here. I offer Forest Bathing and individual retreat support sessions, an quarterly sweat lodge and also vision quest support if people would like to experience a solo nature immersion feast.

Each site includes a simple, thoughtfully built deck structure with a roof, offering a bit of shelter while still keeping you close to the elements. (Please note: camping gear such as tents and sleeping equipment is not provided.) There is also plenty of space if you prefer to camp directly on the ground. Solar lights provide a soft glow in the evenings, and hammock hooks are available for relaxing among the trees.
This property is also part of how we’re raising our sons, Ryker and Crew. They help maintain the sites and care for the land—learning the value of hard work, responsibility, and how to interact thoughtfully with guests. If you stay with us, you may see them around or be greeted when you arrive. Your visit helps give them real opportunities to build confidence, develop social skills, and take pride in meaningful work.
Firewood is available on-site for purchase from a local friend (cash or Venmo), making it easy to enjoy a campfire during your stay. Please note that parties or additional unregistered guests are not permitted under any circumstances. You will be immediately asked to leave and additional fines will apply.
The property is shaped by two beautiful waterways—the Robinson River and White Oak Run—which meet nearby and create a peaceful, ever-changing landscape. Fishing is allowed with a valid Virginia fishing license; you may have better luck exploring upstream or downstream, as water depth near the sites is often around 2–3 feet.
Wildlife is abundant here, making it a great place for birdwatching, photography, or simply observing nature. Hunting is not permitted, helping preserve a safe environment for the animals that call this land home.
Kayaking is best in the spring when water levels average at least 2.75 feet. During drier summer months, the river becomes shallow <1', especially near the campsites.

My family and I had an amazing time at Cedar Creek Campground. David was the perfect host. Welcomed us to the site and told us about the area. The location is stunning. My kids spent the day swimming in the creek, hunting for bugs, and enjoying the campfire/s’mores at night. We can’t wait to come back!

We loved it! The people were so kind and accommodating. The campsite was HUGE and private. Not to mention there was live music, food trucks, and a car show going on just a 5 minute walk from our site. We will definitely be back next time with a group of friends!

Beautiful campsite on a creek. Mostly level and very private. Easy walk to the family’s winery and brewery. Jamaican fare food truck was on site and smelled delicious. Very nice place to camp. Will definitely be returning!!

Group trip
Therapeutic Screams farm was the perfect getaway for our Memorial Day group. We stayed at the micro cabins spot which was secluded from the other campsites. There is a short walk to the portable toilets but it is well maintained. Our group had so much fun holding and learning about the chickens with the host Ian. The property has good cell service and multiple secluded beaches just a few minutes down the road. Would love to stay here again and try other campsites.

A beautiful site with tons of privacy. This site was very easy to find, with clear directions. The dogs were able to run around while we set up camp. We were given a tour of the property which was fun. We will definitely stay here again if we are ever in the area.

We loved our stay on David’s land. We arrived late after dinner in Pulaski. We were regrettably informed that David likes to give a tour of the property to get the lay of the land. We were sad we missed out on that but we will hopefully be back in the future. The site is beautiful, even in the fog and rain. Our dogs loved running around on the hill. It was very peaceful and quiet. We will have to plan to comeback for longer in the future.

I’m a returning camper here. First time staying in the microcabin. It comes with a bunk bed and chairs. Cabin is completely screened it. The site offers a 2nd A-Frame cabin with cots. There is a picnic table on site plus a fire pit. Campsite is secluded and surrounded by woods.
The host Ian is very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. If you’re looking for a nice spot only mile or so from both Aaron’s Beach and Haven Beach, you found it. Highly recommend and I will be back in the future. Also site is 2WD accessible.

I stayed at Camp Redfish, which is basically a shed, but it was awesome! It felt very private with amazing views. Tons of butterflies, beautiful birds, and a field of wild flowers. I very much enjoyed my weekend getaway here, and Evie + her family were beyond helpful with anything I needed. Great place, great people😊

This was my kiddos first camping experience and this host made sure they would want to go back. They were super accommodating and some of the friendliest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. 11/10 would highly recommend.

The tree house was set up really cool. Was fun to cook breakfast in the trees. They had activities for the kids and animals to see. Great for kids

We spent 2 nights and 3 days here and loved every minute of it! We brought our son who’s 8, he’d never been camping but has been asking to go. We fished and explored the whole time, caught a few bass and saw lots of beautiful birds. The host was responsive for questions, and the directions were clear and easy to follow! Our boy asked to come back to the same spot multiple times before we even left!
