Fairlawn Riverfront is a private conservation-zoned property located along the New River in the Fairlawn neighborhood of Radford, Virginia. We are the stewards of approximately 700 feet of river frontage and this recovering riparian corridor. Wildlife viewing, fishing, tubing, hiking, and peaceful riverside relaxation will fill your days here. We offer a handful of spacious campsites with plenty of room to spread out and enjoy nature. Each site will have a table and chairs, a fire ring, a flat area, sun and shade, and views of the New River. Guests also have shared access to The Lawn with its river access, tables, communal fire pit, footpaths, woodland play area, port-a-john, and parking. Thanks to our ongoing efforts to "Garden for Wildlife," deer, heron, osprey, songbirds, fox, rabbits, waterfowl, and other wildlife are commonly seen throughout the property. The property is minutes from Radford, Christiansburg, Blacksburg, Virginia Tech, and Radford University, making it a convenient basecamp for exploring the New River Valley while still feeling private and secluded. Fairlawn Riverfront is an active conservation project where native habitat is being restored through invasive species removal, native plantings, and ongoing stewardship efforts. Every reservation helps support the continued restoration and protection of this unique stretch of the New River. If you're looking for a quiet riverfront experience, beautiful sunsets, abundant wildlife, and a place to slow down and reconnect with nature, Fairlawn Riverfront is for you. We set up and reconfigure spaces for visitors as needed. Photos of sites show the sites "naked" (as they are whenever not in use), but each site gets set up prior to guest arrival. Although we have designated 6 sites to allow guests options, we rarely allow all sites to be in use at the same time. If something doesn't suit your needs, contact us to talk through your request. We are pretty flexible. We are handicap accessible, and the port-a-john is ADA-compliant. We have two sites where vehicles are permitted to drive into the campsite (with host approval); one site is fully wheelchair friendly. The host can help transport equipment to and from your site if your mobility is impaired—please let the host know if you need extra help.

Tucked under the East Overlook at Fairlawn Riverfront, this site checks all the boxes. Close to parking, port-a-john, and woodland playground, Black Willow has river views, and over 3 acres of wildflowers in its east facing view. Mature trees shade this flat open site for most of the day. This is our only site with a full set of very comfy outdoor seating in addition to your table and chairs for 4. Songbirds love this little grove of native trees and we're pretty sure you will too. It's a quick walk up the hill to the shared port-a-john and parking. All sites will have a table and seating for 4 (or 6 if upgraded), a fire ring, and plenty of sun and shade. Approx 50x50ft site that feels much bigger due to acres of open space dead ahead. Riverside campsite situated on the edge of a 3.5 acre wildflower meadow and nestled under a beautiful Sycamore tree- this site is right on the New River! Sycamore is a flat, open, space with a near constant breeze coming off the water. Just a short walk to the shared port-a-john, parking area, shared river access point, communal fire pit, and open green space. All sites will have a table and seating for 4 (or 6 if upgraded), a fire ring, and plenty of sun and shade. Approx 50x50ft site that feels much bigger due to open space up, down and in the river. This slice of heaven overlooks the New River from underneath a small groove of young trees native to Virginia. The black cherry tree produces edible fruit and attracts wonderful songbirds! This site sits closest to the shared space where guests enjoy river access, communal fire pit, and open green space. Black Cherry is a flat, open, space with a near constant breeze coming off the water. It's a quick walk around or up the hill to the shared port-a-john and parking. All sites will have a table and seating for 4 (or 6 if upgraded), a fire ring, and plenty of sun and shade. Approx 50x50ft site that feels much bigger due to open space up, down and in the river. Situated on the edge of a 3.5 acre meadow and boardered by mature trees, the Chinkapin site is flat, open, protected from the wind and close to the shared port-a-john and parking area. All sites will have a table and seating for 4 (or 6 if upgraded), a fire ring, and plenty of sun and shade. Naturally our main attraction is the New River and this site gives a little added privacy due to being set back some from the river and situated closer to our other amenities (slack lines, restroom, and parking). Breezy wheelchair accessible campsite situated on a hilltop overlooking the New River. Four quaking aspen planted in 2025 will become a colony grove in time and they are already a defining feature of this site. Quaking Aspen is a host favorite with stunning river views, just steps (or a few rolls) to ADA port-a-john, and close to parking, playground and The Lawn. This is a narrow strip of flat hilltop perfect for car/truck camping or smaller 2-man tents. Shady and breezy, the summer heat is hardly a bother here. All sites will have a table and seating for 4 (or 6 if upgraded), a fire ring, and plenty of sun and shade. Rolling shade all day.

Dogwood

Our Dogwood campsite is the crown jewel of Fairlawn Riverfront's offerings. Here you will relax and sleep right in our Secret Garden. The natural topography creates a private cove facing the river. With all day shade under a circle of mature trees, Dogwood is noticeably cooler than the rest of the property. While restoration is in its' early stages and new plantings are still young and small, almost 20 grey and red Dogwoods circle the site along with rows of native bushes and newly planted beds of native wildflowers. Our deepest "swimming hole" (about 4ft at low water) is adjacent to this site, along with the best fishing and close access to the Smith Park Trail. Far from parking, port-a-john, woodland playground, shared spaces and everyone else, the Dogwood site quiet and peaceful. Site has a table and seating for 4 provided. Dogwood has a rolling lilt to the land so it would be difficult to find a completely flat spot for a large tent, but no problem for a 2-4 person tent. It is a longer walk to the port a john, but offers both POWER and WATER. Visitors may set up and use a camp toilet as long as it is inclosed. All Day Shade. NOTE: the mobile homes shown on areal view near Dogwood site were removed years ago; that old road is part of the the riverfront trail that borders the 100+ acre Smith Farm Park

We had so much fun camping on Kelly’s land! Exactly as described and the river was so clear and refreshing. Kids and dogs were all exhausted by end of day running, exploring and playing in the river. We had a superb view of the fireworks and will definitely come back again. Plenty of parking. Flat and smooth we didn’t encounter any rocks while sleeping. So happy to have been able to find this gem :)

Thanks Kelly and family for hosting the New River Expedition at your awesome riverfront site! Great option for paddle-in camping along the New River Water Trail. We loved watching the osprey hunt for dinner and listening to the rapids as we fell asleep.

We loved camping at Fairlawn! Kelly and her family are amazing hosts, they gave us a tour upon arrival and made sure we were well taken care of during our stay. Beautifully maintained camping area on the river, it doesn't get better than that! Put in your boats or tubes at Claytor boat launch for a nice half-day float into the campsite.

Great flat grassy camping area. Kelly and family were more than great welcoming hosts! Would definitely stay here again. Easy paddle up access for boaters right along the New River. A ton of parking available also for drive in camping.

Peaceful Riverside Camp

This is a very nice campsite right next to the New River near Radford. The host, Kelly, was very accommodating. I asked if hammock camping was possible and she suggested the Sycamore site and provided a hammock stand.y hammock was too long for the stand but I was able to set up between two trees not more than 10 feet from the rivers edge. It was great to listen to the sound of the river at night. There are train tracks across the river but I rarely heard any noise. There is a porta potty on site and Kelly provided water in a Jerry can for general use. The distance from the parking lot to my site was about 25 yards so it was easy to carry gear from my car to the site. All in all a wonderful stay and I would definitely stay there again!

Sycamore was one of the most lovely hip camps. I have ever enjoyed staying at Riverfront easy access to the water fire pits well maintained and clean. I can’t wait to come back there again Paddle down the river get out spend the night and then paddle down the river it’s a perfect space.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Riverside Paradise! Unrivaled Access & Fantastic Hosts at Fairlawn Riverfront Our stay at Fairlawn Riverfront was absolutely incredible. We had a great time from start to finish, and this spot has easily become one of our favorite camping destinations. What makes this place so special: * Unrivaled New River Access: You are truly just steps away from the water. The direct access made it incredibly easy to launch our tubes, go fishing, and just sit by the riverbank to watch the water pass by. The views are spectacular. * Excellent Hosts: The hosts went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. They were friendly, highly responsive, and made sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable and stress-free stay. * Perfect Atmosphere: The layout gives you a true outdoor escape while still feeling safe and well-managed. If you are looking for a peaceful getaway with unbeatable river views and top-notch hospitality, we cannot recommend Fairlawn Riverfront enough. We will definitely be back!
