Paddy Run is the PERFECT camping getaway! The land is perfect, well-kept, private, and there are amenities, if needed, like bathrooms, water, trash, and kitchen. While the location is pretty "remote" for us city/suburb-dwellers, it was super easy to find with Google maps. The drive over the gravel roads was quite beautiful.
The campsite has 360 views of the mountains and a huge clearing so you can spread out. The field is clear and level and bugs were minimal in early April. The firepit is huge, well maintained (with a grill you can put on rocks or something), and there was free firewood near the lodge that we brought to the campsite in a truck. Super convenient!
The only other human sounds we heard was nearby hunting or shooting practice for a total of maybe 10 minutes during our stay. It was not problematic at all, just a reminder that you're in a rural area.
We cut our trip short just due to weather the last morning of our trip but otherwise, we had fun and really enjoyed this location. We'll definitely be back!

I am incredibly happy and already missing our trip in this place Paddy’s camp, it was one of the best camping spot that we been too, and could not asked for anything else from the lodge that has everything in it, hot water, swimming pool area it was just a fun night, to the owner that was very friendly and helpful and let us stay even they’re away thank you so much for trusting us. We got the whole camp all to ourselves during our camping trip and it was the best night ever. From the initial inquiries to the final day of our trip they went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of our trip was stress free and unforgettable one. To the Owner Ms. Amy thank you for taking time to make sure we are still entertained even you’re away.
I am very grateful and I wholeheartedly recommend this Camp site Paddy’s camp, to anyone seeking a truly remarkable experience.

This is one of the best camps we ever had. Kids love the pool above all! My husband loves the free firewoods. The owner and Diane were very nice and gracious for allowing us early check in and late check out. Planning our next trip with friends already!

My friends and I have been coming here for years now. We always have the best time with our secluded campsite with plenty of room for the dogs to run around. Amy and the other hosts are super kind and accommodating. The bathrooms and cabin are always stocked and spotless. I cannot recommend this place enough!

We had a wonderful time! It is so beautiful and peaceful! We explored, swam, and played tether ball when it wasn't raining and played basketball and relaxed when it was. There's so much space and the views are amazing! We can't wait to come back with friends!

What a fantastic experience!!! Such a beautiful spacious field, neat bathhouse and a nice swimming pool. The star gazing was breathtaking - I saw milky way for the first time in a while. Absolutely love this campground and I will definitely come back. It is a very special place.

Like other reviewers, I also hesitate to recommend this wonderful camp only out of fear that it would become too popular and hard to reserve in the future. The amenities provided were perfect for unforeseen weather and unprepared first time campers. There was a full kitchen, a bathhouse with flush toilets and hot showers. The pool was an added bonus and was well maintained. I had site one and two but all three sites were well spaced out and far from a quiet road so no worries on noise and other disturbances. The reception was spotty if you care. Amy was very responsive and helpful in the process and we will definitely be back!

Its hard for me to write a review because I dont want folks to know how much we love this place. Beautiful area, nestled in the mountains bear great hikes, has a pool for summer months and flat land for camping. Host Amy is always super responsive and polite. We will be back.

This is our second stay at the Wilderness Retreat within a year, and we will keep coming back! We love the seclusion of the campgrounds while also having any amenity there if needed. Great for groups, first time campers, and dogs! I highly recommend this place to anyone and Amy is such a responsive host who made sure the campground was in pristine condition for our arrival.

Wow! Our stay at Camp Paddy Run was better than we could have expected. Each year, my friends and I like to do a fall camping trip. This year we had 5 dogs coming with us and we did not want to be *those* annoying people with loud dogs at the campsite. The Retreat was super secluded, private and had all the amenities (plus more!) we could have wanted. The campsite consists of a large 25 acre field where we were able to park and pitch out tents anywhere. There was also a HUGE fire pit for us to socialize around- the free firewood was an amazing benefit! There is a pool house that has showers and toilets near where we camped. Additionally, there is a lodge with a full kitchen nearby. We didn't need to use it, but it was great knowing it was there. There is also a large pavilion with picnic tables underneath. This was exactly what we were looking for and we can't wait to stay here every year!

Wilderness Retreat in Star Tannery
Our group couldn’t stop raving about this experience – it was wonderful to have the entire space to ourselves (we reserved both sites) and having access to a full kitchen and bathrooms was quite the luxury. We had a hard time figuring out where to set up our tents because the possibilities were endless! On top of that, Amy was a fantastic host – warm, welcoming, attentive and responsive. We plan to return with a larger group and hopefully more time to explore the expansive, beautiful property. Highly recommend!

Amy met us to give us the overview of the property, and we enjoyed our time there. The kids enjoyed hiking around the property, and playing tetherball, gaga, basketball, and volleyball on the grounds. Facilities are well maintained, and met our needs. We enjoyed the large central field, and views of mountain ranges on both sides.

Wilderness Retreat in Star Tannery
We met some friends here for a night to hang out before going to Shenandoah Park. The site was large, well kept, and Amy went above and beyond to welcome us and help us maintain social distancing practices. The facilities were clean and well stocked. The grounds were peaceful and secluded from the world around. Not even Verizon could reach us there!

Fantastic site, we will most certainly return. The camp site was perfect for our group of 9. The area was nestled in between two mountains, blessed with beautiful trees and flat open land. The amenities (bathrooms) were perfect as we had young children. Highly recommend.

This camp is a great alternative to the standard Shenandoah National Park offerings. If traveling with kids and/or a group, I would likely recommend Paddy's Run over most car camping options nearby (in which you are cramped near other campers) A huge property with much to explore, solitude, and that is relatively close to the NoVA/ DC.

We had a great stay! It was a choose-your-own-adventure style of camping; The property had a little bit of everything and it was great to have all the amenities. We liked having the giant space to explore to ourselves and the different options for cooking/grilling. There were so many locations to set up the tent we had difficulties finding the perfect spot but once we were all set up it was fantastic!

Paddy’s Run was simply extraordinary. It is the most beautiful property and you immediately feel at home. Amy is an amazing host - even making campfire donuts for us Sunday morning. There is so much to do - jokes, b-ball, gaga ball, swimming, grills, fire pits and lots more. But more than anything else the place just has a spiritual beauty and the perfect nights sky. We cannot wait to return.

We had THE BEST experience here for Labor Day weekend! Tons of space to spread out, gorgeous views of mountains all around, beautiful sunsets and sunrises and SO MANY stars! Perfect for novice campers and for families concerned about social distancing. Any assigned our family our own bathroom (with hot and cold water, showers, etc.) and kids loved the pool! The lodge was a great spot to take a break from the heat, store ice, have access to a refrigerator, etc. Tons of games and activities for kids - tetherball, volleyball, basketball, little hikes on site, etc. Amy was very accommodating and offered lots of great ideas. Campfire donuts on Sunday morning were an awesome surprise as well! No complaints - we had a great time!

From a wonderful host to a great time outdoors, Retreat at Paddy's Run more than met our expectations. The large field provided a perfect space to enjoy the dark sky and meteors. And the pool during the day provided some reprieve from the heat. Now when I can book another stay...

We enjoyed every bit of our weekend at Paddy Run Camp. The swimming pool was a welcome break from the humid weather and we were grateful to Amy for letting us access the lodge and eat inside as it was raining hard on Saturday night. We will definitely go back!

What an incredibly special place! We loved camping at Paddy's Run. The site is beautiful, with lovely views, a 25 acre field for running around, a scenic BBQ spot, a fire pit and of course the above ground pool. It is a camp from the 60s/70s, well loved over the years but in great shape for camping and it felt very special to be there with so few people on the site. Amy is an incredible host, who clearly loves the camp, the place and its mission. She went above and beyond to help us make the most of our time there. We can't wait to visit again and highly recommend the HipCamp experience there.
