Weekend Trip to 5D RANCH

5D is a great place to visit and enjoy nature. Expansive campsites with miles and miles of trails. Each site is spread out so if there are others, you may not even notice. Its a great spot for fishing as I pulled one up on the third cast. Julie is very kind and makes it easy. I was hesitant to review as I'd like to keep this place my secret.

Weekend Trip to Sandhill Farms Tent Camping

Great place would come back in future. Nice and peaceful with cows and animals. Was hard to find place was the only issue, just use the coordinates to find it there is not an address.

The land was so beautiful! There are trails you can hike on the property and there is a lake with boats and life vests. The kids had a blast! We will definitely be coming back here.

I absolutely love this place, very peaceful. Unfortunately, due to weather, had to cut the trip short. Will definitely be returning when the weather gets nicer!

We had a great time, the campsites were perfect. The host was kind and helpful. The only thing that stressed us out were the bark scorpions near the lake. We know this isn’t something that can be helped by the host but we do want people to beware as they are highly venomous! We didn’t see any at the campsite and have genuinely nothing but positive things to say about the campsite itself.

Weekend Trip to Briers Ranch Primitive Camping

I really love this place. That is why I have been here seven or eight times. I always feel safe, and love the fact you can pick anywhere you want to camp. My wife and I have our special little spot picked out where we can see the sun rise. It’s just a great place to go and really don’t want to go anywhere else honestly.

Just took my second trip here and it was even better than the first time! The lake and trails are so beautiful, and the ranch dog Quigley showed up and made an amazing trail guide!!

Great property just a short trip from Houston. We were met at the entrance by the property manager and he gave us a quick tour. Public restroom and shower to use if needed and free range to explore most of the property. Scenic prairie views and the campsites had a table set up with a fire ring already.

Weekend Trip to CAMP JOY - RV / TENTS CALDWELL, TX

My husband and I loved the property at Camp Joy. Everything is easily accessible and very well kept. We ended up being the only 2 campers on the property when we went but still had a very family feel as it is not very big but nicely spaced. We plan on visiting again. Also, even though not met in person, Ms. Joy was not only very informative but soo kind and welcoming in our back and forth conversations on the app.

Easy to find, site 19 was pretty secluded. Everything was clean, Julie was super friendly and helpful. The whole 5D Ranch was very pretty, with a water feature and even boats available to use. There was a nice bathroom at the entrance to the campsite area that even had a shower. Everything was great!

Very large forested area with ample space for camping. Came with an outhouse as well as a boat to use for fishing on the lake.

Best thing is that it was close by. Less than 30 minutes from my house. A great quick getaway, especially for people who have never been camping before and won’t travel very far. Julie is also very sweet and gave me a chore in advance and help me to pick out the campsite.

William and Dawn were so helpful and welcoming! They ensured I had everything I needed and showed me to my spot. I was solo tent camping with three dogs and we had a great time by the pond. They even let me use the row boat! I was the only visitor that weekend, but all the camp spots were spaced very far apart offering great privacy. What a beautiful 300 acres near the river- we’ll definitely be back. 🏕️

We had a really good time. The directions are very clear and it was easy to find the place. Melanie greeted us upon arrival and checked on us quite regularly along with her husband. She brought us fresh eggs, honey, rosemary and onions that we cooked with during pur stay. The kids enjoyed the goats and dogs and all the other animals there. We tent camped alongside my parents RV and had plenty of space. The tank had fish too that was fun as well. Would definitely recommend to all my friends and family.

A lot of trees, with some open areas. There are a lot of deer if you are up early in the morning. Also, sandy trails for walking around to see the wildlife. There is a small tank that sometimes in fall and spring have migrating ducks. A larger pond for fishing has catfish. We have horses that you are allowed to pet and brush if you make arrangements with the owners of the ranch first. We sell farm fresh eggs. Campfires allowed if we're not in a burn ban. Plenty of wood around, but may have to bring something to chop up the larger pieces. You will need to provide your own toilet facilities. There is no water, no electric, no internet, poor phone service. If you don't have a 4WD, we can still get you to your camping spot.

We searched and searched looked at a lot of properties North of the Woodlands, to build our home. On a Saturday morning, my husband told me about a dream of 3 very tall and Magnificent Trees, soaring way up in the sky. A few days later we were walking through the forest looking at a 20 acre tract of land for sale with our realtor, I'm thinking, "oh how would we ever get this cleared, this is a lot of work" Then, up ahead was a clearing and right in the middle were 3 of the tallest, most magnificent Cedar trees. They were perfectly planted standing side by side. We both looked at each other and said," Oh this must be it". The rest is history. Joy Moore bought this fixer-upper in 1986 when the oilfield went under, at a youngster in her early twenties and has owned ever since. Lake Somerville is known for the best fishing lake in Texas. Deer run plentiful on the property and will come up close and personal when fed corn. So, stop and pick up a sack or two of deer corn before arrival. The closest city is about a 20 minute drive to Somerville so make sure to have everything you need before camping. Established in 1877 by the Nelius Family, the ranch began as a cotton and cattle farming operation, utilizing horses in the fields until 1948. In the 1950s, Trenckmann Nelius diversified the ranch by introducing chicken and egg production, while still raising cattle and growing maize to feed the chickens. In 1973, Trenckmann and Margie Nelius transformed their vision into reality by founding Coushatte Recreation Ranch, initially offering just 24 campsites. Over the years, the campground has expanded significantly to accommodate 225 sites, complete with full hookups for both 30 and 50 amp service. The campground's name pays homage to the Coushatte Indians, and visitors can explore an Indian Mound on the property, where numerous arrowheads have been discovered. After many years of dedicated management, Trenckmann and Margie passed the torch to their son Howard and his wife Pamela, who operated the ranch until November 2019. The campground is now under the ownership of George Jarkesy, who aims to enhance the experience for guests.
