This cedar cabin was built in the late 1950's and was the first building in Birch Creek Subdivision and was used as the real estate office when selling land for Subdivision. Joy Moore bought this fixer-upper in 1986 when the oilfield went under, at a youngster in her early twenties and has owned ever since. Lake Somerville is known for the best fishing lake in Texas. Deer run plentiful on the property and will come up close and personal when fed corn. So, stop and pick up a sack or two of deer corn before arrival. The closest city is about a 20 minute drive to Somerville so make sure to have everything you need before camping. Lake Somerville Cabin private pond
Super cute little fishing cabin that was stocked with everything we needed for a small thanksgiving celebration with our adult kids and pets. We enjoyed fishing at the lake just around the corner. Our only drawback was the burn ban that prohibited s'mores over the fire pit each night, but we can only blame the Texas weather for that. We had a great stay and would come back again. Thank you Joy!

Lake Somerville Cabin private pond
Our 2 boys (6 & 9) and my wife and I had a great time. The cabin was perfect. Bunkbeds for the kids and a master bedroom for us; smart TV’s in bedroom and living room. Internet was good; had 5g and regular WiFi so I was able to do a little emergency work from laptop. Kitchen is fully functional with utensils, cookware and dishes/cups so all you need is to bring food and drink. As previous reviews stated it is right next to the state park entrance; we rode our bikes down to the park and rode on the trails before going fishing. The fire pit was great and we fed the deer. This was amazing for the kids. The deer literally will come within 20 feet of you. My oldest was worried a buck would charge him like a bull might. Highly recommend this place.

It is a beautifully decorated cabin with everything you need and more to be extremely comfortable. It has a great surrounding area and property, with a awesome 2 story deck right on the pond . We spread corn around the yard as Joy suggested and it was awesome the deer started in slowing and eventually there was quite a few and my grandsons were amazed !! What a extra treat to the facilities ! We love it because it super close to Birch Creek State Park which is why planned her place , literly right down the street and you dead end into the park , and we plan to day use the park ,it was perfect !!

Awesome Cabin and Fantastic Host!

We had a wonderful stay here at the Cabin and Great Host! Located right outside the entrance of Birch creek state park this cabin was a perfect spot for my family. We enjoyed the blue lagoon pond area in the backyard which has a very nice deck with tables and a bonus viewing deck above. My daughter enjoyed feeding the fish off the deck. Deer came around at dash and some slept in the yard over night, was a great addition.The cabin itself is cozy with a really nice kitchen and gas stove. The bedroom is 2 bunk beds so four beds with one being a full/queen and worked fine and a nice little bathroom stocked and ready to go.. The place was clean and everything in the kitchen was brand new and had all the appliance one would need for the trip. Loved the Gas stove. The couch in the living room isn’t very comfortable but didn’t use it much. Joy was an extreme help with any questions, very thoughtful, and we ate at the local place she suggested. Has a great gas grill for cooking and we had a great time. Cons: there are stickers in the grass so the little one and us got stabbed a few times (they do have sidewalk for most of the yard to the deck/pond), no toilet paper allowed in toilet, yard privacy from road as it is on a corner lot with no privacy fence. Those were very small things to deal with as the overall experience was great and at the right price. We would for sure stay here again next time visiting the area.
