Pretty disappointing. The cabin stunk horrible like mold overpowering smell. The fridge amended smelled like something rotted in it we cleaned it with bleach wipes didn't help at at, the grass was like 8jnches long halt been cut or weed wacked in wow some time. There were no lights like the pictures showed online going to the outhouse and 2 smaller kids were with. The door doesn't latch there is NO futon either 2 rooms are boarded up and closed off. It was just super dirty stinky no up keep at all. The spot on the beach is pretty and secluded that's about all.

We didn't spend a lot of time at the cabin as we took several day trips. The cabin met our needs. There were a few minor issues that Mark addressed immediately. Mark was a great host. The lake is beautiful and the call of the loon each night was so peaceful.

The cabin was great! Marko was really welcoming and helpful and there were even a few hidden surprise creature comforts like books and games, a hot plate, and a fire pit all stocked and ready to be lit. AND a glow in the dark toilet seat for night time!!
This booking was last minute for us since our other plans went through, but I would love to come back to Birch Lake again!

Cabin on Birch Lake
A great rustic cabin, land, and lake! We loved spending our time on kayaks, fishing, swimming, having a bonfire, and just enjoying the getaway! We normally camp without any facilities so having some electricity, clean outhouse, and a shelter to sleep and escape the mosquitoes was wonderful. We hope to be back again next year!

Cabin on Birch Lake
Birch Lake is a wonderful place to canoe/kayak around with many islands to explore and undeveloped shoreline. The first night we were put to sleep by loons and trumpet swans. There were a lot of mosquitoes of course but the two thermacell units we brought kept it comfortable and fine to be outside in the yard. We slept in tents but the little cottage was a cozy retreat for playing games and preparing food and having electricity was a big plus.
Marko was incredibly helpful and friendly. He saved us when we had some problems with our car by offering the use of his tools to fix it. He and his family were wonderful hosts who let us do our thing in our private space but were there when we needed them.

What’ a great weekend amazing lake amazing fishing was just what the family needed. Mark was a great host will definitely be back again this summer Babbitt is a nice little town the lake is huge. Loved it all

Amazing experience! Just make sure to bring either jugs of water or a water filter! Also, deep wood mosquito 🦟 spray & fogger helped to keep the buggers at bay:) super cozy cabin and loved we were able to use the paddle boat and fish off the dock! Lots of good memories made. Will definitely be back! Thanks again!!

Cabin on Birch Lake
Mark and his family were warm and welcoming. The cabin has a wonderful location right by the lake. The scenery is breathtaking, so beautiful and relaxing. The kitchen is pretty basic but as expected for camping. You can use water from the lake for non potable needs and bring lots of potable water otherwise. The only downside were the mosquitoes which Mark warned us about. We bought a camping screen and that helped a lot. That and bug spray is needed.

Our stay at the Cabin on Birch Lake was nothing short of amazing. Our plans for our weekend up North unexpectedly got canceled soon after they started, so we decided to book here instead of turning around a going home. Here are just a few things we loved about this place:
1. 1950's log cabin: Simple and cozy. It was fun to stay in an old-style cabin and live more simply for a few days. The modern-day features in the cabin are a mini-fridge, microwave, cozy couches, and outlets. This was a perfect set up for us since we planned to spend most of the daytime outside and come back to the cabin to relax, eat, and wind down. My favorite moment in the cabin was opening the windows and listening the the loons while going to bed.
2. Birch Lake = hidden gem: We explored different islands on the lake, saw wildlife (we saw swans, eagles, beavers, & otters!!), and overall just had a blast while kayaking around. The lake is long and thin so the water tends to be less choppy and you also get to explore so much shoreline!
3. DOGS!! Tilda and Freya have our hearts. They are chatty cattle dogs who are sooooo entertaining to watch play. Be prepared for a strong introduction and some barks, but know that's the nature of the breed and they just love talking.
I could keep going, but basically if you are looking for a simple place to escape to in the Northern MN woods, this is your place.

This was our second stay at this cabin and we were very pleased. Mark made some updates, including a new outhouse that is much closer to the cabin. Once again, our spur of the moment trip was well accommodated. Thanks Mark!

Beautiful location! Sandy beach and easy access to explore Birch Lake. A very nice camping experience and the cabin suited our needs well. Just bring a water filter and a thermacell to keep the flies and mosquitoes tolerable.

I'm already excited to book this for next year! Marko was an amazing host! I came over prepared, the cabin has all the amenities I could ask for. Lovely place for a family vacation with the dogs. I caught a wallet within 20 mins of fishing. 5/5 stars. ❤️ Happy camper!

This is a sweet spot on a beautiful lake & Marko let us use his boats. But the cabin was really dirty and dusty- we’re ok with rustic but cobwebs, rotting floors in the bedroom and dirt/debris pretty much everywhere was a surprise.

Loved how quiet it is in the birch lake area, woke up many times to the haunting sound of loon calls in the morning. Very nice cabin! We had so much fun on this trip!! We will definitely be going back to this location!

What are getaway this was! 😀 Absolutely perfect. This was a trip we definitely will never forget. My fiance and I are in love with the camping lifestyle and had so much fun here at this cabin. We went fishing, had lunch out in the canoe in the middle of the lake, explored Ely for a few hours when it rained, the cards by the fire and cooked all of our food over the campfire. 🔥 (There is a grill provided though if you prefer that) Loved every second of this experience. Especially going out to Marko and his family's private island and little did I know my boyfriend who is now officially my fiance was planning to propose and of course I said yes 😍 truly the most beautiful location to have it happen. Thank you so much for your hospitality and extremely thank you for the flowers as well as your friendly faces ☺️ we love this so so much and we'll definitely be coming back and telling our friends and family about this beautiful rustic cabin.

Honestly this place has everything you could need for experiencing summer in northern Minnesota. Yes, there are mosquitos, bring your bug spray. Yes, I saw spiders in the outhouse, but they kept to themselves, as did I.
Marko the host is extremely personable and accommodating. We brought our kids 4 and 10 and this trip was a lot of educational firsts for them.
The cabin is has sleeping spaces, kitchen wear, a fridge, etc. There’s a fire pit with wood provided, space for the dog to run and be silly with their dog Freya, gas or charcoal grill for cooking, an overhang on the porch for the rain…. The beach is perfectly shallow for your little ones to swim, and fish do bite right off the dock. Prior reviews talked about the cabin seeming like a “wooden tent” but it’s so much more money that.
Marko sent friends to greet us even though he was out of town when we booked. We had all needed but that was a nice gesture before he came down to personally meet us on our last day. This cabin is where he stayed with his grandma as a kid and it’s an honor to have enjoyed it with our children - who had the opportunity to learn a lot of new skills that do not involve electrics!
Absolutely a must, even if just once!

This is such a lovely spot to relax and enjoy the lake. Marko is a great host and is very helpful in making sure one has what one needs. The cabin is simple and clean, with plenty of windows for fresh air. Definitely check this place out if you’re looking for a quiet place on a lake without all the noise.

Marko was an amazing host and we can’t wait to go back! The cabin is cozy and very spacious, I’m so happy we had access to a fridge. The property is beautiful, my son ran and swam his little heart out. We took out the boats and explored all around birch lake which was so relaxing and beautiful. Definitely a new favorite summer spot for our family.

Fantastic spot on Birch Lake! Sandy beach and good fishing right from the dock in front of the cabin. Marko is a great host, very responsive and helpful. The cabin is rustic but clean and has all the basic stuff you need for an enjoyable stay.
