Set along a quiet Minnesota lakeshore, our family-owned resort blends classic Up North cabin stays with light agrotourism and wide-open space to explore. Guests can choose from cozy cabins, tent sites, or RV sites, then spend their days swimming and fishing from the dock, paddling the lake with complimentary kayaks and pedal boats, or renting a boat for a longer adventure. Wander the grounds, gather around evening campfires, and visit the working barn, where chickens, sheep, and goats are part of daily life—an authentic farm presence that adds charm without feeling like a petting zoo. When you’re ready to mix in some play, enjoy our game room, indoor golf simulator, or a friendly match on the outdoor giant chess board. Mornings start slow with coffee and birdsong, days unfold with water time and wandering, and nights end under star-filled skies—perfect for travelers seeking nature, comfort, and a genuine rural experience.

The 80-acre property is carved out of a Norway pine plantation. Sites are approximately 10,000 square ft. in size with about 50 ft. of trees between each site for semi-privacy. We have tried to maintain a balance of nature while making the sites as RV friendly as possible. Although the property is located in the country, it is located along a state highway for easy access and there are three towns and many amenities and recreational venues within 15 minutes drive. Currently no hook-ups, but there is a yard hydrant and dump station. There are also portable restrooms on site.

Goldie is open for the summer! Goldie is an original early 1900's wooden caboose that ran on the DMIR railroad. She was re-designed in 1912 to be safer on the tracks (and her length extended so she wouldn't fall over). She ran the tracks of the Iron Range until retirement in 1968. She's been fully renovated with a few modern conveniences. We've re-used as much of the original wood as possible, and repurposed many things into other things so that we could keep the history alive. My husband is the carpenter that brought her to life and I'm the one that gave her some paint and design. Now, she's ready for people again, and to keep telling her story to others. Please...be our guest...and let Goldie be your host. The caboose sits about 50 yards from the house, but it tucked into the trees and feels very private. There is a private trail that leads from the caboose to the lake. Goldie has a max occupancy of 2 people due to space constraints. Please no pets since there are wooden floors. If you have a service dog, of course it is welcome - please reach out to me about that detail. She also offers: ~ 1 very generous bundle of firewood included with stay (extra may be purchased for $5) ~ Hot and cold running water ~ A shower ~A/C and heat ~Hot water kettle for coffee, tea and cocoa (or oatmeal, etc) ~Paper dishes, plastic utensils and ceramic mugs ~Microwave ~Mini fridge ~One queen sized memory foam bed ~ Bath Towels, hand towels and wash towels ~Flush Toilet ~Fire ring, picnic table and lake access (kayaks available to use for free) ~Wifi access ** There is no cable TV, but we have a DVD player and some movies to choose from. Also there are some games to play. We do have pets and they do run around the yard freely. There are two dogs that love to romp and say hi (a female Golden Retriever and a female Griffon mix) and a female cat that does the same. They are super friendly, but they will come to visit you at the lake. Our lake is an "environmental lake" so while we keep a small beach area that you are welcome to use, it is not free of lily pads or weeds. It's simple, but fully swimm-able (the Golden Retriever keeps the first 8 feet of water weed free with her swimming!). You are welcome to use the dock and chairs we keep there for breezy evenings or to take a dip to cool off. We are only 2i-sh miles from town with gas, food, ice cream, coffee shop, resaturants, small town shopping and a donut shop. There is a paved rail trail just down our street that runs both directions for many miles. Bikes are welcome! (please leave ATVs at home).

Come enjoy a relaxing vacation in our two beautiful lakeside cabins! Each cabin can accommodate up to 4 people. Full descriptions of each cabin can be found on each listing. Outside, enjoy a peaceful campfire in the fire pit, listen to the enchanting calls of loons, watch eagles and herons fishing, and relax while enjoying the vast variety of songbirds. At night, our dark skies let you see the Milky Way and countless stars and planets! Full disclosure, there isn't a television or wifi, so just take a technology break and get back to nature or bring a good book. Your own data plan on your mobile device will likely get reception, but we can't guarantee it. If time and weather permits, we would even be happy to give you a pontoon ride. Want to explore the area? Just a few miles away is the 49-mile multi-use Heartland Trail, where you can enjoy a quiet walk, run, or bike ride through a paved, wooded, level trail. Within ten miles are plentiful restaurants and stores in Park Rapids, Dorset, and Nevis. There are often music festivals throughout the summer, and several of the restaurants and bars host live music, some of which are played by Debbie, one of your two hosts! You can even take a 30-mile drive to Itasca State Park, home to the headwaters of the Mississippi River, where you can walk right across the headwaters!

This is home, a realization of a lifelong dream of living in the country. The land is magical. Our animals are our family. Learn more about this land: If you like privacy you'll love our 200 acre haven. Come up the long driveway and experience the spacious view of the open hay field. Camp in the open or tucked away in the trees. You choose the spot as long as it's not in the horse pasture, cow pasture when cows are in, or in the hay field when hay is long before it's cut. Hay field would be off limits roughly late June to Mid July during optimal growth time and cutting. Note: This is a primitive camping experience. We offer no amenities, no toilets, no water. We are a 20 minute drive from the North Entrance to Itasca State Park and the Headwaters of the Mississippi. LaSalle Lake State Recreation Area is also just a few minutes down the road from us. Located on the Pine River just minutes from Crosby/Ironton with wooded mature trees that offer privacy. The land is quiet and calm. River is clear and varies in depth depending on the season. The Pine River State Water Trail flows gently through the jack pine forests and quiet water of west central Minnesota. The lake and hill country in this area illustrate classic glacial land forms. With easy access to a public launch and within a half mile of the Mississippi River it is a perfect spot for exploring some of Minnesota's greatest waterways, lakes and forests. Property backs up to privately owned conservation land. Site is mostly primitive with electricity available. Outhouse bathroom. Access to property is through a unpaved wrap around driveway. This is northern Minnesota in the Forest on a River so please be prepared for bugs and bring the appropriate clothing and bug spray/netting etc. We recommend Deep Woods with Deet! Minutes away from access to Cuyuna trails, Crosby, Ironton and Emily, as well as nearby Nisswa and Crosslake. This central location offers access to any and all amenities. After a day on the trails, in town, or on the water, an evening overlooking the river is a perfect way to end the day. Wind down, relax and enjoy the trees, water and nature surrounding you. Pack in and pack out trash/recycling. Keep the forest and animals safe! Please be respectful of the property and the neighbors/neighborhood. Keep all vehicles and campers off the newly installed drain field and buried septic tank. When leaving please take all trash/recycling with you so it doesn't end up in the water or feeding the wildlife. :) Enjoy the amazing area! **Please note there is no running water available (well pump not currently working). Cozy Woman Lake Woodland Cabin

14. Cozy Woman Lake Woodland Cabin

18mi from Leech Lake Recreation Area · 1 site
Cozy, minimalist-style cabin on 24 beautiful acres with unique peninsula frontage on Woman Lake. Enjoy all the comforts of modern amenities surrounded by the beauty of nature. Snuggle up in the great room next to the warmth of the wood-burning stove, relax on the spacious deck or around a campfire, and explore the wildlife, trails, lakeshore, and the waters of Woman Lake. Great for families, small groups, and people who love to fish. There's plenty of space for your boat and endless lakes in the area to explore! The cabin is nestled in the woods on a ridge among a grove of older pines, away from the lakeshore. Take a short hike down the ridge to reach the shore and enjoy a private peninsula in Woman Lake's Hunters Bay. The west side of the bay is teeming with wildlife. Enjoy the resident bald eagle pair nesting in the neighbor's pine, as well as a nearby beaver lodge and loon's nest. Much of the property to the west is bordered by state land, perfect for privacy, nature hikes, and hunting. The cabin features neutral colors, pine ceilings, minimal décor, excellent use of space, and abundant windows, so you can enjoy plenty of natural light and views of the surrounding woods. The great room includes comfortable leather furniture, a dining table, a 75-inch Smart TV with a PS4, and a cozy wood stove. The thoughtfully designed galley kitchen has all the essentials and a large pantry. There's also a breakfast nook and work area with an additional dining table and chairs. The main-level bedroom has a queen bed and plenty of closet space. The loft features two queen beds and one single bed. The bathroom includes a shower and a heater/exhaust fan. A washer and dryer are also provided. Other things to note: The lakeshore is beautiful, but it requires a short walk along the gravel road followed by a short hike down to the water, where you'll find metal chairs and a dock. The dock is very basic but functional, and a boat can be tied to it. Aquatic plants become more abundant in the water later in the summer. The dock is available from Memorial Day through Labor Day. We are continuing to improve the lakeshore by finishing steps down the slope and hope to add a longer dock in the future. Please reach out with any questions.

Mike and Loellen discovered Ruttger’s Camping Resort in the winter of 2005 while driving around the area and scanning websites for trailers. We bought a trailer on a seasonal site and have thoroughly enjoyed our summers here ever since! Our sons grew up on the lake, boating and fishing and exploring the area and we have developed a wonderful lake-family. We have watched Bill and Candy Ruttger build the resort into the beautiful property that it is today and feel privileged to have the opportunity to now share it with you. Under our new ownership and with a new name, Sunset Pines MN in January 2023, we are eager to carry on the legacy created by our friends and mentors. We welcome you to enjoy our piece of “Up North” Minnesota lake-life with your family and friends, and don’t forget to enjoy a sunset or two! Mike & Loellen

Don’t let the name fool you. The only thing that sucks about Leech Lake is knowing you’ll eventually have to leave! Trust us, with over 300 miles of shoreline to explore, this place will make you want to ask for a few more days off. Settle in among the birch and pine trees that line this reservoir and breathe in the beauty of 126,000 acres of cool, clear water. A crackling campfire at the lake’s well-maintained campground is perfect for a quick dry-off after exploring the marshlands or crouching by the shore to catch a glimpse of a local heron or loon.

With handy access to trails, picnic areas, and a moor for your boat, your site will be an ideal spot to recharge and plan for the next day. And if the lake’s got you itching for fish, there are enough perch and pike here for the whole crew.
