Such a beautiful hideout in the woods. Paul was a wonderful host from his house nearby. Beyond that, we were surrounded by beautiful woods, the lake, and the quiet. Within an hour of Bemidji and even closer to Itasca State Park. Would recommend to anyone!
We adored our stay! Our highlights were cooking over the fire, wildlife watching (we saw a few loons, some frogs, a painted turtle, lots of fish, some deer and a beaver!). We loved the canoe — the lake is beautiful and serene. We even did a little fishing and caught 3 bluegill and cooked them up for dinner. Our senior pup, Hank, was also absolutely in heaven. We found the stay private, deeply connected to nature, comfortable, and romantic. If you’re looking for a place to unplug & recharge — this is a beautiful spot to do so!

We have stayed twice now and it is a comfy spot in a beautiful location. The cottage has everything you need and Paul will answer any question you may have. Highly recommend!
Paul is a cordial, welcoming host, and very knowledgeable about area activities and sites. We also loved Piper, his wonderful dog. The woods are beautiful, and the lake is serene. The AC in the cabin helped with the high temperatures too. Unfortunately, our experience of the site wasn't the same as other reviewers'. It isn't possible to swim near the shore or off the doc because of lily pads, which also made getting the canoe out difficult. Although the bikes are really neat, they don't do well on the gravel, so you have to either transport them or ride them on the gravel and the highway to get to the trails. There are two short trail loops on the property, but the rest is inaccessible. The property does not feel secluded; his house is about 100 yards away, in full view of the cabin site with windows that look directly over it. There is a lot of shooting nearby, which disrupts the peace. There was also wood chipping and mowing on the property during our stay, which was disruptive. The outdoor furniture and deck were not cleared of cobwebs and dirt, which would be fine if we weren't paying for a prepared site, but we were. Also, there were random items left in the cabin - toiletry containers, a razor, and men's slippers; that didn't feel great. We also couldn't shower because of the high iron content in the water. We had a good time, and our dog had a GREAT time, but our experience didn't match the other reviews.
This is a wonderful rustic cottage on a beautiful little lake. It isn't fancy, but it has. everything you need to enjoy Northern Minnesota-style lake life. There are plenty of trails to explore on the property, and a canoe is included with the rental. Paul is a great host, and is eager to help with any issues and to keep you hip to the local music scene (Revel Brewing rocks, BTW). This location is in the middle of so much to do and to experience. I hope to return someday.

Absolutely amazing trip, there was four adults and two dogs and it fit us just perfectly. The location was amazing and there was so much to do! Paul and piper were great host and were so kind and helpful! Will definitely be back soon!! 10/10 would recommend
Paul was an excellent host. The cabin is secluded in his private property, except for his place which is separated by 300+ yards of woods. It's a quaint cottage with the comforts of home, situated Less than 100 yards from a pristine lake (also private).
Enjoy a fire ring, canoes, and an occasional loon.
Paul's right there if you need him along with trusty dog, Piper.
A phenomenal getaway.

Paul was an amazing host—great communication throughout our visit and so warmly welcoming. He’s found a beautiful piece of the world and takes genuine joy in sharing it with others. The cabin was comfy and well-appointed, with everything we needed to make our meals and then relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. We enjoyed canoeing from the dock just steps from the cabin, and also explored nearby Itasca State Park and the cute town of Nevis. Will definitely be back again!

A beautiful and secluded place to stay! We watched and listened to the loons from the dock as often as possible, launched the kayaks from the dock a very short walk from the cabin. I definitely recommend having your morning coffee (or tea) on the edge of the dock while listening to all of the nature, absolute best way to start a morning in my opinion. The bugs weren't bad at all either until we got to the other side of the lake
Our stay at Paul's Lakeside Cottage exceeded every expectation! Paul is an incredible host and made us feel right at home. One of the highlights was a sunset cruise on the lake that we'll never forget.
The cottage was the perfect home base for exploring Itasca State Park and Bemidji, while still offering a peaceful place to relax. We saw so much wildlife—including a bear sitting on the beaver dam across the lake!
Our dog, Piper, absolutely loved her stay and had so much fun playing with Paul's sweet dog, Piper. She definitely wasn't ready to leave!
If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway with an amazing host, this is it. We couldn't have asked for a better experience and can't wait to come back!

We had a great stay at Paul's cabin. Comfortable, clean, and quiet. Lot's to do and see in the area, whether it be people or nature centered. We're already thinking about our next trip back. Thanks, Paul (and Piper).

Beautiful private lake! Canoe on site. We caught bluegill of 3 types, crappie, bass and northern. Close to Itasca and Paul Bunyon State Forrest.
Kitchen full of appliances and stocked with supplies.
Clean bathroom. Shower, towels supplied.

Super cute place! Would definitely come back. We kayaked and also rented Paul's ebikes and rode to Thorpe tower.
I felt like I was at a private nature retreat. Watching and listening to the lake activity was magical. Loons, trumpet swans, beavers…..and the birds! Have your Merlin App ready to go and don’t forget your binoculars. The property is amazing, the host is amazing. Truly a special getaway, and a quick drive to Nevis, Itasca State Park and Park Rapids for local adventures. I can’t wait to go back.

We really enjoyed our stay here and would return. We loved using the wood burning stove in the cabin, letting our dog roam free on the land, and being on the water. The cabin is rustic yet comfortable. It had everything we needed. We loved being close to the headwaters and getting to know Paul and his pup Piper.
Paul's spot is absolutely beautiful. A thoughtful and spacious cabin right on the lake . Super comfortable bed , a wood stove, everything you need including a view. The lake is a wildlife viewing haven and you can see a ton of creatures if you take the time to walk around. The dock is a nice addition, and I went out and had ana maxing night of stargazing there. Played guitar by the fireplace, what more could you ask for . Oh wait, yeah Paul is rad. He has a ton of awesome stories and is living g his dream of being off grid. His pal Piper is an awesome pup as well. There is nothing g negative i can say. This place is a gem, as is the host.
Excellent place to hangout or base camp while exploring the area. Not far from everything you need. Paul was great to work with and even gave us a ride when the drive was soft and muddy.

Really nice little gem of a cabin on a lake. Location made it feel secluded. Paul the owner was very kind and lives in the house near the cabin. Lots of fun for the dogs off leash on the trails and frozen lake. Saw northern lights and had cozy times by the wood stove. Definitely coming back.
We had a wonderful winter stay at Paul's cabin. We enjoyed the frozen lakes by snowshoe with our dog and reading by the fireplace in the evening. Paul and his dog Piper were both great. Paul gave us good directions on places to snowshoe over coffee, Piper got along great with our dog and she even came along for a hike. We hope to make it back in another season. It's a beautiful spot.
We came here for our honeymoon and had an incredible experience. Paul was extremely kind and welcoming, and he took the time to show us his beautiful property. The cabin is amazing and has everything you need to enjoy a few days of rest and relaxation. We felt very comfortable and at peace during our stay. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this place.
Paul has a really comfortable place, beautiful location on a quiet shallow small lake. There is a canoe, and many other entertainment opportunities are there onsite or nearby. it is a quiet spot, enough room for small family and pet to shar with Paul and his dog Piper as i did. i wish I had a few more days to enjoy, but i'll be back!
Paul’s Lakeside Cottage is such a lovely peaceful relaxing retreat. The views of the lake are stunning!! Paul and Piper were so kind and welcoming. We hiked his property, explored the nearby forest and small towns nearby, and of course a nightly campfire-we heard loons and owls. We usually tent camp so this was a treat-Paul has everything you need! I highly recommend!!!!!!
Amazing place to stay! Paul goes above and beyond to make sure you’re comfortable. We forgot propane for our blackstone last stay, and without hesitation, he gave us two 1lb tanks. We’ve stayed with Paul twice and will be back soon!
I brought my 3 dogs up to Paul's for a much needed getaway and I honestly can't wait to go back (sans dogs at least once). Piper was there to greet me as soon as I opened my car door and she is such a sweetheart!
The views are goegeous, the hiking is a ton of fun with cool stuff to find, that stars are beautiful, the wildlife is fun to admire. I was able to listen to a loon, saw and heard my first raven in person, and watched a great blue heron that likes to feed out on the lake every day. There's definitely a reason all his reviews are absolutely glowing.
