We live on a 10 acre property with many mature trees and a walking path cut through the middle. We do not have any farm animals but there are some in area so the normal farm smells blow through on occasion. We have a 7 hole disc golf course on the property. We have six 30 amp/110 electric hook ups and 2 water hook ups. There is plenty of room to play yard games. The historic Dodd Ford bridge just 3 miles away. The small town of Amboy is just 4 miles away. There is a Casey's gas station and Dollar General in town and a couple different other dining options. The stars are amazing at night out here.

Goldie is open for the summer!
Goldie is an original early 1900's wooden caboose that ran on the DMIR railroad. She was re-designed in 1912 to be safer on the tracks (and her length extended so she wouldn't fall over). She ran the tracks of the Iron Range until retirement in 1968. She's been fully renovated with a few modern conveniences.
We've re-used as much of the original wood as possible, and repurposed many things into other things so that we could keep the history alive. My husband is the carpenter that brought her to life and I'm the one that gave her some paint and design.
Now, she's ready for people again, and to keep telling her story to others. Please...be our guest...and let Goldie be your host. The caboose sits about 50 yards from the house, but it tucked into the trees and feels very private. There is a private trail that leads from the caboose to the lake.
Goldie has a max occupancy of 2 people due to space constraints. Please no pets since there are wooden floors. If you have a service dog, of course it is welcome - please reach out to me about that detail.
She also offers:

We do have pets and they do run around the yard freely. There are two dogs that love to romp and say hi (a female Golden Retriever and a female Griffon mix) and a female cat that does the same. They are super friendly, but they will come to visit you at the lake.
Our lake is an "environmental lake" so while we keep a small beach area that you are welcome to use, it is not free of lily pads or weeds. It's simple, but fully swimm-able (the Golden Retriever keeps the first 8 feet of water weed free with her swimming!). You are welcome to use the dock and chairs we keep there for breezy evenings or to take a dip to cool off.
We are only 2i-sh miles from town with gas, food, ice cream, coffee shop, resaturants, small town shopping and a donut shop. There is a paved rail trail just down our street that runs both directions for many miles. Bikes are welcome! (please leave ATVs at home).

WOW!! Stayed in Lakeside #2 with our class B+ and tow car. Again, Wow! Very private, large area to park (could fit 2 our size), right on the water, and a private dock?? Power, water (and appeared to be sewer hookup but wasn’t positive it was open?). This site is without question the nicest HipCamp my wife and I have visited. (And we’ve been using them across the country and back multiple times in the last 3 yrs.)

This site was right beside the playground and zipline, which my children loved! From this site, I could hear & partially see my kids at the swimming beach. Also, this campground had very clean restrooms, which I appreciate having young children. They also had lots of activities for my kids to do/try - canoe, kayaks, paddleboards, disc golf, pickle ball, basketball, a big & small playground, and more! This was a very nice campground!

We adored our stay! Our highlights were cooking over the fire, wildlife watching (we saw a few loons, some frogs, a painted turtle, lots of fish, some deer and a beaver!). We loved the canoe — the lake is beautiful and serene. We even did a little fishing and caught 3 bluegill and cooked them up for dinner. Our senior pup, Hank, was also absolutely in heaven. We found the stay private, deeply connected to nature, comfortable, and romantic. If you’re looking for a place to unplug & recharge — this is a beautiful spot to do so!

Staying at Goldie the Caboose, was an absolute gift. The location is perfectly located on a clean, quiet lake and just off the Heartland Trail Bike/Walking path! Everything you would
need was supplied without any of the distracting extras. It was like camping but with a/c and running water—basically perfect! I loved my time connecting with nature and escaping the hustle of everyday life. Amy and Chris were so kind and their pups made missing my dog at home much easier! We loved our time at Amy and Chris’s property! Amy gave us great local recommendations for our adventure and we really enjoyed exploring the area. Goldie the caboose is beautiful- truly an incredible labor of love. Flipping through the photo book detailing her restoration/ renovation was super cool. We were incredibly cozy (the morning thunderstorm we experienced was amazing) and we really appreciated all of the amenities. The fire pit was great and listening to the loon calls was magical. We also loved meeting all of the pets! I will definitely be recommending this place to friends and family. 🙂

Jolene's camp is on a dead end road in a valley with a babbling brook. It is a very peaceful place with only the sounds of nature. Our tent site was perfectly flat, and there was both a picnic table and a fire pit. The portapotty was a short walk away, and there is lots to see on the way! I especially appreciated the solar lanterns along the fence line so there was no chance of wandering in the dark into unintended places. Rustic camping at its best! I would love to book again when we can spend more than just one night on this beautiful ranch.

The camp is exactly like the pictures. Beautiful and well maintained. The lake was great for swimming and the beach area was perfect. Every amenity you could wish for was available! Sand toys, beach chairs, umbrellas, paddle boards, life jackets, volleyball net and volley ball, soccer goals, game room with many games in a cool old garage, slack line… And I’m probably forgetting stuff. We tent camped at site T3 Firefly - which was a perfect little nook that felt private but was close to everything, and with a lake view. The only downside was a bit of a walk to the bathroom. Worth it!
The owners were very kind and helpful also. We had a 4 day stay. No one asked us to move anything or change anything. (Some other reviews made me worry that owners might be intrusive or picky but that was not our experience! Quite the opposite.) We had a tent, a canopy, three people and two dogs. We all had a great time and would definitely come back!

We had a group of 10 and split up between the three sites. This property is fantastic! Gary and Catherine were very responsive and gracious hosts. It was a great set up for a group that wanted to get a "real" camping experience but still have some comforts of home.

6 nights at Paul’s Lakeside Cottage
This is a wonderful rustic cottage on a beautiful little lake. It isn't fancy, but it has. everything you need to enjoy Northern Minnesota-style lake life. There are plenty of trails to explore on the property, and a canoe is included with the rental. Paul is a great host, and is eager to help with any issues and to keep you hip to the local music scene (Revel Brewing rocks, BTW). This location is in the middle of so much to do and to experience. I hope to return someday.
