Many folks that have visited our place refer to it as 'country living in the city'.
We are so blessed to live in this little piece of serenity just inside the city limits of Duluth.
Our home was once an abandoned house that sat for years until a friend mentioned to us that it might be going up for sale. We loved the location and rolled up our sleeves. Twenty years later we still marvel at the beauty around us and can hardly believe that we LIVE here!
Just down the road is a trout stream and beyond that was a popular farm that attracted many folks to this neighborhood for hay rides and sleigh rides. The farm has since retired its horses and closed its doors to make room for new homes, but memories live on in the beauty of the open fields. I often imagine the sound of horses and sleigh bells and people singing carols and then warming up around a toasty fire sipping hot cocoa. Some of those memories live on right here at Balsam Ridge (minus the horses). Over the years many groups of folks have enjoyed a sense of community in these back woods no matter the season. Campfires, kids catching frogs, neighborhood campouts, snow picnics, hair-raising toboggan runs, family campouts, spiritual silent retreats, a take-your-breath-away giant swing, and some tales too daring to mention are all part of the fun.
This is why we do what we do. We've been given much, and love to give back. It just wouldn't seem right to keep all this good to ourselves.

We have a lovely piece of property to come enjoy a getaway at. We enjoy all of the peace and quiet around here. The night sky is unbeatable in my eyes. We have a small hobby farm with lots of very tame animals. We have 42 acres to roams with lots of trails within the woods that are filled with aged oak trees and many young maple trees. Our property is filled with lots of wild flowers and wildlife.
We are locate 3 miles from the root river if you enjoy fishing or going for a float down the river. There are two caves in our area that are a must see while you are visiting. I you like to hike there is a state park 14 minutes from us that have many miles of hiking trails and horse trails.
If you are more the small town strolling type of person we have lots of small towns around us that are filled with shops and lots of great food! There is a large system of bike trails in our area that make a very fun way to check out some of the small towns.
If you have a family with kids we have a lot of fun activities you can do with your kids, like spending time with the goats and chickens, playing on our playground, or taking a nice walk through the woods looking for fossils!

The modern yet cozy cabin has electricity and features a front patio, an external outhouse and outdoor rainwater bucket shower, a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area, a living area, and a sleeping loft with a reading nook. No matter the season, this cabin is a wonderful, cozy, and clean, place to relax and unwind.
Feel free to roam around the 10-acre property and explore the 80 acres of state land to the north. Deer, foxes, coyotes, turkeys, owls, eagles and more are likely to be seen or heard. Explore, Banning, Moose Lake, and Father Hennepin State Parks which are all within 30 minutes, and return to the cabin to read, play games, listen to records, have a fire, and relax.
The kitchen provides you with everything you need to prepare your meals including a refrigerator, small freezer, stove, oven, cookware, cutting boards, sink, seasonings, oil, and coffee.
Water for washing is available from an electric pump faucet in the kitchen, and a brand-new outhouse is located steps from the cabin.
The cabin is efficiently heated and cooled with a user-friendly heat pump and gets the cabin to your desired temperature very quickly.

This property:
Cozy lakeside cottage that sleeps two, with level lawn space nearby that will fit two additional tents in your group. Dedicated private space is in lower level backyard with access to dock* (*May -September), lake and wildlife wetlands with boardwalk. You'll see the setting sun from the end of the dock and have access to a paver patio firepit. Your private bath and a shared, comfortable TV room is inside house. Your guest room is a private space. Mystic Lake Casino and Amphitheater, Canterbury Downs, Renaissance Fest, Valley Fair, many other area lakes besides the 600 acre all sports lake that the property is located on are in the immediate area. For location purposes, we are located 3.7 miles of the Prior Lake, MN McDonald's.
The price per night includes up to two campers inside or outside of the room, but up to two additional campers and tents can be added to the reservation for $20 per person/ per night.
A limit of two persons inside of the cottage and four persons total are allowed per reservation.
All persons must be declared ahead of reserving the space and ID’d for insurance purposes. Please note that all persons on the reservation must submit a copy of their valid picture government ID to the host (via platform) prior to arrival (but after booking).
The host will discuss the procedure with you as HC supports pictures only after booking.

About this space
The "Kick Back Tiny Shack" has a queen size bed, small futon bed (for a child) along with two single camp cots. This tiny house can sleep up to four people (2-3 most comfortably) depending on your needs. There is a mini fridge with mini freezer along with a mini gas range/oven, microwave, coffee pot and toaster. There is a TV and Wi-Fi. The cabin has a freestanding gas fireplace to keep you cozy and warm and air conditioning for the hot summer months. Come prepared to relax. This is a rustic cabin with all amenities so no need to pack up dishes, bedding, towels, etc. (bring sleeping bag and pillow for anything other than the queen size bed.) The kitchen is fully stocked with your basic cooking and dining essentials. If you don't want to do dishes you are welcome to bring your own paper plates, etc. Coffee, Salt, pepper, cooking spray, dish soap and hand soap, toilet paper and one roll of paper towels provided. There is not a well or city water, but you will be supplied with an electric pump faucet with 10 gallons of water for the kitchen sink for doing dishes, etc. There is also a pump faucet for the outhouse sink. You can heat water on the stove with the pot supplied. In addition, 1 to 2 gallons of drinking water will be supplied depending on the length of your stay. There is a heated outhouse next to the cabin which has a shower stall in which you can shower with 120 gallons of water and on demand water heater. Towels are provided and if you need more water, you can contact us, and we can refill at our home which is located next door. Please allow notice in case we are not home at the time. The contact information will be provided with your booking confirmation. You have your own private yard on our 6 acres with a BBQ pit in the summer months, firepit and grill off of the back deck year-round. If you chose to bring a four-wheeler, canoe, boat or snowmobile there is plenty of parking space depending on the quantity. Snowmobiles and side by sides are available for rent 3 miles up the road from the cabin. Come and unwind or explore the many wonders that the Northwoods has to offer! The interior of the cabin is newly refinished. The exterior will be improved as time goes by. No unauthorized guests or pets as a fee may be added and Airbnb does not cover this.

Great location for a family camping trip. The creek and the woods were great for little kids to explore. The cabin and porch provided good coverage in the rain. The wagon for hauling stuff to the cabin was a lifesaver! The only downside was we heard a lot of road noise one evening. (motorcycle ride)

Amanda's land was beautifully taken care of! Both the lawn and fire pit worked exceedingly well and was complete with a picnic bench and the outhouse worked as an outhouse should! The cabin came with 2 bunk beds and one even had a full size mattress with a twin trundle underneath. No power, but plenty of shade and counter space complete with a table and 4 chairs in the center. Animals are welcome too!

Staying at the Roost was awesome! Linda and Chris welcomed us as we arrived, gave a tour of the property, and gave great ideas on throngs or places to experience. The Roost is definitely small, so be prepared for that. That being said, we had a fantastic time at the Roost. It’s a quick drive to Duluth and a great place to recover in a quiet area after a long day out! Thanks for a great weekend!

Had the absolute Best Time here!! Linda and her Husband were the absolute sweetest and most welcoming hosts. Me and my other Teen friend came here to Glamp and it was a very nice and Safe area. The stove was very easy to figure out and use after a fire was started. Very easy and convenient. It felt secluded in the best way!! The site is very close to town and Lake Superior!! The Bathroom we were told to use was VERY clean! There is also a Community Space by the pond with plenty of Activities! There are a Variety of hiking trails and they were so Beautiful and easy to stay on the trail and find your way back thanks to the tree markers and Lindas Handy map!! Overall such an amazing experience and we will 100% be back next summer!! thank you Linda!! ❤️❤️❤️

Beautiful land and the overlook of the meadows from the cabin's front side was quite something. Great little cabin, and we had fun listening to some of the vinyl records on the turntable! Weather was too hot for us to want to make a campfire but the fire pit area set aside for doing so was picture perfect.

The whole family loved staying in the Stuga. Cozy, private, relaxing. We watched hummingbirds in the large window. Our son loved swimming and fishing in the nearby pond, and we all played some competitive (and fun) games of carpet ball. Of course, we also went on the amazing swings. I would highly recommend this place, it’s pretty special.

I loved getting to stay at this beautiful space. As other reviews reflect, it is even more delightful, peaceful and intentional than you'd think. The hosts were communicative and kind. The area was wonderful for hiking and swimming. Thank you so much!

Definitely One of the Best Locations. Just be Prepared to Cross a Stream with A Decent Current, and Hauling All Gear/Supplies up a A Steep Hill to get to the Cabin.
Not an issue for Husband, Myself and Our FurBaby, as It was Pleasant to Walk through the Cold Stream to Cool Off! Especially with the Early Unexpected Hot Weather…A Huge Bonus:)
