Welcome to Whippletree! This is our sixth-generation family farm, and while it's more of a hobby farm now, it has been in continuous agricultural production since 1869! Besides tillable farm land, we are stewards of native prairie, small wooded areas, a remnant of an oak savanna and wetlands, with trails throughout. We consider this our sanctuary and enjoying sharing it with others looking for a place of retreat to connect with the natural world. Stop by for a visit!

Simple, rustic walk-in tent camping on a 150 year old active farm nestled in a suburban setting. This walk-in site (1/10 of a mile) is a tree-covered tent site next to an open field. This is fairly private and out of the way, but a bit of a walk to the water spigot, outhouse and milkhouse lounge (about 800 feet away). The site has a fire ring and cooking grate and a picnic table.  Hiking trails are on the property throughout the woods & meadow for you to use and enjoy. These are a  mile and a half of nicely-manicured, easy to moderate trails. There is a deck on the barn for camper relaxation. There can be traffic noise as we are close to a highway. Also plan on hearing chicken noises (we have complimentary ear plugs if you'd rather not hear the rooster a the crack of dawn).  Firewood bundles are available for purchase, and we don't mind if you scrounge for downed, dead firewood around the farm.  Wildlife is abundant. Depending on time of year, you may see deer, bear, fox, sandhill cranes, turkeys, raccoons, muskrats, barn swallows, great horned owls, kestrel, ducks, salamanders, snakes, fire flies and more. Depending on time of year you may also see ticks, mosquitoes and horse flies. The scenic Gateway Trail for biking, walking and horseback riding is just down the road. There is access to several lakes, including legendary White Bear Lake within 5 miles if you have a boat, kayak or other watercraft. The historic rivertown of Stillwater is 6 miles away, and St. Paul/Minneapolis is 20/25 miles away.

Historic barn space, rustic cabin, firepit and tent site may all be customized to your event, and include day use of our nature trails on our preserved wetland and woods. Cost is based on your specific needs, and includes a set up day and event day built into the rate.

Simple, rustic RV/car camping spot on a 150 year old active farm nestled in a suburban setting. Also works as a spot to pitch a tent. This site is by the main buildings and close to the action (and close to the outhouse, water, milkhouse lounge & barn deck). While you do have your own space, it is not secluded. Plan on seeing and hearing people, much like a traditional campground or RV park. Electrical hook up is available for a fee. It is in same spot as the camper cabin, and only one is booked for the same time period (if the camper cabin is booked, the RV spot is not available). Enjoy our simple, rustic farm stay on a 150+ year old active family-farm nestled in a suburban setting.   This is an uninsulated three season camping cabin. During the cold months, the stove will do a fair job with outdoor temps to about 30 degrees. Mid-summer, we do have fans, but it will be quite warm in there. You are welcome to book anytime, just know this is camping with a cabin, not fancy glamping! Best time to book this cabin is spring and fall. The camper cabin that has a sleeping room, kitchenette and living area on the first floor, and a sleeping area in the second floor loft. The cabin sleeps four (4), has a picnic table and firepit with grill grate.  We provide mattresses and clean sheets, and you bring your own sleeping bag and/or blankets and pillows. We also provide grilling utensils, cast iron pan, four sets of tableware, cutting board, mixing bowl, can opener, dish towels, biodegradable soap, electric teapot and mini fridge.  There's a wood stove for making it usable into late fall. When it's hot, there are portable fans for use. This spot is close to the action (and close to the outhouse, sink, milkhouse lounge and  barn deck). Cool and unique place for a getaway

Such a unique place to get away for a day or 2. Love the farm and the animals. We had the opportunity to meet the property owners, they were super nice too. We had a unique request for this retreat and we were accommodated. Would definitely return and recommend.

We had a great time at this site! They have a nice fire ring and picnic table set up. We also enjoyed our mornings beginning with the goats and the cat came to say hello as well. Very enjoyable and wished we had more time.

Whippletree Farm was exactly as described. We stayed one night after a long couple of days of driving. It was peaceful, quiet, and beautiful. The farm is particularly well taken care of and obviously loved. We enjoyed the goats and chickens, We will definitely stay again when we are in the Minneapolis area.

The space set up here is beautiful and secluded, Peter was very kind and helpful with any questions. There were lots of deer which was very nice to see. One of my favorite places I’ve set my tent up! Everything was very peaceful

This site although close to the highway and its noise is very accessible with a feeling of solitude. We did see a Lot of deer. As well as numerous turkeys. There is a good amount of wood to gather as well as drinking water available. I pitched two tents and had room to spare. Overall site is great for a quick getaway from the city.

Had a great time setting up tent and spending the day under the trees, seeing and hearing wild life. I seen a doe and two babies, an eagle and many dragonflies and butterflies. It was a beautiful day and evening.

Beautiful landscape with plenty of privacy while still being a comfortably short walk to the outhouse, which has to be the nicest outhouse I have ever experienced! Wildlife was abundant, would definitely recommend and stay here again.

We loved our time at the farm. It was secluded, quiet, and beautiful, the cabin was just what we needed as a home base for the week, and the hanging swings were a fun touch. Electric fans helped with summer temps and it was nice to have fresh linens rather than have to pack them Bring your big repellent for ticks as you would with other natural areas. The goats and chickens were a delight. Thanks to Peter and family for hosting.

We had a wonderful time on the farm! The cabin was perfect for what we needed. Fans helped to circulate air in summer weather, the beds were comfortable with clean sheets, and the little prep surface and mini fridge made things easy. Very family friendly. We'd recommend repellent and keeping an eye out for ticks as you would in other natural areas. The goats and chickens were a delight for kids and the composting toilet set-up worked well. Thanks to Peter and the family for welcoming us!

This was the perfect place to stay for the night. Such a cute little cabin and had everything I needed. Went for a walk in the nature trails after dinner and was so serene and quiet. Wild definitely stay here again.

Beautiful farm near the Twin Cities with a great auto site. We needed to try our RTT before a trip out west and decided this was a perfect spot to give it a try. Only about a mile from the Gateway trail and a speedy 25 mile RT bike ride to downtown Stillwater for breakfast on a patio. Really a great option if you are looking to avoid crowds and noise at a public campground.

We chose this spot because it was close to the activities we wanted to do in the city but a remote place to set up camp. Peter had clear directions & the spot was perfect for a big tent & a hammock. We saw deer every night, turkeys & heard an owl. The wagon provided was perfect for hauling our gear to the spot. Would recommend!

This is our second trip to Whippletree and we love it. Easy access, nice add ons like a composting toilet and firewood, great site, and goats! This time we saw 10+ deer and some turkeys…we’ll be back again for sure.

It was close to home. It was just what my daughter and I needed for her to get her camping skills under her feet. It felt like we were out in the middle of no where, yet being just minutes from town. Land was well maintained, everything was where it said it would be. It was a very positive experience.

We loved visiting! We walked a couple of the trails around the property and did see a couple deer, a couple garter snakes, and other misc. bugs and birds. The donuts were fabulous and a wonderful addition! While our time there was short, it was a relaxing getaway from Chicago.

Whippletree Farm is the perfect spot for us. Our daughter is at UMN and this spot allowed us to pull our camper and be within 20 minutes of Minneapolis. The location is perfect and serene. Peter is a great host and we plan to book again. It is a lovely location surrounded by farmland but yet nestled into an urban area.

We had a great time at Whippletree Farm! Peter was an excellent host - very accommodating and welcoming to us during our stay. You can’t beat having the combined experience of the great outdoors and city life in one location! Also highly recommend adding the freshly made Camp Donuts onto your stay 😋

This was a great experience. It was secluded yet easy to get to. Unfortunately we had to cancel one night because of a thunderstorm, but they were very accommodating. I highly recommend the donuts!
