When we were kids we spent time on this property riding bike, horses, and exploring. We have turned this 13 acre property into 22 site campground that we are excited to share with you. Nestled in a bed of trees just 2 miles from I-90 and 1/4 mile South of the Luverne City Park. This campground has 12 sites with rural water and 20,30&50 amp electric at every site. This property has 4 camp spots. Sites 1 and 4 have a boat landing. All sites have shades trees that can hold hammocks. All sites are right next to the lake. Site 3 has a dock that all can use. There is excellent swimming with a sandy bottom at the south end of the lake. The lake is stocked with perch in 2024 but has others as well. It is also close to many lakes that are good for fishing. I have a 14' fishing boat with trolling motor, a paddle boat, 2 kayaks, and canoe for campers to use for free. Firewood is available for $5/day. There is some hiking on the property and much near by. Biking is also good with small lakes nearby to visit. The camping here is very peaceful with wonderful views and the wildlife is awesome! 120 volt power is at all sites and 220 can reach sites 2 and 3. There is warm showers and flushing toilets. Also all sites are drive through on hard ground grass. Grates are provided for cooking over the fire. There is Wi-Fi internet that reaches sites 1-3

Learn more about this land: Start your morning with a perfect view of the sunrise (site 2), or a more shaded, sleep-in a bit (site 1) along with your favorite morning beverage. Site 3 is a large grassy area with tree cover for tents or small vehicles, and a sunrise/sunset view. Feel free to explore the property and you will find a wooded grove and dirt walking path, native plants, wild life--deer, squirrels, pheasants, eagles, hawks, fox, coyote, raccoon, etc. We have 2 fire pits on the property, one at site 1, the other at site 2. You are welcome to bring a portable fire ring or BBQ. We have a vegetable garden you we welcome to admire or get veggies from if they are ripe. We also have a trampoline with surrounding net if there is anyone interested in jumping on that. There is a basketball hoop located by site 1. The outdoor bathroom and guest patio area is also located near site 1. We have a few animals that roam the land, a black lab named Emma, she is 13 years old and friendly as can be but if she is outside she will greet you with barks and running with excitement to see who you are. She does not jump on people. Sometimes she will get territorial with other dogs but is fine after an introduction. So if you are traveling with dogs, a heads up is appreciated! We also have farm cats and egg laying chickens. Take a walk on our country road or into town, approximately a mile and a half to restaurants, visitors center at the Jolly Green Giant Statue, hardware stores, Shell gas station & food mart or access to miles of paved trails around the town. Explore and have fun locating the dozens of "Little Sprouts" (baby Green Giants) around town. There is a very nice City swimming pool with diving board, slide, lap pool, zero depth pool all the water features, lounge chairs, umbrella's, concession stand, showers... located on the South end of Main Street in Blue Earth. Very easy entrance and exit to Blue Earth, site is located at the intersection of Interstate 90 & HWY 169.

Once the site of the historic V.J. Fetzner Brewery from the late 19th Century. The land is now used as a hobby farm, honey bee sanctuary and nursery to a unique tree species normally not found in Southeastern Minnesota. Remnants of the brewery are still visible. Foundation walls outline the massive structure of the brewery. Nestled in the center of the foundation is the entrance to the sixty-seven foot deep cave that once held barrels of beer and can be accessed by canoe only. Hops have been located on the property and are believed to be ancestors of those raised to make the beer once stored in the cave. The pond that provides access to the cave was dug out in the early 1990's to create a fish out for the Spring Falls Trout Farm that used to exist across the highway. Some of the original brood stock still exist and continue to naturally stock the pond. It is not uncommon to see fish that are five to ten pounds in size. We do not allow fishing from our pond. The residents house is built to scale to the original brew master's house. While the house is only twenty-four years old it looks as though you have taken a step back in time. The name Shady Rest was given to the house by the Brew Master's wife. We thought it was appropriate to keep the name alive. Shady Rest Acres is comprised of twenty-three acres of beautiful woodlands and pasture that are protected forever in the Minnesota Land Trust. The pasture is home to Scottish Highlander cows, two miniature donkeys, five sheep, four goats, honey bees and a flock of chickens. Scottish Highlanders were selected for both their grazing and browsing abilities. They are very docile and make excellent pasture mates to the smaller species sharing the pasture. The cows are excellent forest managers. They clear out invasive species such as Honey Suckle, Buckthorn, and Barberry which can often be difficult to manage. A guided tour with the host can be taken to meet the pasture animals. The forest is comprised of many tree species. Some are unique in that they normally do not grow in this region of Minnesota. The yellow birch is a species normally found in Northern Minnesota. It's bark is golden in color and glistens when the sun hits it just right. We have a cluster of several yellow birch including one that is so big that the bark no longer looks golden but instead is grey and very rough. Years ago the largest of these trees made excellent wood for turning bowls. Blue Beech (musclewood) can also be found on the property. As the name indicates the bark is shaped like muscles. Songbirds and some other species will use different parts of the tree as a food source. Towering white pines also speckle the landscape. Mother pine requires at least two humans arm lengths to encircle the whole tree. She is a favorite resting spot for the barred owl. There is oak, elm, maple, ceders, poplars and numerous other species. Honey bees are an integral part of the landscape. We partnered with a friend and started raising honey bees two years ago in order to do our part to keep pollinators thriving. Their hives are located in the pasture where it has the perfect amount of early morning sun to get them moving and afternoon shade to balance out the summer heat. It is not uncommon to see them pollinating garden plants, trees and wild flowers around the property. One of their favorite feeding spots is the acre and a half prairie which offers a range of plants including big blue stem, wild indigo and baby blue stem, to name a few. Not only are honey bees essential to the food chain but they also provide a very enriching experience when they are observed moving about their hives. There is nothing more relaxing and fascinating than watching these amazing creatures.

Note: Site does not have an assigned address but the driveway is next to our cabin on the North side of the Snake River in Pine City MN, NOT Rock Creek MN. The site is a vacant lot and has the better river view and experience as its a small peninsula that juts out to the river with rapids. There is a swimming area right next to the campsite or feel free to jump into the rapids if you want a rush. There is fishing right there as well, mostly large and small mouth bass. There is parking off the road and a short walk to the campsite, just follow the sounds of the river. Small wagons are provided to help with getting gear down to the river tent site. There is a composting toilet, it uses a "separator" where #1 goes back to the earth (as it is sterile and liquid) and #2 goes into a bucket and is covered with wood chips. There is also a standing urinal for men if desired. If you would prefer to use a pit toilet there is one on the property with directions marked with a sign. It is a farther walk however, about 100 yards from the tent site and on the cabin property near the driveway. If you want something even more convenient, feel free to bring your own. Firewood is available for sale onsite or feel free to clean up dead wood lying along the trail at no cost. The tent site is right next to rapids on the Snake river. If you struggle sleeping to the sound of rushing water, this may not be for you!

We have both lakeshore (in front) and a hobby farm with cows, chickens and goats in our back lawn and woods. The Hamlet Lake Bunkhouse is located to the west of our home in its own secluded parcel next to the lake. The Camp on Hamlet Hill (closed for 2026) is to the north of our home, on a remote flat hill at the top of our property, on a hill over Cedar brook. with 300-acre, (private) Hamlet Lake in front, and the wide portion of the 20-mile Cedar brook in the back. We are a large "homesteading" family, with chickens, ducks, and a garden. The campsite is a private 1/2 acre clearing, surrounded by woods with a firepit, grill, cooking utensils, and an outhouse. (Tents are available for a small additional cost). There is an outdoor water pump below the hill, near which guests can view our fenced-in animals. Guests can also access the waterfront and beach in front, with the use of the swim raft, lily pad, fishing dock, canoe, kayak, and paddle boards included. At nearly 100 feet deep, Hamlet lake also boasts excellent fishing. Our home is located 6 miles from Crosby, with the world-class Cuyuna Lakes 50-mile mountain bike trail system. Crosby is a growing tourist town with many new and unique restaurants, outdoor adventures, and shopping opportunities. The paved bike trail begins 3.5 north of us. Milacs lake is 10 miles to the south.

2 nights at Whippletree Farm & Nature Trail

Had a great stay at Whippletree Farm! My husband and I booked this site to take his younger siblings on their first ever “camping” trip. Peter’s cabin was the perfect intro to camping experience! My sister in law loved the goats and chickens and spent plenty of time with the cats that were roaming around. Having perks like the compost toilet, beds w/sheets, and fans was especially nice because it meant I didn’t have to pack as much stuff. We wanted to do a day of Mall of America and a day of hiking at Willow River State Park, so this was the perfect location. 10/10 would recommend!

Amazing mix of so-close to things while feeling so far away. Jolene made sure I was welcomed and fined in on a few details - she went out of her way. Hundreds (thousands?) of birds sunging put me to sleep and woke me up. Traveled on my motorbike, started the morning on 45mph twisties at the end of the driveway. Will return next time in area.

We had such a great time camping here on site 2. Jim was great and very helpful with questions. He helped set up power for us and show us great fishing spots on the lake. Would definitely recommend this place if you want a more clear field with less trees and bugs to camp on.

Weekend Trip to Tumbleweed Base Camp

Came out here with the family for a weekend and had an amazing time. The property has tons of open space for kids to run around and David was incredible — super welcoming and always finding new activities to keep the kids entertained. That hospitality made the whole trip. The barn is a really cool hangout spot with a lot of character, and the fire pit was the highlight of the evenings. We ended up meeting other campers there and had a great night swapping stories — the kind of thing you just can't get at a normal campground. Location is perfect too. Detroit Mountain is right next door for mountain biking (and apparently troll hunting, which was a hit with the kids), and downtown Detroit Lakes is just a short drive away when you need it. Would definitely come back.

I loved car camping on Chelsey’s land! She gave us some fire starters cause it was really windy and we did not come prepared enough. My bad. I adored her house and the land was on. We stayed on site #2 and had such a pretty view of the sunrise and crops planted on the farm Nextdoor. No one else was there except one girl one night, so she was super cool about letting us pick any spot that worked for us really. She had a dog that was super friendly and some cats that roam around. One became our friend. It was just outside of town so we ran to get wine one night. She was around here and there so not a good choice for complete solitude, but we loved it!

Really great site, we had beautiful weather and didn't really spend much time in the cabin. There was plenty of firewood available to us which was really great. When we were going to bed we couldn't help but think we missed out cause the cabin was really great. Great time, great site and great cabin.
