Mellen, WI · 4 sites · Tents, RVs
On the upper Bad River, I have a special location that I'd like to share for others to enjoy. I was fortunate to acquire this land 20 years ago and now that I have retired from the United States Air Force, I can dedicate time to create peaceful campsites along the river. This land was originally railroad property as the railroad companies bought much land in the late 1800's to have options to place their railroads. There is still a railroad track nearby but it has been unused since 2015 and it makes a nice hiking path along the river for many miles to the north into the national forest. There are 3 waterfalls nearby and I will have many signs leading to the waterfalls. There are 4 total campsites on the property, 1 site you can drive to (Eagle Pines), and 3 tent sites that require 1/8 mile hike to 2 sites, and a 1/4 mile hike to the other hike-in site. There is no leash required for good pups. If your pup is aggressive with other dogs or people please leash them when on the hiking trails. If your pups would stay in your campsite no leash is required. Other campers may be hiking past your campsite on the trails that is still over 100 feet away from others campsites. You may run into others on the trails where others dogs may not be leashed. If your dog is aggressive to other dogs even if yours is on leash if you can’t control them please muzzle them. This property is for sale if you may be interested. Please ask and I’ll send you the details.

Washburn, WI · 1 site · Tent, RV
Located just down from Bayview Beach, our property sits nestled between Lake Superior and the Onion River, which runs through the property just behind the cabin. You will have a private beach on Lake Superior all to yourself. While neighbors may be around from time to time, especially on weekends, you will not have to share anything but the sound of waves hitting the shore and birds chirping as the sun sets in the west. You can set up a tent by the cabin or on the beach side in the grass or sand areas—or even on the beach itself if you'd like to catch a sunrise. There is also room for an RV, teardrop trailer, or camper van, if that's what you'd like to bring. A fire ring and firewood are provided, along with some chairs. Kayaks are available upon request, but you are responsible for safe operation and for understanding when weather conditions are not suitable for their use. At this time, the cabin is not included or open for use, nor is there power available for outside hookups. There is no running water (besides the river and Lake Superior), and no toilets on site. However, you will pass public toilets on your way in—they are roughly 90 seconds away by car. Otherwise, you are responsible for bringing a camp toilet. Pets are welcome but must be leashed when others are around and well-behaved. Please dispose of waste properly and respect the natural surroundings. We've had this property since my siblings and I were kids, so please be respectful of the property and neighbors and treat others as you would like to be treated in return. You should not be bothered by anyone. Please practice pack-in/pack-out and clean up after yourselves. Beyond that, nearby attractions include the city of Bayfield and the Apostle Islands, a short 15-minute drive away. Bayfield, Wisconsin, is a breathtaking destination that serves as the gateway to the Apostle Islands. Whether you are seeking adventure on the water, a peaceful retreat in nature, or a taste of local charm, this lakeside gem has something for everyone. Here is an overview of the area and some top attractions to add to your itinerary: Must-Visit Attractions & Activities: • Apostle Islands National Lakeshore: You cannot miss this stunning archipelago. Explore the 21 islands and mainland sea caves by kayak, water taxi, or scenic cruise. It is arguably the most iconic experience in the region. • Madeline Island: Just a short scenic ferry ride from Bayfield, this is the largest of the Apostle Islands. Visit Big Bay State Park for hiking trails and sandy beaches, or explore the shops and eateries in the village of La Pointe. • Orchards & Berry Farms: Bayfield is often called the "Berry Capital of Wisconsin." Depending on the season, you can spend an afternoon picking strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, or apples at one of the many family-owned farms overlooking Lake Superior. • Hiking & Waterfalls: The region is a hiker’s paradise. Check out the Meyers Beach Sea Caves Trail for cliffside views, or explore hidden gems like Lost Creek Falls near Cornucopia. • Big Top Chautauqua: For a unique cultural experience, catch a concert or performance under the "Big Blue Tent." It’s a venue that blends live music with the natural beauty of the Northwoods. • Mt. Ashwabay Ski & Recreation Area: In winter, enjoy downhill skiing, snowboarding, and fat biking on groomed trails. In warmer months, it offers scenic hiking and views. • Local Flavors & Artisans: After a day of exploring, head into downtown Bayfield for fresh-caught whitefish, locally crafted cider or spirits, and charming independent bookstores and art galleries. Thank you, and we look forward to hosting you!

Experience upscale camping–Glamping in the Forested Hills of Lake Superior. Sailor Springs is a small three-site campground located just two miles outside of the picturesque tourist town of Bayfield, WI. 2023 will be our first year of operation and we’re excited to host campers on the property and provide a unique camping experience. The campground is spread out over 5 acres of forest that you’ll hike into from Bresette Hill Road. After parking at the trailhead, you’ll gather your bags and hike into your glamping site. The trail winds through the woods, leading you first to a valley where the seasonal Clark Creek runs through in the spring. The first two campsites are on the other side of this valley. The trail can be steep in spots and requires a moderate level of fitness and mobility to reach the secluded campsites. The third site is a bit farther into the forest, the little A-frame cabin, Anchor sits on the edge of the spring-fed Brickyard Creek that flows year-round. We have many plans for the property and depending on when you stay, the campground will be in various stages of development. The campsites, trailhead / parking area, and trails are scheduled to be completed in early spring. We hope to add amenities such as a camp sauna and screened-in gazebo later in the 2024 summer / fall. Thank you for considering joining us on this journey to build a peaceful place to play and stay in the woods. “In every walk in nature one receives far more than he seeks.” John Muir

My husband Rob and I own a 40 acre property approximately 10 miles from Bayfield, Wi. We have a micro organic farm with hundreds of wild apple trees and believe in leaving the land better than we found it. Rob loves permaculture, managing soils, pruning apple trees and feeding his community nutrient dense food. I work as a hospice nurse and help out on the farm when I am able and we have 2 boys, Arlo and Owen. We keep busy! We offer 3 rustic rentals onsite, but each is very private and secluded. Well, other than two fire pits and a propane grill (BYO propane if you want to use that) Expect a lumpy lawn with space for up to 8 tents located right on top of a 100 foot cliff leading straight down to lake superior. If needed, showers, bathrooms, etc. are located 1.2 miles away at Big Bay Town Park. Welcome to Happy Creek Hollow, your cozy private hideaway in the Northwoods! We’re excited to share our 30-acre slice of paradise—perfect for creating unforgettable memories with family and friends. A small bunk cabin now sits on the property, but the site remains fully open for tent camping or travel trailers. Tucked away yet easy to access, this one-of-a-kind retreat offers total seclusion with no neighbors in sight. You’ll have the entire 30 acres to yourself, surrounded by wild, untouched woods. There’s plenty of room to spread out with tents or park your camper/travel trailer. Spend your days relaxing around the campfire, exploring the beautiful Penokee Mountain area, and soaking in the peace of the Northwoods. Adventure on the property: A private trail leads about a half-mile (roughly 30-minute round-trip hike) to Happy Creek Flowage, a peaceful 10-acre lake. The trail is hilly and rugged—true Northwoods terrain—but well worth it. A paddle boat is waiting for calm floats on the water. ATVs and side-by-sides can also use the trail for quicker access. We’re working on installing a dock, but until then, plan to wear high boots or get your feet wet reaching the boat. The lake has no public access, so it’s all yours! Local DNR folks say there may be trout in the lake—we’re looking forward to confirming that this summer. Nearby attractions: Little Town Coffee Truck - 4 mi: ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC COFFEE, located at the Mellen Police Department Parking Lot. Copper Falls State Park - 6.5 mi: stunning waterfalls. Drop Tine Restaurant in Cayuga - 3.5 mi: serves up an excellent fish fry and burgers. Please note: Cell service is spotty (especially for AT&T), so plan accordingly. The bunk cabin will be unoccupied during your stay, giving you full privacy on the property. If you’d like to rent the bunk cabin in addition to the campsite, just reach out—I’d be happy to arrange it. Please note that the cabin has no electricity or running water and features an unfinished interior.

Hi there! We have 5 yurts spread across our 40 acres with each yurt having lots of individual space and privacy. We hand built our yurts from scratch using wood from our land and local lumber, as well as sewing all the vinyl ourselves. The yurts are almost completely locally sourced, everything was handmade by us, and sustainably sourced. We are really excited to share the land we love with folks from near and far. Your yurt is equipped with a full sized futon, two burner stove kitchen with all cooking appliances and utensils, 2 gallons of fresh drinking water (as well as oil, salt, pep, coffee, and tea all provided), a small dining table with chairs, and an outdoor fire pit. A short 7 min drive from our property is beautiful Little Sand Bay beach. This free, public use National Park beach is gorgeous with views of Sand and York Islands, great swimming spots, $2.00 hot showers, and kayak launch. Important things to note about your yurt site! The access to our property is via a long dirt road, this road is accessible for all vehicles but it is about a 2min drive through the woods to get to the yurt sites. Once you arrive on the property your yurt is a 2-4min (depending on which yurt you choose) hike up a hill from the parking area. I recommend backpacking in your items. Wheely coolers and bags will not enjoy the terrain. The Portapotty is located at the parking area as well. That being said, a little bit of walking will be involved in your stay :) If you love walking you are in luck and can explore the trails on the property!
