Best in Wisconsin: 2nd place
Named one of the best Hipcamps to visit in 2024.
Update: This property was just awarded 2nd place for 2024 as the 2nd best Hipcamp in Wisconsin out of 252 Hipcamp's based on reviews and ratings! Thank you to all who have enjoyed this amazing property and provided a review or rating!!! On the upper Bad River, I have a special location that I'd like to share for others to enjoy. I was fortunate to acquire this land 20 years ago and now that I have retired from the United States Air Force, I can dedicate time to create peaceful campsites along the river. This land was originally railroad property as the railroad companies bought much land in the late 1800's to have options to place their railroads. There is still a railroad track nearby but it has been abandoned since 2015 and it makes a nice hiking path along the river for many miles to the north. There are 3 waterfalls nearby and I will have many signs leading to the waterfalls. There are 4 total campsites on the property, 1 site you can drive to (Eagle Pines), and 3 tent sites that require 1/8 mile hike to 2 sites, and a 1/4 mile hike to the other hike-in site.

Cayuga Falls Hike-In River Campsite
Loved this campsite. So secluded and close to the river. Fall asleep to the sound of rushing water. Fun and easy hike to the camp site and well set up with picnic table, fire ring and chairs.

Eagle Pines On The Bad River
My partner and I stayed at Eagle Pines campsite in early July and it was perfect! Such a lovely spot on the river and so private. We were able to bring both of our dogs, which we really appreciated, and they happily played around the campsite and in the river. It was so nice to have firewood available right there on site! The mosquitoes were pretty oppressive, which makes sense for the time of year so I would definitely recommend a screen tent which we luckily brought. We cooked a delicious dinner over the fire on the handy little fire pit grill and it was awesome! I would love to come back sometime! Thank you, Dean for making this sweet little oasis available for visitors!

Eagle Pines On The Bad River
Sittin’ on the dock of the River.
What a beautiful place to spend some great R&R. Our family of 4 had a great time staying here. We slept in our tent, which was for us due to the sandy soft ground cover. There are great directions to get in along with how to navigate your camper. Also, very convenient firewood at this site you can buy. This would be a great place for a few families to stay together. We got in at dinner the bar pretty close to the site (walkable) would have loved to test out the canoe that was provided for use. It rained one of the days so we went to Bayfield (1hr) and Ashland (30mins) for the day, which are some of our faves. We’ll definitely be back!
