Escape to Superior Beach Camp and immerse yourself in the beauty and privacy of a cleared camping area situated above 500' feet of sand and pebble beach on the world’s greatest lake. Agate campsite is very generously sized and is all yours. Surrounded by a mix of poplar and birch with a few white pine sprinkled in, the main camp area is set back from the lake atop a 70' bluff with peekaboo views of Lake Superior. A short walk down a private path from your campsite gives you access to a beautiful Lake Superior beach to swim, skip rocks, search for agates, or just enjoy the panoramic views of the lake and the town of Duluth on the opposite shore. Agate campsite previously featured a "look out point" that has been altered by the natural erosion of the red clay banks that comprise much of Lake Superior's south shore. While you can still access this area, doing so will require more effort and care, and we no longer allow camping on the point. Superior Beach Camp located is 2.5 hours north of the Twin Cities and perfectly positions you to discover all the wonders of the Twin Ports. Explore this amazing area or stay at camp, set up your chair in the sand and take in the many moods of Mother Superior. Watch the ships come and go to the sparkly backdrop of Duluth’s city lights. The crackle of a driftwood fire on the beach provides the perfect soundtrack as you watch for shooting stars and the aurora. Stock up on supplies and explore the charming industrial town of Superior, WI – 15 minutes from your campsite. Spend a day mountain biking the Duluth Traverse and touring the the wonderful local dining and tap room scenes of Duluth and Superior. Canal Park, downtown Duluth, is a 25 minute drive. If you’d like to venture further, you could meander up the North Shore. Or keep it local and check out Bayfield and the Apostle Islands – only 75 minutes East. Stop through the charming lakeside village of Cornucopia on your way. Or perhaps you’d like to experience world class trout fishing on the Brule River a half hour from Superior Beach Camp. Maybe Parks are your thing: Amnicon Falls, one of Wisconsin’s most beautiful State Parks, is reachable in 10 minutes by car. Drive a half hour further to Pattison State Park and take in Wisconsin’s tallest waterfall. On the Minnesota side, the magic of Jay Cooke State Park is 30 minutes west (and puts you on the doorstep of legit white water rafting). Whether you're looking for solace and relaxation in a blissful [great] lakeside setting or simply seeking a convenient place to rest your head while exploring the many adventures a stone’s throw from your campsite, there is something for everyone who camps here. Superior Beach Camp is a clean, quiet, peaceful, primitive setting. The middle area has softer soil and can get squishy when wet. Agate's bluff and path to the beach are a combination of natural rock, dirt and red clay soil. We've cleared a dedicated path but please be careful and mind your footing, especially when wet as it can get a bit slippery. Waterproof boots or shoes / sandals that you don't mind getting muddy and wet are recommended - especially when rain is in the forecast. The beach is open to roam and setup wherever you please within our property lines. Please do not venture past property markers and be respectful of our neighbors.

Pets are welcome at SBC! It's very important that you clean up after your furry friends, please do a thorough job. While there is a ton of room for happy pets to roam, please be safe and be mindful of leash etiquette if your pet is still working on their listening and behavior as there is abundant wildlife and at times other campers in the area.

Bbq. A charcoal grill is available at your campsite. Charcoal is not provided. Please grill safely and be sure the grill and ash is cold to the touch if you leave the area.

If you're looking for a wide-open space and a beach with rocks to pick through for hours on end, dark starry nights, going to bed and waking up to the sounds of Lady Lake Superior's waves rolling (or crashing!) onto the shore, falling asleep to frogs croaking and crickets singing, and a chorus of birds in the early morning and throughout the day plus a short jaunt by foot from your spot to the beach, Agate campsite is just for you. We've never camped anywhere other than Spirit Mt. while in the area and let me tell you, Agate does not disappoint. Plenty of room for kids to run around, room for yard games you bring from home, a beautiful look out spot and a trail down to the beach. The sunrises and sunsets are so beautiful, and it's easy to just sit on the sand and relax. Directions to the site are very easy and it's a short drive to Superior and about a half hour to Pattison State Park where you can see Big Manitou Falls, the 4th tallest waterfall this side of the Rockies and only 2' shorter than Niagara Falls. Amnicon Falls isn't far, and the entire area is teaming with wildlife. Before we left we decided we'll be back again for a few days, we loved it that much. Quite the little gem this place is!

We had an great experience at this Hipcamp site! Having our own private beach was amazing - our dog was in heaven. The rocks and driftwood made treasure hunting fun, and the sunsets were beautiful! The weather was in the lower fifties and sunny which was perfect for us - no bugs (except a few ticks). Thank you for a wonderful camping trip, Matt - we will definitely be returning!

The land was so beautiful- and HUGE! It was so peaceful. We could have spent hours on the private beach looking at the washed up granite and quartz. Cleanest porta-potty I’ve ever used.

This site is amazing! It’s our favorite spot now and we’ve highly recommended it to several friends. It’s beautiful and clean and feels secluded yet safe. We’re grateful to have the chance to be on the lake. My boys saw a porcupine on the trail which was a highlight. The stars are amazing. The beach is perfect and private. 10 out of 10 all around.

Amazing completely private campsite with stunning private beach! I couldn't recommend it more. The locked gate, private clean outhouse, picnic table, and large firepit were great touches. The only things I would note are that there is no shade at all in the camping area, so maybe bring an easy-up if it's hot. Also the outhouse light is very high and bright, interfering slightly with dark night star gazing and tent sleeping. Would be great if it were lower or had an off option. Overall, one of the very best campsites I have ever visited. Thank you! We will be back.

My family and I really enjoyed camping here! It’s a wonderful spot if you have little kids or dogs—there’s plenty of room to spread out and roam. The outhouse was impressively clean and well-kept, which made our stay even more comfortable. We’d definitely come back!

Great open spot for camping. There is bit of a hike down to the beach, and after the rain the red clay was very slick, but still an amazing place. There is a lot of beachfront access and the view is amazing. We spent most of our time at the beach. Dogs couldn’t get enough of it!

This was a beautiful campsite with an amazing beach!! Our trip was very rainy and cold, but we were still able to enjoy a campfire and make the trek down to the beach. The portapotty was pristine and the campsite was easy to find, as well as close to amnicon state park and about 1/2 hour to Pattison state park. Site is completely private.

To quote my son after asking what went well, " literally everything went well "! That's the truth. Beautiful and secluded. The beach was our favorite part. We made many clay projects and forts with driftwood on the beach. The site is also a 5 minute drive to Amnicon State Park where there are many waterfalls and trails to explore.

This was a wonderful private site. The camping area is very well groomed. The Porta potty was spotless. The gate added a nice feeling of security. And nothing can beat the beach. I solo camped with our dog and it was a wonderful experience. Will be back for sure.

Loved the site! Plenty of room for our 2 year old and dog to run around camp and a great shoreline for beachin. Too bad the erosion got the other lookout but its still great to have a cup of coffee and look at the view. Hike down to the water was rewarding for little man -- Matt was very up front that it can get slippery (and it is) so just be aware of that. Site is really private (you may hear other camps next to you but there is no way you'd see them unless at the beach.) Overall, really love the location -- be advised the flies/mosquitoes are out in force this time of year but that is just part of being in nature. Also, highly recommend checking out Amicron Falls State park about 15 mins away (especially if you have kiddos). If you get there early(7-8am -- we got there around 9) you'll have the whole place to yourself.

Agate is a great site with a clean portapotti. Good for stargazing and viewing aurora and meteor showers but with the usual mosquitos that go away later at night but none at the very nice beach. Be careful on the 2 miles of dusty gravel road and take a left at the fork at the end. The numbers on the lock had to line up slightly above the middle. I had a nice time. Thanks.

We loved the campsite! We are used to a little bit more coverage of trees, so knowing that there is none on this campsite we would bring a canopy or two for shade. The Porta potty is amazingly clean and kept! The grounds are also amazingly clean and kept. Clay soil so come prepared for that with your pets and tents. By the way, it was a great place for our pups to play and be with. We felt very safe. The beach was wonderful… Matt has done a great job providing a path to it. And there’s an awesome path to a lookout point which we caught sunsets every night! Loons, birds, and coyotes were the wildlife we saw and heard. We particularly love the proximity to two state parks, Amnicon, and Pattison, both which provided uncomplicated, hiking and shade. Beautiful parks! Definitely an asset for this camping spot. Matt was a perfect host and we will totally come back here again! ….I think in the fall it would be awesome. That will probably be our next time visiting it!

We truly enjoyed our time on Matt’s land. Communication was excellent and access to the property was a breeze. The land had everything you need for a private getaway…privacy, firepit, picnic table, bbq, & your own beach. We had a fire both on the beach and on the property. My girlfriend especially loved that I picked wild raspberries for her to go with her morning oatmeal.

Private beach is absolutely amazing! Very secluded so I was able to let dogs off leash. Still have decent cellphone service. Not much for shade so be prepared for that. Only rough part is the walk back and forth to the beach. Walking down is pretty easy as long as it’s not wet, lots of clay. Walking back up to the site was a bit of a workout especially when carrying things. The trail is also very narrow might be hard for elderly and people like me who are not super fit. Other than the walk to the beach, everything was great! Plenty of space and like I said earlier, fantastic beach! Would definitely book again.

First time with Hipcamp- So pleased we got a place like Superior Beach Camp- it was perfect off the grid experience with our Aliner surrounded by nature. Private beach on Superior, Eagles flying over and calling from the trees. Dogs enjoyed water fetch and hanging on the beach. Matt description of property is spot on. We knew what to expect- hope to be back
