This is a beautiful piece of property located in the heart of the Finger Lakes and Wine Country of NY. It features a stunning spring fed waterfall and nice forest land. Very close to town but also very secluded and private. Great place to unwind and relax from our everyday lives. It is situated however in a gully next to a creek and waterfall so it is susceptible to heavy rains. It is recommended to at least have an AWD vehicle if rainy. I can usually help campers with getting to the site in my side X side if you need to park up at the pasture. Please order enough wood initially as I have found I spend a lot of time delivering extra wood to campers. It seems as if you will typically go through 2 bundles per night on average. Also I supply a contractor size garbage bag to you if you choose garbage removal. It is also a good idea to text me when you have a solid ETA so I can be here to take you to the site. I want to mention that the two sites closest to the waterfall are a slight hike in and can only accommodate up to 4 person tents so if a bigger group or vehicle camping you will be placed at another site. The park sits along the shores of Lake Ontario and offers trails through wooded bluffs for those that like to get their hike on. If you go gaga for furry creatures, visit the marsh at the mouth of the park's namesake creek. You may come across white-tail deer or blue heron. The campground is scattered throughout a grassy field so don’t count on privacy here, but look on the bright side! More visibility equals less worries as your youngsters run wild. For generations, the majestic waterfall has been revered for its spectacular beauty. It’s considered a sacred site central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka.
Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, the waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. It’s one of those extraordinary spots on earth that make you feel like you’re in another world. The sites aren’t suitable for parties or loud groups.
It's about a 10 minute hike to the waterfall where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. In the evening, make a campfire and fall asleep under the stars listening to the river below.
The hike is steep and appropriate footwear is required. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls.
Be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and keep noise down after 10pm to enjoy the sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside
At the entrance to the campsites there is a barn community room with a charging station, cold water sink, fridge, coffee maker, cookware, and a port-a-potty. There are 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water.
This is a leave no trace site. Take all your trash with you when you leave. Bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty!
Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log.
The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms stands with fresh produce and organic meat close by.
Within a 5 miles radius is a general store, Scrumpy Ewe Cidery, Panther Creek Arts, Rooted Movement, the Sap Bush Country Store and Café, and Mustang Valley (a wild mustang sanctuary). Nearby hikes include Looking Glass Pond and Vroman's Nose, and others.

Lake Taghkanic is a great place for both summer and winter stays, with plenty of tent campsites as well as cabins and cottages, and a variety of activities to do year round. For winter folks, there's cross-country skiing and snowmobile trails, as well as ice skating and ice fishing areas, and plenty of fire pits to warm those chilly bones. For summer lovin', there are two beaches, so if someone kicks sand in your potato salad (accidentally, of course), you can just go to another beach and pretend like it never happened. The only sleeping quarters that are on the water are some of the cottages in the West End Cottage Area, so if you're planning on playing Beach Party Bingo, plan accordingly or be willing to walk a bit from your tent or cabin.

The camp was first built in 1905 by Dr. Goldsmith and family. The doctor and his family used the camp for summer vacations. During the winter the camp was rented out as winter hotel for loggers. Ice was harvested from the pond and stored in what is now one of the cabins.
When our family bought the place, the hotel was falling down and the buildings were in disrepair. Geoffrey, the family caretaker, has spent the last few years cleaning up the site. All that remains now of the hotel is the chimney while the ice house has become a cabin and has been improved and ready for visitors. We have a double futon, small wood stove and gas burners for a cozy indoor experience.
With 840 ft of pond frontage and 4.4 acres you can pitch a tent on the banks of the pond, up in the woods, or stay in the small cabin all are included in the cost of booking!
Swimming and boating in the pond is obligatory. Year round fishing has long been a tradition.
The spring fed pond is home to large and small mouth bass, northern pike, crappy, and blue gills. There are a number of ponds and state lands nearby. Accommodations include two outhouses and two docks so no waiting. There is a canoe and rowboat available and life jackets. The camp is car accessible Mid-May to the end of September.
There are summer cottages across the pond but not much happening on our side. Cedar Lodge, the nearest bar/restaurant, is about 5 minutes away and very popular all year round. The closest gas station and convenience store is about 20 minutes in the village of Parishville.

A great spot to come and camp high up on a hill.
Pitch a tent and enjoy the solitude of camping in the middle of a hay field, under a huge oak tree.
In the middle of farm country. From time to time you may smell a little cow smell or hear/see a tractor drive past.
However, there is nothing greater than the smell of fresh cut hay in the summer breeze. Deer graze in the fields surrounding the house. Any extra tents set up will be $60 per night per tent.

I was a little nervous because this was my first time “camping” on my own, but this was by far my best “camping” experience. Allison and Randy were amazing host and answered every question I had! I also loved riding around the farm with Allison and meeting all the cutie little farm animals! I even got lucky and mama cow had her baby while I was camping!! Nice secluded spot. The cabin was kept very nice, and the heater was a plus. We appreciated the hatchet for kindling even though we ordered wood. We used a mattress topper on the pullout bed which was great. The creek is beautiful and about a 10 minute walk up the creek to the waterfall which was awesome. There were people staying at that campsite by the waterfall. Not sure how private it would be if there are other campsites along the way, so I’m glad it was relatively empty this time. Really lovely, especially this time of year.

Another year another campout at Upper Shire. We love this place, the area and Joanna. This time we stayed at the new cabin. So cozy, specially this rainy windy weekend. We didn’t mind, made it more cozy. There’s a mini propane heater with a glass front that added ambiance and warmth to the cabin. Do I need to mention the outdoor showers again? My absolute favorite part, specially with fall brisk temperatures. Instant and endless hot water gives you time to enjoy the moment. The surrounding area has so many choices of top notch breakfast lunch and dinner. Hudson is 30 minutes with tons of restaurants and you’re right on the border of Massachusetts where there’s even more to do.
Can’t wait to go back.

Highly recommend The Shack!! Had such a wonderful weekend with friends and family tenting out on this beautiful piece of land. Inside the shack it had a nice loft bed, sink, shower, small fridge/freezer, heater, and a clean outdoor outhouse. It was so fun to be able to roam this large piece of land and watch the sunset. This is a really great place for those of you who want a more private place to camp out with tents or simply stay inside a quaint, beautiful cabin.

Great time - Bill (the host) is a great guy, very welcoming and shows great hospitality and respect for your space. The onsite port-a-potty was maybe the cleanest one I've been in. The cabins were nice with modern flooring and the beds were surprisingly cozy. He gave us all the wood we could burn for the bonfire and even had it started up by the time we got back from hiking Kaaterskill Falls (highly recommended hike). There are also trails to walk around the site which are nice for a stroll if you don't want to leave the site. Cornhole and Horseshoes to play around. no sink or electricity. 10/10.

Probably one of the best spots I've found for astrophotography. You have an open sky to do your sessions. Clear view of the Milky way. I was just unlucky with the weather during our stay.
Cabin is also well equipped. Heater, microwave, shower, utensils, water, shower essentials. You can book it as a staycation cabin and you are okay.

Our stay at the Starlight Cabin was wonderful - the cabin itself is great, tucked away in the woods (there was another couple staying at the other Wildflower cabin while we were here but our space felt completely private). The waterfall is truly a magical experience, there’s something so special about this space & being able to experience it with just us two was incredible. Definitely would stay again… plus Amy is a great host & very responsive!
