The camp was first built in 1905 by Dr. Goldsmith and family. The doctor and his family used the camp for summer vacations. During the winter the camp was rented out as winter hotel for loggers. Ice was harvested from the pond and stored in what is now one of the cabins. When our family bought the place, the hotel was falling down and the buildings were in disrepair. Geoffrey, the family caretaker, has spent the last few years cleaning up the site. All that remains now of the hotel is the chimney while the ice house and caretaker's cabin have been improved and are now ready for visitors. With 840 ft of pond frontage and 4.4 acres you can pitch a tent on the banks of the pond, up in the woods, or stay in one of the two cabins on site -- all are included in the cost of booking! Swimming and boating in the pond is obligatory. Year round fishing has long been a tradition.  The spring fed pond is home to large and small mouth bass, northern pike, crappy, and blue gills. There are a number of ponds and state lands nearby. Accommodations include two outhouses and two docks so no waiting. There is a canoe and rowboat available and life jackets. The camp is car accessible three seasons and snowshoe accessible in the winter.  There are summer cottages across the pond but not much happening on our side. Cedar Lodge, the nearest bar/restaurant, is about 5 minutes away and very popular all year round. The closest gas station and convenience store is about 20 minutes in the village of Parishville.

We loved our weekend at Sterling Pond. We drove to through the Adirondacks and climbed Mount Debar. A quiet peaceful place that doesn't disappoint.

Excellent retreat for the seasoned back country camper who wants a change and less work. Fully equipped (the mattress could use an upgrade) and private, awesome choice!

If you can be here, do it!!😊
This place is amazing. Quiet, and cozy, with lots of opportunities to enjoy the world around us. Beautiful view of the stars, multiple designated fire pits including an old fireplace hearth from the early 1900's. My kids had a gf rest time exploring in the woods surrounding the cabin, fishing and catching an impressive pike. So good fishing too!! This is my favorite hipcamp stop.

Private and unique
We really loved how much space and privacy this spot gives you, you basically have an entire side of the pind to yourself, 90% of the other camps are on the other side (noise travels from the camps including kids and construction but you get use to it). No frills and the cabin has everything you need to cook and be comfy during your stay. Very dog friendly with lots of activities from bocce ball to morning and evening paddling (weekend daytime paddling was a no-go due to jet ski traffic, less busy during the week). We cooked some of the best meals of our lives in the brick oven and enjoyed fires in the various fireplaces. The only store within reasonable distance is a gas station/convenience store, so make sure you grocery shop beforehand. Will definitely stay again!

Remote, rustic, and so peaceful!
This a beautiful remote camping site. We couldn't believe we got two cabins and docks for only $75 a night. The site is very rustic but has lots of amenities. It was perfect for my sister and I, and we will definitely stay again in the future!

Unwind, relax, and reset!
So we booked a get away in order to unplug, unwind, and reset as well as remove ourselves from the constant projects and go go go at home. When we arrived we were blown away by not only the beauty, but value for money! The property is not only HUGE, but it is the most unique and beautiful place I’ve ever been. The things they included in the stay and the details to help you find what you need are perfect! We plan on coming back in a couple weeks and bringing my son(7) for his birthday! We caught fish, cooked outside, rowed the boat out everyday, and enjoyed outdoor living to the maximum! My only complaint would be the flies that were absolutely relentless. We did end up purchasing bug spray with DEET that ended up mostly doing the trick for us! We can’t wait to come back! Thank you sterling pond for showing us a little slice of heaven and for an affordable new spot to reset our minds and souls!

Amazing Place
This place is amazing!! Everything you need for a comfortable stay, including fishing gear, firewood, life jackets, utensils and cookware. The views are breath taking, and kayaking on the pond was very enjoyable. My now fiancee ( who proposed to me here!) and I will be returning, and have family stay with us there. One of my new favorite places, and we live 4 hours away.

Nature Lover and Dog Paradise
My husband and I had the most wonderful stay on Sterling Pond with our two dogs. I can't say enough about the camp location! We filled our time with row boating, swimming, walking in the woods, and relaxing by the fire. We would definitely book again! The fireplace heats the cabin nicely at night, but if it went out we woke up chilly. I would bring heavier blankets next time and a couple more pillows.

A+ mix of rustic camp & amenities
The perfect mix of rustic camping and amenities! We stayed in the well-stocked, comfortable "ice House" cabin complete with a queen "pull out" bed and stovetop and rocking chair, air mattresses optional, activities in cabinet. Large shed full of activities for the whole family, fishing gear, life jackets for the rowboat, canoe, and even a paddleboat, bocce ball and more! Easy instructions (as long you read them!) and well kept grounds. There's a even a grill! The "pond" is more of a small lake, clean cool water and lots of fish to catch with lures and rods provided. Beautiful scenery, no close neighbors but sounds from vacation homes carry across the lake. Thousands of stars in the dusty sky and a moon mirrored lake at night are the perfect backdrop for evening campfire in the 100 yr old freestanding chimney. We picked wild rasberries and harvested chives for our coal-baked potatoes. Spring water provided for drinking and doing dishes. Nicest outhouses (2) I've ever seen, stocked with TP, wipes and sanitizer. Hummingbird feeder provided great entertainment from the porch. We couldn't have asked for a better time. Hope to be back next summer!

Fun with bocce and canoe
The cabin was very nice and clean. There was a 3-burner gas stove, plus lots of pots & pans, dishes, and utensils. No need to bring any of that! No sink, but a barrel of fresh water with a spigot. The pond is lovely and clear. Just for information (not criticism): The bed has a very thin, firm mattress. If you come in the summer, don't expect a quiet place. There are a lot of jet skis at those camps across the pond.

This site was so beautiful. We wished we had had a few more days to explore it. The boats were great, the cabin was very comfortable, and at night it was very quiet. There were a number of little amenities that made our stay that much more special such as the campfire accessories and the large inner tube. We would definitely come back to this site. Also, Scott our host was very accommodating and easy to talk to on the phone about our accommodations which we had to change on short notice due to weather problems

Quiet & beautiful right on the lake
This camp site was amazing! It was private on our side with a few houses on the other, just close enough to see the campfires but far enough to not worry about privacy. Ice House was beautiful with lots of little touches. There was even some bug spray in the corner cabinet and games to play with the kids. The caretaker's cabin was rustic, but the netting worked perfectly. We all had a great time, even during black fly season.

Columbus Day Weekend Stay
Our 3 day stay at the icehouse camp was wonderful, the owner thought of every little detail to make it a great stay. Though the camp doesn't have electricity it does have a very innovative lighting and stereo setup utilizing batteries. We did not know what we were up against so we brought everything and the kitchen sink, and none of it was needed. The owner provided linens, candles, snacks, potable water in a 5 gallon jug, the stove worked wonderfully, and the woodstove kept us quite warm. the caretaker provided pre-cut wood for our stay, and had three outdoor fire pits with wood already in the pits. The icehouse cabin was wonderful and appears to be winter proofed. The caretakers cabin is in great shape but appears to be in the process of replacing the chinking between the logs. This cabin would be great for anyone to stay in during the hot summer nights. The two outhouses were very clean and TP and Lye was provided. Our Aussie was able to roam the property freely, as far as I could tell we were the only one's on our side of the pond. My wife was hooked on fishing, in fact she caught a good sized bass. Like I said this was a wonderful stay and I highly recommend trying it.

Sterling Pond
Our family had a wonderful stay on Sterling Pond. It’s a beautiful property with lots to explore. While there are other houses dotted along the pond, we were pleasantly surprised to find the noise level was quite low & the activity on the water minimal. The cabin was cozy, clean & well maintained. The grounds outside were nicely cleared out, with many level spaces one could pitch a tent if desired. Conveniently, the property has multiple spots to have fires (which were well stocked with wood). There are also several spots to access the water & wild blueberries growing along the shore. We enjoyed the space’s natural beauty & it’s unique antique touches throughout the property.
