Homey adventure base!
The Overlook Lean-to is my favorite spot I have stayed over the course of a two-week road trip I have been on. The structure is beautiful, homey, and well designed - if a little cold in the late fall. Sheila was there to greet me on site when i arrived at the adventure base and was ready with recommendations and friendly conversation. The whole site is incredible and you can bike or hike on their trails.

Wonderful second stay
We had another amazing stay at Bob and Sheila’s!
This was our second time back - and we were super happy to stay in the lean-to. Their property was amazing in the fall foliage, and a great jump off point for the Adirondack High Peaks. Would highly recommend a stay here for anyone visiting the Adirondacks!!

Perfect Lean-To & Incredible Hosts
Bob and Sheila were fantastic hosts and incredibly kind people. They went above and beyond to make sure that our stay was as pleasant as possible. Not only was the lean-to a fantastic structure on a beautiful and isolated campground, it was extremely clean, close to many great hiking and road biking spots, and had absolutely everything we could need for the weekend. Even in the rain when we decided to skip our tents for the evening, we were totally sheltered by the lean-to, where we had a fantastic view and dry of the thunderstorm. Bob & Sheila even gave us suggestions for what adventures we should plan. My friend and I ended up hiking up Azure Mountain (absolutely breathtaking) and Bob planned out a 25 mile bike loops for us around Saranac Lake. They also have fantastic maple syrup and an adorable dog. There is just so much to love about this campground and the incredible hosts. Don't wait, book a stay with them today, you will not regret it!

The Magical Treehouse
If you are looking for a unique experience - this is it! The Magical Treehouse is located in the northern Adirondack Mountains close to premier interconnected canoe (and kayak) waters. My husband and I recently spent a snowy weekend in the Magical Treehouse and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The treehouse itself was cozy and warm and our daytime excursions memorable. Our hosts were attentive and knowledgeable. The cookhouse, fire ring and private indoor heated restroom are just steps away. It offers the perfect balance of luxury and ruggedness. Incredible campsite in the adironda
Sheila and Bobs place was so amazing! The property was beautiful, very well maintained, and filled with trails and hidden little spots that they’ve built up over the years. The location was right in the heart of the high peak wilderness, and near lots of incredible lakes and mountains. Sheila and Bob has great recommendations for us as well. Next time we’re in the Adirondacks we’ll be sure to stay here again!

Woodland Grove Camping
This is one of the most unique places to stay in the Adirondacks! Situated on 50 acres of diverse northern Adirondack land in Paul Smiths, the base is close to all of the great outdoor adventures the Adirondacks has to offer. The property itself is comprised of private campsites and purpose-built structures amongst its varying landscape while boasting a claimed 163.2 things to keep yourself, your friends, and your family occupied. I'd argue the number of things to do on the property is a lot more! A wonderfully illustrated map of the property is provided upon check-in; use it and make sure to take the time to explore - the whole place is a wonder.
My wife and I tent-camped for more than a week, opting to extend our stay longer than intended because we were enjoying our time so much, even though we had to endure frigid September nights. The hosts, Bob and Sheila, are simply the best. They're personable, knowledgeable, and innovative. We appreciated every minute of conversation with them. They checked in with us daily, often making excellent suggestions of where to hike, canoe, and track for moose.
We walked away from our stay rejuvenated and inspired by everything we experienced, while simultaneously planning when we could return next (which will be soon!). This base is truly a special place.
*Additionally, Bob's maple syrup is an absolute must-try. Having grown up around a bountiful amount of maple syrup in rural New England, I have never tasted anything quite as real as what is produced right on the property through traditional methods.

Overlook Lean-to
Hi. I stayed at the Overlook lean to at Adk Vacation Base. I had two friends with me. Everything exceeded our expectations. We met Bob, who showed us where our site was and gave us the rundown. He’s the man. Had no idea of all the extra amenities at the site.....I also didn’t look. Complementary maple syrup and pulley shower were the bees knees. Model of what a 5 star hipcamp should be. I’d come back fo sho.

Bob and Sheila were incredible hosts! Their lean-to is exactly as pictured, immaculately kept, and in an ideal setting for a peaceful getaway. They had everything we needed and more readily available to us. As an added bonus, their complementary maple syrup made right on the property is outstanding We bought two bottles on our way out. Our only regret is not allowing ourselves the time to write in the lean-to diary before we left. We will absolutely be returning to do so. Thank You, Bob and Sheila!

The Magical Treehouse
Amazing, enchanted getaway!
It was amazing! Every aspect of our treehouse stay was magical. We loved the treehouse itself with all of its charming features and attention to detail. The hosts were just wonderful, giving us privacy while also being available to chat and help as needed. They recommended some great ideas such as kayaking at Lake Meacham and Osgood River, Hiking the beautiful property following the signs and beautiful hand painted map. We also loved our own private cookhouse and fire pit. The whole property is lit with beautiful mason jars full of fairy lights and beautiful wicker encased string lights making for a magic feeling at night. We Also purchased several bottles of their delicious maple syrup for friends and family. Sheila also suggested that we stop at the Noon Mark Diner on our way home to pick up pies and they were Delish! We have recommended the Magical Treehouse to friends and family and we can’t wait to go back ourselves!!
The Magical Treehouse
The property is beautiful and the treehouse makes for a unique camping experience. It was not as private as we thought, though, as the treehouse is very close to the host's home/workshop space, and there were several other renters on the property as well. Also, be prepared for cold nights. We went in August and the temperature dropped to 40 degrees with no heat in the treehouse. There is a wood burning stove inside, but you can't use it.

Magical Experience
This place is amazing! So many people have written beautiful reviews about Sheila and Bob's Overlook, so I was a bit worried to arrive with too high expectations. Turns out I had nothing to worry about because the unique beauty and serenity of this place are difficult to capture in words. You have to see it... My family and I spent 5 magical and perfect days on Sheila and Bob's property: hiking and swimming during the day, looking for shooting stars at night, and watching the sun dawn from our warm sleeping bags in the lean-to. Sheila and Bob are wonderful and generous hosts. We definitely would have stayed longer if it had been possible. And are already dreaming of going back some day...

Something Special
Bob and Sheila are awesome, and have such a special thing going on at Adirondack Vacation Base. The campsite was beautiful and secluded, with an outhouse and running water nearby. The site is very large, with plenty of options for arranging our campsite how we wanted with multiple fire pit areas to choose from. We were greeted warmly and received so many great recommendations for nearby activities. Will definitely be coming back!
