I live off grid in one of the toughest climates in the US. I have about 15 acres of land bordered by 10,000 acres of wild forest preserve. Locals refer to this area as The Hill because of its unique weather anomalies. I share my experiences with campers in good weather but exist here all year. I am a Qualified NYS Woodland Guide. My actual license is pending the processing of fees and registration. This should be complete by August 1st of this year. I have over a half century of knowledge gained through a lifetime of hiking, exploring and living in this environment. My main focus is the land, lakes, ponds and streams in the lower Adirondack Park. I leave the high peaks, ice climbing and white water rafting to others that choose that speciality. My goal in guiding is not that of a just a follow me and listen guide. I strive to help those interested in learning about and enjoying the outdoors safely so that you take away real life skills you can use once we are done. I did search and resuce work as a volunteer for many years under DEC Forest Rangers. To help contain costs l will allow up to groups of people to participate at one time. Also. If you would like Amish made products, l can arrange that as well. There is a very conservative Amish community in the surrounding area. I consider these people my good friends and l am very familiar with their customs, traditions and lifestyles. Many people are now thinking of doing what we have done. If you so choose, we can schedule time to discuss any of the offgrid issues that may be unanswered in your mind. The original intent was to offer a peaceful place for you to escape for a time. This off-the-grid tiny house is nestled on a 23 acre parcel at the end of a quarter-mile dirt road. The property itself is secluded but is less than 2 miles from the heart of Saranac Lake's downtown. This property is bordered by the Saranac River, the backside of Baker Mountain and State Forest. The only other building on the property is our timberframe which we may or may not be at during the time of your visit. The property does have private trails up to the cliffs on the backside of Baker mtn however, the Saranac River is down a steep embankment so it does not make for a good place to launch a boat (several public boat launches nearby). The Mt Baker tiny house is a great basecamp for hiking the Saranac Lake 6-ers, paddling/boating along the Saranac Chain of lakes or Saranac River, Mountain Biking at Dewey, Pisgah or other nearby BETA trails. IMPORTANT DETAILS: This tiny cabin is completely off the grid: no electricity, heat or cooling. Queen sized bed - we provide the linens. The driveway is narrow - so nothing in tow. Drinking water is provided via jug and dispenser. The camp was first built in 1905 by Dr. Goldsmith and family. The doctor and his family used the camp for summer vacations. During the winter the camp was rented out as winter hotel for loggers. Ice was harvested from the pond and stored in what is now one of the cabins. When our family bought the place, the hotel was falling down and the buildings were in disrepair. Geoffrey, the family caretaker, has spent the last few years cleaning up the site. All that remains now of the hotel is the chimney while the ice house has become a cabin and has been improved and ready for visitors. We have a double futon, small wood stove and gas burners for a cozy indoor experience. With 840 ft of pond frontage and 4.4 acres you can pitch a tent on the banks of the pond, up in the woods, or stay in the small cabin all are included in the cost of booking! Swimming and boating in the pond is obligatory. Year round fishing has long been a tradition. The spring fed pond is home to large and small mouth bass, northern pike, crappy, and blue gills. There are a number of ponds and state lands nearby. Accommodations include two outhouses and two docks so no waiting. There is a canoe and rowboat available and life jackets. The camp is car accessible Mid-May to the end of September. There are summer cottages across the pond but not much happening on our side. Cedar Lodge, the nearest bar/restaurant, is about 5 minutes away and very popular all year round. The closest gas station and convenience store is about 20 minutes in the village of Parishville.

Weekend Trip to Runamuk Farm

We loved our stay in Cabin D! I was looking for a camping experience but wanted some privacy and peace and quiet that a camp ground can’t offer. This was the perfect experience!! Total peace and quiet with an awesome view. Plus it still offers the classic camping experience without the effort that is needed to prep for tent camping because the bed and shelter is prepped for you. I highly recommend these cabins and we hope to return soon

5 nights at Camp TedRock Adirondack Retreat

Ted's A frame site was the perfect stay for us. We had the best time relaxing and recharging out in the woods there. Ted has done an outstanding job making his property inviting and comfortable while allowing you to be totally off grid and remote. The A-Frame was clean and spacious and right next to the hangout area of the campsite with an outhouse close by! The use of his all-terrain cart was invaluable to be able to take food back to the car at night, as there is a short walk on trails to the site. Next time we'll pack a "daily meal" cooler to make this easier for ourselves instead of hauling the main one back and forth! When we arrived the site was prepped with our breakfast cooler add-on with fresh eggs, bacon, local syrup, and more! The firepit had a nice pre-built starter fire ready to light. Multiple lanterns in the cabin made our headlamps optional in the best way. We were the only ones there during the week and enjoyed the complete silence of the forest around us of his property. Despite that, we were still close enough to Lake George for a hike to the Pinnacle and anything we needed. Close by we were able to go kayaking on Garnet Lake (shout out to Ted for the recommendation!) and do some Loon watching. Overall a wonderful stay and this will absolutely be a place we come back to in the future. Ted clearly cares about his guests experience and puts love and effort into these sites.

This trip was a last minute change of plans and I'm so glad we came! Sweet little cabin with all the amenities you could need. There's a beautiful brook just down the hill with a path you can walk along and a bench to sit. Ted and Sue were great hosts...so friendly and helpful. Its in a great location. Runamuk Farm DID NOT disappoint! The views were wonderful, and Bonnie was an excellent host. The beds are real (as opposed to some older comments that they’re blow up mattresses) and quite comfortable. We felt like we were in a dream waking up under the perfectly placed bug net and sunrise. Every accommodation for camping is provided. Be mindful that you are renting in farm country so you might hear typical farm noises like cows, roosters, tractors, etc. If you’re a light sleeper, bring some earplugs (I don’t leave home without them) and you’ll sleep soundly! Don’t hesitate to book…just do it! Go! Right now!

Karl and his daughter were such gracious hosts! He welcomed me with a prepared fire which felt so sweet after a long ride. He is available for anything that you need, but not overbearing. Karl’s home is close to the serenity cabin, but I didn’t mind it. When driving there make sure to use the coordinates because the address Hipcamp offers is incorrect.

Camp TedRock was exactly what we were looking for! An off the grid experience with some amenities that make it comfortable but still have the primitive camping feel.Ted thought of all the little things that make this happen! Ted met us there and gave us the rundown on where to get supplies if we needed to in Warrensburg, had a great book with information, hiking suggestions, reading material, and games. Since there is no cell service at the site, we have played more games of cards, Yahtzee, and checkers than I think we ever had! It was great to not have a phone! Camp TedRock is a beautiful place to recharge from busy life. I would highly recommend purchasing the breakfast package with local syrup, bacon, eggs, pancake mix, and English muffins. This was delivered in a cooler and has all you need for a great pre-hike breakfast. We hiked the Sleeping Beauty trail, Snow Mountain, and the Rooster Comb. We plan on coming back and start on a couple of the 46ers. This has been one of the most relaxing and memorable trips we have ever had. We will be back!

We really enjoyed our stay here! While we only stayed for a night, it was evident that it was equipped with everything you would need. We stayed in the small cabin, which was a very short walk from the restrooms, had a great view of the sunset, AND had AC. Finally, we wanted to say a huge thank you to the incredibly kind staff who checked us in upon arrival and made us feel right at home. We will certainly come back someday to try out their tent site options!

Our cabin was in clean and equipped with a fan, heater, lighting, ect... The hosts are so gracious and care deeply for everyone's experiences on their property. With mini golf, roller skating, trails to walk, a river to swim in, and so much more - This location truly has it all. We couldn't have asked for a better stay and we can't wait to come back!

Weekend Trip to Sterling Pond

We had an incredible visit to the Pond! The place is truly magical, with a view of both the sunset and sunrise over the most peaceful pond. The property has many supplies (spices for cooking, boats, life jackets, tons of frying pans, towels, etc.). There are two cabins; the white one is insulated, and the red one is more rustic. Would recommend bringing an air mattress, as the futon is a bit small. The black flies/mosquitoes were not that bad in late July. We hope to visit again soon! :)

3 nights at Dickensen Farm: Cabins & Camping

Our stay was amazing. The cabin was cute cozy and private. The night sky was amazing out there. Kimberly was absolutely amazing. Was right there for any needs or questions and absolutely so kind. Would recommend to anyone wanting a trip to a nice spot.
