I live off grid in one of the toughest climates in the US. I have about 15 acres of land bordered by 10,000 acres of wild forest preserve. Locals refer to this area as The Hill because of its unique weather anomalies. I share my experiences with campers in good weather but exist here all year. I am a Qualified NYS Woodland Guide. My actual license is pending the processing of fees and registration. This should be complete by August 1st of this year. I have over a half century of knowledge gained through a lifetime of hiking, exploring and living in this environment. My main focus is the land, lakes, ponds and streams in the lower Adirondack Park. I leave the high peaks, ice climbing and white water rafting to others that choose that speciality. My goal in guiding is not that of a just a follow me and listen guide. I strive to help those interested in learning about and enjoying the outdoors safely so that you take away real life skills you can use once we are done. I did search and resuce work as a volunteer for many years under DEC Forest Rangers. To help contain costs l will allow up to groups of people to participate at one time. Also. If you would like Amish made products, l can arrange that as well. There is a very conservative Amish community in the surrounding area. I consider these people my good friends and l am very familiar with their customs, traditions and lifestyles. Many people are now thinking of doing what we have done. If you so choose, we can schedule time to discuss any of the offgrid issues that may be unanswered in your mind. The original intent was to offer a peaceful place for you to escape for a time. This off-the-grid tiny house is nestled on a 23 acre parcel at the end of a quarter-mile dirt road. The property itself is secluded but is less than 2 miles from the heart of Saranac Lake's downtown. This property is bordered by the Saranac River, the backside of Baker Mountain and State Forest. The only other building on the property is our timberframe which we may or may not be at during the time of your visit. The property does have private trails up to the cliffs on the backside of Baker mtn however, the Saranac River is down a steep embankment so it does not make for a good place to launch a boat (several public boat launches nearby). The Mt Baker tiny house is a great basecamp for hiking the Saranac Lake 6-ers, paddling/boating along the Saranac Chain of lakes or Saranac River, Mountain Biking at Dewey, Pisgah or other nearby BETA trails. IMPORTANT DETAILS: This tiny cabin is completely off the grid: no electricity, heat or cooling. Queen sized bed - we provide the linens. The driveway is narrow - so nothing in tow. Found this spot doing some last minute planning for the fourth of July. The property is secluded yet still a short drive into town. There is a cabin for sleeping and a separate cabin for cooking with ladies bathroom. The host has another building in progress for a shower! The lean-to was the perfect fit for our family. As experience car campers who no longer own any of our own gear, Bob and Sheila have outfitted the lean-to with all the essentials for a comfortable stay. The location is also excellent as a staging ground for a wide variety of adventures in Adirondack Park.

3 nights at Mt Baker Tiny Cabin

We would highly recommend this cabin for those that want a nice quiet get away thats still close to hiking trails and other activities. The cabin was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. A nice fire pit was available with chairs to relax after a day’s adventures. We hated to leave!

I loved camping on Bonnie's land. The Runamuck cabin that I stayed in was absolutely gorgeous. The view was beautiful, and it was so thoughtful how she provided freshwater, a cooking stove and fuel, coffee, and a little table with coffee cups and flatware. I felt safe and peaceful. I would absolutely stay here again.

Weekend Trip to Brookview Cabin

Wonderful experience, thanks to Ted and Sue. The cabin is outfitted with a lot of things that make staying there quite comfortable, like the gas heater, lights and solar battery. I do wish the front door had a lock, though.

We loved the cabin and the surrounding area. It really gave us the quiet break we needed. It is basic but has got everything you need. We would've just preferred to know before the booking how many mosquitoes there would be. It is impossible to stay outside, you're instantly surrounded by thousands of them.

1 night at Dickensen Farm: Cabins & Camping

I loved our stay from the moment we got there until the very end! We were greeted by two of Kim's dogs that guided us right to pocket corner cabin. Kim brought us up firewood and water to douse the campfire. The little cabin itself was nice, the door was secure so we could contain our pups at night, you can open the windows to listen to the night sounds and it had cute quirky decor with comfy mattresses. I absolutely loved interacting with the alpacas, chickens and even the turkey once I realized that he wasn't trying to kill me and just trying to say hello. LOL Little big guy is quite a character but then so are some of her roosters, especially Adolf. Overall there was plenty of space to move around and explore, Kim was the perfect host, available for any questions or help that we needed but not obtrusive. She invited us into her life allowing me to help feed the animals and I cannot wait to go back!

Weekend Trip to Mt Baker Tiny Cabin

We really enjoyed the comfortable off-grid experience offered by the Mt. Baker cabin. Despite the unseasonably cool temps, the hosts provided extra bedding and we had no trouble staying warm and comfy throughout our stay. The location was great with much to do within a 5 minute drive, and access to 30-1 hour hiking and sight-seeing destinations.
