I live off grid in one of the toughest climates in the US. I have about 15 acres of land bordered by 10,000 acres of wild forest preserve. Locals refer to this area as The Hill because of its unique weather anomalies. I share my experiences with campers in good weather but exist here all year. I am a Qualified NYS Woodland Guide. My actual license is pending the processing of fees and registration. This should be complete by August 1st of this year. I have over a half century of knowledge gained through a lifetime of hiking, exploring and living in this environment. My main focus is the land, lakes, ponds and streams in the lower Adirondack Park. I leave the high peaks, ice climbing and white water rafting to others that choose that speciality. My goal in guiding is not that of a just a follow me and listen guide. I strive to help those interested in learning about and enjoying the outdoors safely so that you take away real life skills you can use once we are done. I did search and resuce work as a volunteer for many years under DEC Forest Rangers. To help contain costs l will allow up to groups of people to participate at one time. Also. If you would like Amish made products, l can arrange that as well. There is a very conservative Amish community in the surrounding area. I consider these people my good friends and l am very familiar with their customs, traditions and lifestyles. Many people are now thinking of doing what we have done. If you so choose, we can schedule time to discuss any of the offgrid issues that may be unanswered in your mind. The original intent was to offer a peaceful place for you to escape for a time. This off-the-grid tiny house is nestled on a 23 acre parcel at the end of a quarter-mile dirt road. The property itself is secluded but is less than 2 miles from the heart of Saranac Lake's downtown. This property is bordered by the Saranac River, the backside of Baker Mountain and State Forest. The only other building on the property is our timberframe which we may or may not be at during the time of your visit. The property does have private trails up to the cliffs on the backside of Baker mtn however, the Saranac River is down a steep embankment so it does not make for a good place to launch a boat (several public boat launches nearby). The Mt Baker tiny house is a great basecamp for hiking the Saranac Lake 6-ers, paddling/boating along the Saranac Chain of lakes or Saranac River, Mountain Biking at Dewey, Pisgah or other nearby BETA trails. IMPORTANT DETAILS: This tiny cabin is completely off the grid: no electricity, heat or cooling. Queen sized bed - we provide the linens. The driveway is narrow - so nothing in tow. As far as we know, this land has been occupied since shortly after the civil war.  It is actually two farms, combined into one around 1900. The main farmhouse was built out of the logs they cleared in 1879, and there are old foundations of the other original farm houses/barns as well.  All over the property (now woods) there are piles of stones that the original inhabitants pulled from the fields. The second farm house was built in 1901. Most of the total 240 acres were cleared pasture land at that time.  During the twenties and thirties the property was owned by an industrious couple from the City that lovingly turned it into more of a "rustic retreat"; damming a pond, planting ornamentals and upgrading the buildings.  There have been many owners over the years, but we are proud to say it has been with us the longest.  Our family bought it in 1961 and we have been trying to be good stewards ever since.  Come and visit our little patch of wilderness!

5 nights at Camp TedRock Adirondack Retreat

Camp TedRock was exactly what we were looking for! An off the grid experience with some amenities that make it comfortable but still have the primitive camping feel.Ted thought of all the little things that make this happen! Ted met us there and gave us the rundown on where to get supplies if we needed to in Warrensburg, had a great book with information, hiking suggestions, reading material, and games. Since there is no cell service at the site, we have played more games of cards, Yahtzee, and checkers than I think we ever had! It was great to not have a phone! Camp TedRock is a beautiful place to recharge from busy life. I would highly recommend purchasing the breakfast package with local syrup, bacon, eggs, pancake mix, and English muffins. This was delivered in a cooler and has all you need for a great pre-hike breakfast. We hiked the Sleeping Beauty trail, Snow Mountain, and the Rooster Comb. We plan on coming back and start on a couple of the 46ers. This has been one of the most relaxing and memorable trips we have ever had. We will be back!

Weekend Trip to Reflections Homestead

The campsite is so cute, the fire pit was perfect, the cabin was also great! Very clean! I expected to see spiders inside the cabin and I don't think I even saw 1. Karl was very kind and welcoming. I even loved being greeted by the two goats as we were packing to leave. Wonderful experience!

Weekend Trip to Lazy River Cabins

You'd be hard pressed to find a better location for a quick get away, or an extended camp stay. The property is gorgeous and well maintained. Our cabin was in clean and equipped with a fan, heater, lighting, ect... The hosts are so gracious and care deeply for everyone's experiences on their property. With mini golf, roller skating, trails to walk, a river to swim in, and so much more - This location truly has it all. We couldn't have asked for a better stay and we can't wait to come back!

The views were spectacular and the space was really nice and cozy. Bonnie’s responsiveness and attention to detail was incredible. As many reviews have stated, it was a great spot a glamping-style romantic getaway. It is a fairly remote outdoor setting, so think of things you might take while camping and then check to see what she does and doesn’t provide.

Great mini cabin close to Lake Placid and Saranac. Secluded and quiet. Cabin was clean and suprisingly spacious. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely little spot that is comfortable and has an awesome little front yard / fire pit. Easy to get too as it’s right off a main road, but still feels tucked away just enough in the trees. I only wish I had more time to stay and enjoy! ☺️

Weekend Trip to Reflections Homestead

We had such a wonderful stay at Into the Wild! The cabin was cozy, peaceful, and exactly what we were looking for. Karl was an incredible host—so accommodating, helpful, and knowledgeable about the property and the area. He even took us on a walk around the trails, which made the experience so much more special. You can really tell he cares about his guests and wants them to enjoy everything the property has to offer. The setting is beautiful, quiet, and perfect for relaxing by the fire or exploring the woods. We absolutely loved our stay and can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to Mountaineer Family Camp @Massawepie

Camp Mountaineer is a very special place and it was great to be back as adults and seeing it come back to life! Cabin Esther is conveniently located just a few steps from the shower house and the washroom, so all your amenities are taken care of, even if there is no bathroom/kitchen inside the cabin. Even with the facilities nearby, the cabin still feels secluded and private. While we didn't have time to use them, the swimming area and boats are a great bonus. Will definitely take advantage of that next time we stay! Matt and his staff are very friendly and helpful.
