Conserved by the South Hero Land Trust, the historic Sawyer Bay Farm on the Island of South Hero was converted to grazing beef cattle. Our farm name is Health Hero Farm. We practice intensive planned grazing, moving the cattle daily to fresh grass. The herd may be near the campsites or completely out of sight, somewhere on our 180 acres. While we were building a house, we camped in the equipment shed during the summer and grew to value its convenience. Joan's enjoyment of cycling inspired her to designate the farm stand as a "bike stop" where visitors could buy a snack, get water, fix their bikes and use the unique islands amenity of a composing toilet in a converted ice fishing shack. South Hero is an agricultural island, as well as a summer tourist destination with numerous outdoor activities. It is also only a half-hour away from Burlington, and the drive is pleasurable. Pitch your tent, stow your gear under cover and explore all the islands have to offer. Yes, this is a summer destination, with great cycling, boating and swimming. We are a grass-fed beef operation, Health Hero Farm, on the island of South Hero. (You can read more about us on our farm website. ) Our farm is on the bike route around the islands, with access to many other vacation activities. Pitch your tent in the farmstead or in half of our empty equipment shed 30' x 60'. Or tool on down the farm road and be alone with the cattle and grass. In the shed, which is open on the north side, you have shelter from the rain, sun and wind. We have two campsites that can share a microwave, hot plate, refrigerator, camp sink and coffee maker in the barn. Lots of storage under roof for bikes and luggage. Our composting toilet (from Natures Head Composting Toilet) is a unique amenity -- installed in a retired ice-fishing shack (on skis). During the busy summer months, we may have a port-o-let (a.k.a. port-a-potty) with professional service. In the winter, the equipment shed not available. We rent out vehicle and boat storage in the equipment shed and cannot accommodate camping there. However, we have ample parking for RVs at any time of the year. And if you are an experienced snow camper, we have several locations to choose from. We have a farm stand where you can buy a few snacks. If you want to try our beef, we'll be happy to show you our freezers. We are 2 miles from a convenience store that packs an amazing array of products into a small space. We are close to a gem of a public beach, a winery (Snow Farm Vineyard), apple orchards, a public school playground, and miles of scenic driving. Local farmers markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays offer some of the best produce from these agricultural islands. We also own 1000' frontage on Lake Champlain, which you may enjoy. It is difficult to access, but affords privacy and serenity. We allow campfires on the gravel areas of the farm and on the beach, where you can gather dead wood. If you want to host a large group, you will need to reserve both campsites and rent a port-o-let (Vermont's lingo for porta-potty) if we don't already have one. Additional fees might apply. There is no RV electrical hookup; however, the equipment shed has electric outlets for your use. Additional fees apply for energy intensive appliances, such as heaters or air conditioners. There is no water hookup; however, we can fill your tanks with a hose from a potable water supply. Generators are not allowed, unless you are sufficiently distanced from other campers and our neighbors. Other accommodations may be available. Just ask! We have many resources, and want you to have a great visit.

I live off grid in one of the toughest climates in the US. I have about 15 acres of land bordered by 10,000 acres of wild forest preserve. Locals refer to this area as The Hill because of its unique weather anomalies. I share my experiences with campers in good weather but exist here all year. I am a Qualified NYS Woodland Guide. My actual license is pending the processing of fees and registration. This should be complete by August 1st of this year. I have over a half century of knowledge gained through a lifetime of hiking, exploring and living in this environment. My main focus is the land, lakes, ponds and streams in the lower Adirondack Park. I leave the high peaks, ice climbing and white water rafting to others that choose that speciality. My goal in guiding is not that of a just a follow me and listen guide. I strive to help those interested in learning about and enjoying the outdoors safely so that you take away real life skills you can use once we are done. I did search and resuce work as a volunteer for many years under DEC Forest Rangers. To help contain costs l will allow up to groups of people to participate at one time. Also. If you would like Amish made products, l can arrange that as well. There is a very conservative Amish community in the surrounding area. I consider these people my good friends and l am very familiar with their customs, traditions and lifestyles. Many people are now thinking of doing what we have done. If you so choose, we can schedule time to discuss any of the offgrid issues that may be unanswered in your mind. The original intent was to offer a peaceful place for you to escape for a time. Bridgeview Harbour Marina is a family owned and operated full service marina, event space, and camping area on the Adirondack shore of Lake Champlain. Established in 2020 the Marina provides seasonal and overnight slips and moorings to boaters, fisherman, and lake-goers, three camp sites, and an on-site cafe. Marina services are available May thru October each year, with other events and services available throughout the year. The marina is set on 33 acres along Lake Champlain and hosts ~4150 feet of lake-frontage, it is accessible via car, boat, or via the adjacent Amtrak rail line. Prior to becoming a marina in 1989, the property was home to a very large Iron Foundry, rail yard, and barge-loading operation known as Cedar Point. Cedar point, part of the larger Witherbee-Sherman Mining Company, operated in the late 19th and early 20th centuries smelting iron ore to be shipped throughout the world via the Lake Champlain Canal and Hudson River, and is credited with providing iron to some of America's leading projects at the time. Some remains of the sites industrious past can be observed throughout the property. From Father's Day to Labor Day, the Marina hosts the Port Henry Waterfront Farmers' Market every Friday between 5PM and 8PM. We had a wonderful stay at Tilden Hill Farm and site M was perfect for us. The campsite was peaceful, well maintained, and a great place to relax. Our family loved the goats! We also loved exploring the bike trails through the woods-they were a great way to experience the whole property. The little farm market was another favorite with fresh items and products from the farm that made our visit even more special. The farm has a welcoming atmosphere, and it’s clear that a lot of care goes into creating a great experience for guests. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet getaway with a little extra charm!

Weekend Trip to Tilden Hill Farm

We had a wonderful weekend at Tilden Hill Farm and would absolutely stay again. Our group booked both a full-hookup RV site and a tent site, while several friends booked nearby sites. The sites were well spaced, so no one felt crowded, but it was still easy for everyone to gather at our RV site for a campfire, s’mores, music, and plenty of laughter. The property is beautiful, peaceful, and clearly well cared for. The grounds and outbuildings were well maintained, and the bathrooms, showers, and laundry area were exceptionally clean. The host provided clear instructions that made everything easy to find and navigate. Check-in and checkout were simple and hassle-free, and communication was timely, helpful, and never intrusive. My wife and I were both raised on or around farms, so staying on a working farm with cattle, goats, and chickens was exactly our kind of getaway. We own goats ourselves, but apparently that does nothing to reduce the need to visit someone else’s goats. The market was another nice addition, with beef, pork, eggs, local honey, maple syrup, jams, locally brewed beer, and more. We were happy to support the farm directly. Beautiful surroundings, clean facilities, plenty of room, and a quiet place to relax with friends. We had a genuinely great stay and would gladly recommend Tilden Hill Farm.

Such a quiet and peaceful location. We enjoyed spending time on or near the lake (which is a very short walk along the trail that runs behind the RV sites.) The campground is also convenient to the ADK rail trail and the Wild Center, about 20-25 minutes away. Be mindful that these sites are in a wooded, Adirondack location. A screen house and insect repellent are a must - though it may be a tight squeeze for your travel trailer, vehicle, screen house and picnic table (which you are not allowed to move) all to fit into the site. Also, although not an issue for us, no drugs or alcohol are allowed.

This place is just delightful. The sites are spaced out and you get to have privacy. The mountain road is rocky and long, but if you drive the limit (10 MPH) it’s manageable and scenic. It’s obvious they’re trying to preserve the historic scout camp vibe and it’s great to see all the plaques still hanging in the former dining hall. It’s very rustic, but if you’re looking for somewhere peaceful to camp that’s near some high peaks, then this is where to be.

Well laid out campground. Sites are level and hookups are well placed. We had a great time visiting with family. Ken is quick to respond to questions and requests.

Weekend Trip to Bridgeview Harbour Marina

We loved our Power 1 spot for overnight camping right on Lake Champlain! Terrific view of the lake, in the middle of a working marina. Level spot where we could open our back doors to a beautiful water view. Electric plug in, water right there and the bath house with toilets and showers a 1 minute’s walk or less. We made a fire and enjoyed watching the sun set. Seemed to be a family owned/run marina—friendly people…definitely our kind of place and we will be back. Great camp feel; we are not drawn to the “resort RV” camp world—we love a real water view w/o the games, pool, etc. There was a little cafe that seemed nice but we didn’t partake—seemed perfect for morning coffee. We will definitely be back! 100% recommend!

1 night at Tilden Hill Farm

My wife and I are having a Hip Csmp travelers. Our airstream operates off grid so generally we are in remote locations. Ken‘s place is absolutely amazing. The property is in perfect condition and has all of the amenities. You can tell that Ken takes enormous pride and operating a high-quality facility. I would strongly recommend it to anyone and I can assure you our next time through the area will be back.

Weekend Trip to Saranac Lake River Camp

Cute spot right on the river! There is a road across the river so not totally private but not bothersome either. Site was clean, and we felt safe. Perfect stop off on our way through the mountains. Mike was a perfect host!

3 nights at Quiet Lake George Area Campground

Five stars for hipcampers. Kelly and Ryan are great hosts and available for any concern. The whole place is well maintained and cared for as evidenced by many flower gardens. Enjoyed the hike to the lookout. Stayed for 3 nights and would happily return again.

Very large site. Level pad. This is by far the best rv camp we've stayed at. It's fairly new and well groomed. I'm reluctant to gush how great it is because once it is well known it will be hard to get reservations. :)
