This off-the-grid tiny house is nestled on a 23 acre parcel at the end of a quarter-mile dirt road. The property itself is secluded but is less than 2 miles from the heart of Saranac Lake's downtown. This property is bordered by the Saranac River, the backside of Baker Mountain and State Forest. The only other building on the property is our timberframe which we may or may not be at during the time of your visit. The property does have private trails up to the cliffs on the backside of Baker mtn however, the Saranac River is down a steep embankment so it does not make for a good place to launch a boat (several public boat launches nearby). The Mt Baker tiny house is a great basecamp for hiking the Saranac Lake 6-ers, paddling/boating along the Saranac Chain of lakes or Saranac River, Mountain Biking at Dewey, Pisgah or other nearby BETA trails. IMPORTANT DETAILS: This tiny cabin is completely off the grid: no electricity, heat or cooling. Queen sized bed - we provide the linens. The driveway is narrow - so nothing in tow. It has been in my family since the early 30's. My grandfather carved a small campground out of the woods that he ran from the early 70's until the mid-80's. Some of my earliest and best childhood memories are from time I spent at the camp. In the mid-80's, my Uncle took Camp Forever over and ran it until around 2014. As a small private campground for over four decades, Camp Forever became a special place for many families from Quebec and from the local area. My family and I recently purchased Camp Forever from my uncle and have by rehabbing the property for the past several years. We built an Adirondack Style leanto here in 2019 and have been cleaning up the campground area for the past two years. While Camp Forever will never become a "campground" again, I am thrilled to once again be able to share this unique property with anyone seeking good times in nature with family and friends. Come see why this place has been so special and important to my family and many others since the 70's and why it will continue to be a place where people can camp forever. Learn more about this land: This is not a cabin...it's an extra large (14’x10’), Adirondack style leanto! Located ~80 yards from the parking spots on Bessie Lane, our leanto is completely private and nestled in a gorgeous Adirondack upland forest. The camp was first built in 1905 by Dr. Goldsmith and family. The doctor and his family used the camp for summer vacations. During the winter the camp was rented out as winter hotel for loggers. Ice was harvested from the pond and stored in what is now one of the cabins. When our family bought the place, the hotel was falling down and the buildings were in disrepair. Geoffrey, the family caretaker, has spent the last few years cleaning up the site. All that remains now of the hotel is the chimney while the ice house has become a cabin and has been improved and ready for visitors. We have a double futon, small wood stove and gas burners for a cozy indoor experience. With 840 ft of pond frontage and 4.4 acres you can pitch a tent on the banks of the pond, up in the woods, or stay in the small cabin all are included in the cost of booking! Swimming and boating in the pond is obligatory. Year round fishing has long been a tradition. The spring fed pond is home to large and small mouth bass, northern pike, crappy, and blue gills. There are a number of ponds and state lands nearby. Accommodations include two outhouses and two docks so no waiting. There is a canoe and rowboat available and life jackets. The camp is car accessible Mid-May to the end of September. There are summer cottages across the pond but not much happening on our side. Cedar Lodge, the nearest bar/restaurant, is about 5 minutes away and very popular all year round. The closest gas station and convenience store is about 20 minutes in the village of Parishville.

The cabin was private and cute, the beds were comfortable, and the outhouse was nice and clean. The farm is beautiful and has an incredible sunset. It is also a really great place for kids.

Weekend Trip to Magikal trails

Very funky trails filled with small trinkets. It was fun to explore the property! It’s clear that a lot of love has gone into the whole space!! The lean-to and outhouse were definitely DIY and felt sturdy but Les robust than I was expecting. The lean-to was cozy though and had a heavy curtain to keep out the majority of the bugs and also helped insulate the space a bit so we stayed warm overnight on a chilly fall evening. Sue was super accommodating and let us charge our phones on her screened-in porch. We would stay here again!

The first time I stayed here, I had mixed feelings. I had only camped a few times and was very spoiled by things like plumbing, TVs, internet, outlets etc. Looking back on those “ feelings” I realized that was me getting out of my comfort zone. I work from home, I’m inside all day everyday locked into several screens. This camp forces you to get outside, and leave the screens behind. Sleep in the beautifully decorated comfortable bedroom on a farm and feel like you are living inside the pages of Country Homes magazine. Wake up to the most incredible views, enjoy the delicious coffee provided and make it outside! Shower in the lush green landscape, with a view of the mountains. Cook a meal on a fire-pit, take a walk or go on a hike. Say hello to the cows. Lay a blanket in the grass and star gaze. Gift yourself this experience. After you do, you’ll want to return every year.
