For generations, the majestic waterfall has been revered for its spectacular beauty. It’s considered a sacred site central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka. Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, the waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. It’s one of those extraordinary spots on earth that make you feel like you’re in another world. The sites aren’t suitable for parties or loud groups. It's about a 10 minute hike to the waterfall where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. In the evening, make a campfire and fall asleep under the stars listening to the river below. The hike is steep and appropriate footwear is required. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls. Be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and keep noise down after 10pm to enjoy the sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside At the entrance to the campsites there is a barn community room with a charging station, cold water sink, fridge, coffee maker, cookware, and a port-a-potty. There are 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water. This is a leave no trace site. Take all your trash with you when you leave. Bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty! Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log. The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms stands with fresh produce and organic meat close by. Within a 5 miles radius is a general store, Scrumpy Ewe Cidery, Panther Creek Arts, Rooted Movement, the Sap Bush Country Store and Café, and Mustang Valley (a wild mustang sanctuary). Nearby hikes include Looking Glass Pond and Vroman's Nose, and others.

For summer lovin', there are two beaches, so if someone kicks sand in your potato salad (accidentally, of course), you can just go to another beach and pretend like it never happened. The only sleeping quarters that are on the water are some of the cottages in the West End Cottage Area, so if you're planning on playing Beach Party Bingo, plan accordingly or be willing to walk a bit from your tent or cabin.

The Little Witch Cottage is a rustic charming cottage from 1929 with timber framing and Catskill blue stone flooring. It sits in the middle of our yard about 200 feet from our more modern home. We have about 9 acres set back from the road. The cottage has a queen sized bed, dining table, and small kitchenette. The kitchenette has a mini fridge, dishes, toaster oven, french press for coffee and an induction stove top. There is basic cooking supplies such as pots and pans. We wired this vintage beauty to run on solar power and has an outhouse with a composting toilet, sink, and heated outdoor shower. Outside the cottage is a small garden, picnic table, fire pit, and chairs. Our land is mostly sloped fields that we are slowly turning into meadows full of native flowers and plants. There are mowed paths through the tall grass. This is perfect glamping spot, a mixture of comfort and nature. We are close to Catskill, NY and surrounded with a mix of beautiful nature and small town fun.

Lovely site above the river with trails leading down. Very private, though East camp is closer to neighbors. Not luxury camping but a very good campsite with most of what you need. We were there for the hottest days of the summer (temp hit 100) and the site was the coolest place to be, shady but still caught the breeze. The massive thunderstorms, and the tent and other tarped areas held up well. Overall a very positive experience despite less than ideal conditions.

3 nights at Waterfall Sanctuary & Quiet Retreat

This place was so perfect for what we were looking for, just rustic enough to have the stripped back stay we were looking for, with just enough comforts to make it truly feel like a vacation! The waterfall is even more beautiful than the photos show, and the short hike down to it is well worth it. We spent three days on the bank of the waterfall and swimming area just soaking it all in!! For future guests, there’s a short trail to get to your cabin that’s down some stone stairs, keep that in mind when packing. Loved being here! The land is lush and deeply respected. The tent setup is perfect and we enjoyed being near a babbling river! Jesse sang earth blessings to us every morning and evening-what a beautiful experience. Challenging walk down to tent site, but we’ll worth it! Will visit again!!

Weekend Trip to Big Indian Wilderness Paradise

This was a phenomenal property for the kids to explore. We had a great time and appreciate the hospitality of our hosts, who made sure everything was set up and good to go for our arrival. Lots of quick trips to shop and eat in the area helped to break up the few days. This was our second time at the site and it was just as beautiful as we had remembered (6 years later)!

Weekend Trip to High Peak Meadows

This is our second time camping here and we loved it again! The site is peaceful and private and always in great condition upon arrival. We spent our mornings exploring the stream, which our two year old loved! We also took advantage of the shady hammock to relax in the shade. I love that we always hear an abundance of frogs in the evening and an owl and other wildlife as we fall asleep. Mark is a communicative and generous host who clearly cares about the property and puts time and energy into its maintenance. I highly recommend this site!

Weekend Trip to Hucklebuck Railway Campsites

This was such an amazing campsite and we had the best time during our stay. Paula and Bill are so kind and welcoming and do such a good job to set up the campsite with everything you could need. The spot was so shady so even in the hot sun it was comfortable, total privacy, and a nice walk down to the swimming hole. Would definitely stay here again!

Weekend Trip to Luxury Camping at 'Higher Ground'

Very nice stay, perfect off grid relaxing overnight. The platform is solid and the bed is comfy. It's camping without having to lug in all your own gear. A short uphill hike with a few natural rock steps brings you past the privy then another 100 feet or so (still uphill) to the campsite. Well maintained with tiki torches and a fire pit. Small kitchen type space and a table round out the accommodations. No complaints.

This spot is beyond beautiful! Everything is so well organized and well maintained, the site was easy to use, and the pool and waterfall were stunning. We loved our time here and will definitely be coming back!

2 nights at Upper Shire Campsites Hudson Valley

Beautiful structure that has everything you really need for basics. Cozy even in the rain. Best outdoor shower I’ve ever had! We would love to return and highly recommend. One note, if you are looking to swim or paddle board in the pond on property keep looking. It’s nice for a short canoe and that’s about it.

Weekend Trip to TainoWoods Fairy Magical Sweet Land

Beautiful land in a relatively secluded part of the woods. We were near the highway but didn't hear a peep. The directions were clear and it felt like a cool communal campground at times. But we loved our little tent set up (we were in the Ocama site - a roomy tent set up and a sleep pad as well as a fire pit with a grill and cover). Chantel was very accommodating and welcoming.

We loved coming back to John and ACs after visiting years ago as a Tentrr site. One of my favorite spots ever! The site is huge and so well taken care of. We saw a lot of birds - so bring your binoculars, and bunnies etc. So great to have a few toys for my daughter and adults. Brought our hammock. We had everything we needed and the creek is so lovely. We’ll 100% be back.
